  • Talk given by Dr. Steven Gottlieb on March 2, 2024.
Steven Gottlieb works as a pediatrician at the Yakima Valley Farm Workers Clinic, and speaks Spanish with many of his clients. He received his master’s degree in public health from UCLA and his M.D. from Harvard Medical School. He served as a Medical Officer for the National Health Service Corps, and as a physician in Puerto Rico for 11 years, where he assisted with a
variety of programs, including School Health, Pregnant Adolescents, an albinism research study, and the Special Olympics. He has undertaken several medical missions to Panama and Honduras, and was honored by the Yakima Herald-Republic with their “Unsung Hero” community service
    award.
Dr. Gottlieb spent 11 years in Puerto Rico as a Bahá'í pioneer; has undertaken multiple travel teaching trips to Central and South America; has served on several Local Spiritual Assemblies; and has hosted many three-day intensive children’s retreats at his home in Yakima, WA. He is co-
editor of Once to Every Man and Nation: Stories about Becoming a Bahá'í (George Ronald Pub: 1985); has taught numerous classes for children, youth and adults; and is currently working on a book of Bible themes.
He and his wife organized youth service projects to the Ngabe-Bugle Indian homeland in northwestern Panama, and helped establish a solar-powered computer lab at the middle/high school on the reservation, a rural pilot project funded by Microsoft Panama. Hobbies and interests include pickleball, photography, nutrition science, and Montessori education.

I really liked how he opened with describing the time he grew up in. I also remember those times. No cell phones, no TH-cam, no color TV, rotary dial phones that hung on the wall, no credit cards, no 4K movies or even DVD for that case, NO INTERNET. Sometimes, I don't even know how we survived. Me & my brothers would LITERALLY go outside & sword fight with sticks, & try to skip rocks at the pond at the park. That's right, no TikTok. Those were the good old days, sometimes.

Thank you Steven for sharing your story. To read more stories like this one, I'm thankful to have a copy of your book, "Once to Every Man & Nation: Stories about Becoming a Baha'i". It's a pleasure to hear your story - it never gets old 🙂. Just a footnote for the introduction: the pronunciation of Yakima is Ya- kim- ah not Yakeemah.

The Bahai Faith is certainly obscure and not many people know of it for it's only 180 years old. But it'll get there when the whole world will know and embrace the message of Oneness
