    I watched your speed flying the crack video at least 15 times today. the first 3x, i didn't believe, i hang glide. never heard of speed flying, went to your youtube site and watched your other videos and then to the chute manufacturer.
    I'm assuming you are young, you are obviously gifted, what you do is beyond the ability of not only the masses but even the smaller club of pilots, myself included.
    I agree that you are part of that reality at that moment, you, the rock, the chute, the vortex or lack there of are all 1, indistinguishable from each other.
    i'm guessing time of day and lack of sun in the flight path kept alternating currents at a minimum
    I believe you have to do what you do because it is not only the core of who you are but the circumstances of the universe coming together at this time in this place.
    change is also the very nature of life, I hope you are able to recognize when you are not in the zone, that sheer will or desire is not enough, nor the Need for adrenaline. Enjoy the rush, but if you find that life is incomplete for you without it , that the need for even more because you don't get that "feeling" anymore at the crack, ask yourself if the id is in control and you are now a passenger without a ticket, instead of a pilot, an atom, a particle of the "all".
    this may be the dad in me, but in this new age of internet world connection, always do this only for you and never for us, the audience.
    but damn, i loved watching it.
    paul

      @thesoundsmith 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes, be safe. But he won't, the need for the adrenaline is greater than the need to survive. It's not just the stupid that Darwin themselves out of existence, it can be the inappropriately confident. When a sudden gust of wind changes your trajectory beyond your ability to correct -but I'm an old fart, WTF do I know 🙃

    • @Daveandbillie
      @Daveandbillie 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Dovy Please stay safe is an acknowledgment that I see you and I want you around so please keep your skill level and abilities in mind when doing these things. My friend once said “I’m not afraid of dying, I’m afraid of not living.” That resonated with me and the meaning continues to evolve as the years go by. People who live in fear will never understand this. And they will never understand why people do these types of “risky” activities. On the flip side people who do these types of activities will never understand how someone can live in a bubble, sit in a cubicle for 40 years, and die of a heart attack while sitting on the couch eating a sandwich. That, to me, is insane. What’s the point in living if you are always in fear? Remember, people pushing boundaries is how the world advances. Granted, the guy in this video is pushing the boundaries which is why it’s so sensational. But he didn’t just wake up that morning, buy a wing, and fly down the mountain. It takes years and tons of practice to get to that level of skill. The trick is to not get complacent. It’s the same with any extreme sport. For example top fuel drag racing. They push the boundaries every weekend and the margin of error is very small. One slip up can cost a life. Yet they strap themselves to 12,000 plus horsepower land based airplanes and go a 1/4 mile in 3 seconds. Try telling those drivers they should stop because it’s dangerous. Or nascar, xgames, downhill skiing, etc.

      music makes me think he kinda trusts the universe and the stunt is almost like a drug trip, like even though he's skilled his mindset is still one of trust as he approaches the crack. he trusts his mind and body to perform and he trusts his equipment and he trusts that he knows the wind and that a gust won't slam him into the wall. for myself i think i prefer a more sober state of mind, i prefer not to trust the universe. but maybe if i experienced the rush of flight like this i might give in to the urge to trust the universe, because trusting the universe would let me keep seeking out that rush.

    My kinda flying!!! Been hang gliding and parasailing for over forty years and this is the most insane flying I've ever witnessed - and I'm into aerobatics, big time. I did my first wing-over at age 17 and my first loop the next year. I've logged well over 3K hours in hang gliders and nearly a thousand in parasails. Parasailing came several years later and is my preferred flight mode, due to the lightweight-ness (~20-25lbs) of the entire apparatus vs a hang glider weighing in at 60+lbs, especially now that I use a wheelchair to get around and can no longer pick a hang glider up. In ther 70s the catch phrase for "have a good flight" in hang gliding circles was "sky out!"
