I understand your frustration. I also hate job interview politics. There is only one real "rule": make a good impression! You don't have to be enthusiastic about the job itself but they want you to show you want to do the job for longer and won't mess up because of psycholigical illness or whatever. How about just telling them your name and saying you have so many years job experience in these companies x, y, z and now you want to work for them ?
It means “what value can you bring to this company” they don’t really care about anything else in that question. They’ll get to know you as a person throughout the interview, no need to talk about your hobbies.
It's best if you start of introducing yourself even if they already know your name and thanking them for the opportunity to be interviewed then you describe yourself and why you consider yourself a perfect candidate skills etc it's more professional and you will sound more intelligent compared to this video.
I watched a different video that said not to state your name because it sounds kind of robotic. I mean unless you have a hard to pronounce name then it might be good I guess so the interviewer isn't saying it wrong if they do say your name in interview
It's an annoying question but it's one way to get an idea if what's on the resumé is true or was basically made up by the interviewee. If they don't know what's on their own resumé, there's a good chance that they made it up.

Honestly, interviews are 80% confidence. If you come across as though you belong, and deserve the job, more often than not you'll be shortlisted / get the job. If you're not [or feel you're not] qualified or experienced enough, it'll show, so again, see above.

Has anyone ever done any studies to see if doing through "interviews" has any greater success at choosing suitable candidates than other methods, such as picking numbers out of hat or some other method? I've found interviews only benefit those who lie the easiest. Who might start out working out well, but it catches up to them eventually.
People lie. It’s better to give people trials without pay for a couple of days or a week and you will see how serious they are with wanting to keep the job or not. If they are serious they will make every effort to be on time, have things done efficiently and be ready to work. The not so serious ones will turn up late, not show up at all, or not work efficiently. My job spent money hiring 3 people in one week, paid for all of their medicals, police checks etc and two of them did not show up on the first day. The third one showed up for a couple of days, was never on time, then never came back. It would save the company time and money if they did trials. People are good at talking but not good at working.
Honestly in my most recent interview, I got the job cause I got irrelevant, but then I did luck out with this office. To encapsulate our office culture: my boss got back from vacation yesterday and I shot him with a super soaker to welcome him back throughout the day
I'm (hopefully) going to be interviewing soon for the first time in 11 years, so I'm studying up on what it's like now since it changes so much! 2-3 professional facts. and then end off with 1 skillset you think is the best that you have.
