Your video inspired me to create a wind up mechanism in 3D print, with a plastic spring. Limiting the speed of the release of the energy is a real challenge. TH-cam has plenty of resources on speed governors, but I couldn't find another example of the rocker speed governor shown here. At first I thought the teeth were supposed to be shaped like regular gear teeth, but this didn't give a good result. Then I tried to build an escapement wheel with triangular teeth and that worked fine. The model now releases its energy over 8 seconds.
Dear Mr Ludic: This was an excellent video! It is good that you do not only discuss electronics topics, but mechanical topics as well. I would like to make a suggestion: Can you do a video discussing how "exhaust pipe smoke" is generated in toy cars and toy trucks made in the 1960s and 1970s?
An excellent explanation and breakdown of the internal mechanism and energy transfer in wind up toys. I bought a secondhand toy tractor book for my child and the toy does not work. I could buy a replacement but that would be the easy way. I will use this video to try to fix it. Thank you so much! Subbed for more content.
That's the reason I found this video too! I found a lovely doll earlier today at a thrift store, but it's music box is broken. This video has helped me realize that the issue is probably in the spring, which hopefully won't be too hard to fix.
So I actually kinda got obsessed with wind up music boxes over the Summer. The mechanism in music boxes that limits the uncoiling of the drive-spring is actually pretty interesting, and would make a wonderful mechanism for a clock-work generator. The mechanism relies entirely on air pressure to limit the mechanism, and it's not hard to add magnets to the spinner. Anyway... that's kind of the idea. Most the designs I've come up with lend themselves to AC, but I'm going to start working on a homopolar version. Especially since high capacitance capacitors are relatively cheap to get ahold of, and homopolar generators require less mechanisms for rectification.
Winding up a spring by holding the center between thumb and indexfinger and pulling on the end with your other hand is the perfect way to get 6 perfectly parralel cuts on your thumb that are nigh impossible to stitch up.. Yes, I was a stupid kid.
Question, i've been wanting to fix the wind up motors on my Zoids one of the issues i found is that on some of the bipedal ones, the wind up motor works fine while i'm holding the model in the air but when i place it down on a surface the motor has no strenght to move the legs, any idea how to fix this?
I don't know if you'll read this, but I want to know can we use this mechanism to generate electricity ? My hypothesis is it'd allowed much lower kinetic energy we spend to generate more electricity than we would generally use in kinetic generator.

I would love to see more videos like this where you breakdown the mechanical functions of toys

This was great and exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks for making this video!
omg thanks! now i finally understand how this works. i am fascinated by clockwork devices.

I’m trying to create a working wind up Hunter from YuGiOh. This helps alot

Thanks Sir for taking all the efforts to explain it to us
Exactly what I was looking for in an explanation video, thank you! 😊

"It just works"
Nice.
lol

Bro- 😭😭😭
This was so helpful!
Thank you for clear explanation!
Very well explained up to but not including the governor mechanism. How is the energy of the spring transferred to the governor?
Thank you for this video!
Great explanation, thank you!
Glad you like it!

Amazing video. Thank you so much! Subscribed!

Excellent video! You are a great teacher. Thank you!
So interesting! Really informative video
Does anyone know how to DIY create or buy the white plastic piece at 7:21? Thanks!
You could probably 3D print it, your local library might have a 3D printer you can use
Are there any wind up mechanisms that dont use a spring coil? do spring coils eventually stop being effective in a toy/machine?
How much energy it store ?
If we made a bigger model for 60 kg force
How many times bigger it is ?
Look at spring balancers.
I'm trying to figure out how to put a music box in a doll.
how do you reduce the unwinding of the coil spring?
I'm finding the best way to learn about mechanical engineering is through toys.
Where could I buy these small wind up mechanisms?
why sometimes it doesn t turn anymore? what should we do or replace?

If we make a 10 times bigger model of this
How much energy in joules required for making its working ???
If it is bigger u need more power to turn it which is more harder to do
Awesome! Thanks!

What its energy in joules
Spring energy restore how many joules
What is🚕 energy⚡ store by this setu??
Could you scale it up to say 3ft x 3ft to make a wind up battery charger or something?
How much joules of energy it store in toys torsion spring
This dog required how many joules of energy ??
How we can make big engin like this ??
u forgot clocks too
Anyone who made big model of it so we attached it with dynamo and charged our cellphone with our power

Red key winding up toy
If we make a 10x strong model then how much power it gives
Please do the math so whole globe get rid of energy crisis ?
👍👍👍
Cool
Thank you, very clear. :)
👍👍👍👍👍
Very good Video, like always. But please clean your Hands if You make This type of camera closeups (zoom)
Are you Italian?
