Tip from a local: if you don’t care for the boardwalk/touristy stuff, head up to Zuma beach and park along the pch (it’s free). There isn’t a lot to do, but if you just want a relaxing beach day with the kids, it’s better than Venice. Neptune’s Net and Paradise Cove Cafe are fun places to eat, or you can buy stuff from the grocery store and picnic on the beach.

Tips from a local: They really have significantly remedied the homeless issue in recent times (early 2022). Also, please walk Abbott Kinney Boulevard, just inland from the beach. Great small shops, coffee, and places to eat. Please also walk the Venice canals, day or night, very close to Venice beach. Very beautiful architectural homes located along canals, for which Venice gets its name!

Good to know! I spent some time in Venice like a decade ago and visited it back in 2016, and the homeless situation was already pretty hectic. And it got worse from what I heard.

We were there just a couple of weeks ago during my daughter's school break. Having grown up in L.A. I knew it would be packed on a Saturday but it was beyond insane. There used to be a lot more canals in the first years of the 1900s but then oil was discovered and most of the canals were torn out although the oil boom did not last long even though you can still see some oil rigs here and there.

I went to Venice beach today, on a Monday & the weather was very nice! 70 degrees & sunny as heck! The beach itself is HUGE!! I was surprised by that, there wasn’t much homeless people there. The view was beautiful, some good souvenirs stores, skate park, trail to skate or ride your bike. I actually enjoyed it a lot personally for my first time visiting. The only thing sucks is finding parking

You won’t really need a wetsuit in the summer and early fall months. That cold water won’t seem too bad after you get your whole body wet, especially on hot days. The ocean water is cold because the California Current runs from north to south starting in Alaska, whereas the current on the East Coast is a warm current that flows from south to north starting in the tropics. A big plus of the cold water is that it keeps California’s temperatures along the coast relatively mild with low humidity which is known as a “Mediterranean climate.”

I have been going since 1975! There is a lot of talent at this beach, magicians, cedics, artists, dancers!! You name it! It is fun, refreshing, great excercise, one tip, leave after 6:00 pm!
Thrn the homeless, & other transients come out! It is their beach then!

My 'don't' tip: just don't go there. Its not my style, I don't like all the hucksters, buskers, homeless, and others who get in my face all the time, and most of the shops are simply selling trinkets to tourists. Plenty of other beaches in L.A. are where you can have a quiet, calm, relaxing day in the sun. I'll take out-of-town relatives and friends there for the 'show' (as I call it), but that's it.

Lol, there's really nothing you can't do at Venice beach except don't drop your guard because it's an open air mental hospital and tourist destination. The Santa Monica section is nicer than the Venice beach section. If you take the bike trail all the way north, you end up by a parking lot and a Lifeguard tower that has the perfect spot to watch the sunset.

Oh yeah.....tons of homeless. Don't mess with them and those 'sellers' can be bad also. Parking is a pain also. In my opinion eat off the waterfront. Go a couple of streets over to the main drag because the food is ridiculously bad. Other than enjoy the show. Lots of dudes in g-string thongs rollerblading.....it's a freak show for sure

Florida beaches are OK but it's much more than just Venice beach. California has the most beautiful coastline in the world.

Don’t except it to be as the 1950s to 1980s : the bushy blonde surfer dudes - gone. Beautiful long legged women in bikinis or on roller skates - gone. Handsome tall muscle men - nope.
Honestly, as a 4th generation Cali, it’s become quite a depressing sh!t hole that reeks of vomit n piss. It’s not a family fun place. Peace.

My one question is about then his speeches can I bring my own skateboard and Venice Beach if I were to drive from Lubbock Texas clear across the country to Venice Beach California You know I never been to California so I am a skater boy and I volunteer at a local roller 😊rink you know Venice Beach invented rollerskating in the early 1990s including the early 2000’s Whenever nickelodeon rocket power filmed in Venice Beach 90s Nickelodeon remember that yes I actually volunteered at a roller rink One other thing about Venice Beach is don’t film in front of an angry Skate mom yes I’ve seen those TH-cam videos about kids skateboards been banned by angry Skate moms Including cops on Venice Beach saying he busted his noggin are you from the county or something do you know when you take it vantage of other skaters or street performers on Venice Beach that 90s slang talk plus the real fight club Tyler durnan some of the stuff they do can lead to an actual fight club with Tyler durnan that transfers to the LAPD Here in Lubbock it’s The Lubbock Police Department then they usually put on the 11 o’clock news yes you’ve seen those stories online about angry skate moms including angry skate cops burning TH-cam with skateboards it’s not a joke so one other thing is don’t film in when you’re on Venice Beach 🏖 If you have a mom and dad with you like a guardianship go with them And yes I understand the street performer scam stuff Lubbock Texas is more like round one but there is no dress code it’s like a free-for-all in Lubbock Texas if my friend Drew baker Were there he would tell you because he’s too On adventures Skate Park that had to shut down 50 years at a retirement home it’s the skate Ranch opened in 1967 The day modern Disco die
