    Nice Video! I just got through watching your Bahama series. I sure like your transparency about your skill and when you have made a mistake. Especially your admonition to be honest with your abilities and ALWAYS follow the check list. Your on my list of subscribed you tubers. I am going to fly this route on my sim tonight. Keep up the great work.

      Thanks Barry. That was quite an adventure for the wife and I. We had so many 'learning experiences' going to the Bahamas and coming back its hard to count them all. But all of them had a lasting impact and have made me a better pilot as a result. Thanks for watching. Cheers-Ren

    Writing down a IFR Clearance in a busy busy Airport is very highly to listen to every word that's said and putting it all in while burning your fuel is very challenging and especially when I'm looking forward to getting my IFR Rating one day and I'm always watching your channel Red Baron

    Great entertainment and education! When you were getting established on the ils, it reminded me of a lesson I had 2 days ago. I was talking to approach and was given a squawk code. I’m barreling down to the airport and for about 2 mins he says nothing. I hit my mic again to make sure he has me and then he says standby. Now worried I might bust the class d, I start to turn away from the airport. Literally a second after I start turning he blurts N95314, cleared into the bravo, enter right downwind for runway 33 at 2500. I replied with a bunch of um’s and uh’s as I am trying to fly the plane while reading back his instructions. Normally I am pretty comfortable on the radios but sometimes they catch at just the wrong time and you get brain lock lol.

    My only other observation...I would've called BUR in-sight over SMO for the visual to 8. BUR has a lot of inbound traffic, not to mention SoCal is very busy with traffic, so I would've just cut the corner (and avoided the run-around from SoCal). I get that you were probably practicing instrument procedures... :)

      True enough but I like practicing the IFR approaches so I'm ready for the rare cloudy/rainy day in LA. Cheers-Ren

    Great video Steve, I notice you fly a lot of victor routes and radials off VORs, not sure if you file this way, if that is what they are giving you or maybe it's just the airspace you are in. I use Foreflight, and one time a controller was giving me a reroute based on VORs even though I had filed differently. He then came on and said, "what a minute, your flying a new Cirrus are you /G?" I said yes, and more. He told me my equipment list was wrong on my flight plan and cleared me direct. FF had filled out the list for me and screwed it up. I sent Foreflight an email when I got back, they fixed it and got back to me within an hour.

    • @TheRenBaron
      @TheRenBaron  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When I'm looking to fly IFR routes (which is most of the time) I typically use the route advisor function in FF which I find to be a huge resource and time saver. Having said that because I fly here in So Cal more often than not ATC will amend whatever I've filed. What I've come to find is that is something more specific to the So Cal area than it is in lots of other places around the country. The 'slant/golf' designation tells the ATC folks that your plane is equipped to deal with a bigger slice of the IFR route structure.

    Really enjoying the show. Congrats on 4000. I only have 3975 to go : ). You know Ed would give me hell for the velcro on the MFD with the CAP'S pin. He totally cancelled me on that idea.

      Well you remind Ed that it was one of his Cirrus Sales buddies in OKC who attached that pin there in the first place. As a guy who can misplace his glasses on my own nose I thought it was a genius idea and when I took delivery of the plane I specifically told the Cirrus rep in Knoxville to leave it right there! Great videos! As a wanna be Pilot,, I find them very informative. I have a suggestion: if it's not too disruptive of the pacing, could you include Close-UP's of the relevant instrument at the appropriate times? It would certainly improve the context of the NAV and Coms instructions. Coms is always hard to understand between all the fast mumbling and the radio noise.

    • @TheRenBaron
      @TheRenBaron  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I thought there were quite a few closeups of the PFD and MFD in most of the videos I've posted. Give me some examples of exactly what you are looking to see and I'll see if I can do a better job on the editing. Cheers-Ren

    • @pcgenie-la

      For example, When you set the NAV and Coms frequencies and when you change the mode of the MFD map modes. It's the pairing of the ATC instructions and your actions that are particularly helpful.

    @Ren Baron found a couple of other goo ones if ur interested. This first one shows more of the interior & the 3 row reclining seats. Many ppl think the 62 only has 2 rows of seats, also this goes into the extra comforts u get plus a more true to life performance & economics of the 62. Here’s the 1st one th-cam.com/video/KbJFNprYv9I/w-d-xo.html This 2nd one is a fun on when they take the more basic model n fly it to the states “which is where they are all ending up leaving none available for the Europeans lol” this is the 1st episode of the series which after watching these vids will tell you all u will ever need to know about the 62 so u will know which u prefer as the 62 isnt that well known about as they r not advertising it too much due to they can’t make them fast enough at the moment, here’s the 1st episode th-cam.com/video/3RvgHLvIG88/w-d-xo.html hope u enjoy n after u have watched them if u wish, let me know what u think & if u will consider the 62 with the extras u get n the 3rd row n fadec Thx Ren, will really respect ur opinion. If upon your clearance request you let Clx Delivery know you had the CSTP1 tec route onboard, I wonder if they would have given you the shorthand clearance (i.e. "heading xyz, vectors to SLI, then the CSTP1"). Steve, what has been your experience on this? Mine has been 50/50, with some airports (e.g. KSBA) much better than others. Thx. Wayne

    Great video! I do have a question about your EFB- Do you prefer the use of ForeFlight over Garmin Pilot? I have read that Cirrus recommends you using Garmin Pilot (maybe that is incorrect), but I think I see that you were using ForeFlight? Are there any distinct advantages between the two? Thanks!

    • @TheRenBaron

      I primarily use Foreflight which I have used since I started flying 4 years ago and I find it to be an absolutely invaluable tool. I also used Garmin Pilot for a bit most to try and update my nav databases wirelessly. But to be honest that has always been a hit or miss proposition for me. So I've given up on Garmin Pioot and update the databases by SD card. Thanks for posting. Cheers-Ren

    That tower enroute clearance is a complicated. IMO. I’m sitting in my G6 trying to input it on a flight plan. I don’t understand how to do the radials and V23 when imputed. I tried on Garmin pilot but it doesn’t seem like foreflight where you enter the SMO 125 and 317 radials. I’ve googled looking for help but nothing yet. I want to fly to LA and KSMO next week but I need to understand these clearances before then. Any ideas?
