I dove with mantas on Manihi at a cleaning station. There were up to 8 at a time. It was amazing. I shot several vids of them, but never got the furling of the cephalic lobes. Well done! Thank you so much for sharing.

I was diving under the Blue Heron Bridge in Florida with my brother and dad when we saw a school of around 20-25 spotted eagle rays soar by. It was amazing. They are so graceful.

I love how they just glide along so peacefully.

Yes, scientists decided that some of them are a 2nd species, Manta alfredi, most commonly known as the "reef" manta ray. It's a little smaller than the giant manta ray, Manta birostris, and can be distinguished by different markings. I have filmed one in Fiji (you can see a very short clip of it in my video "Dakuwaqa's Garden"), but the ones I have seen in Thailand and Burma all appear to have been giant mantas.

I hate it when animals die over stupid superstitious medicines.

I have never heard of one biting. A mobulla or manta is more likely to give you a slap with its "wing" if it is distressed.

Curious question… are any rays able to regrow their tail? Say it got cut off by a boat or bit off?

Are eagle rays in this part of the world equipped with venomous spines? The ones I filmed in Hawaii and Belize don't carry barbs of any kind.
