FYI Baritone Geoff Shaw seen at 1:13 passed away in October 2019 at the age of 92. I am related to him. Thankyou for having this video on here.
My favourite Christmas song.
Mine too. I have a big tract of land with a ton of hollies on it. Every time I go there in the winter I think of this song.
Indeed this is one of my favorite carols.
Hard to believe all these boys are now in their late 40s/early 50s.
Fantastic! My gosh..I wish I could sing...but since I can't grateful others can!
I can sing like that
How marvelous. And the sound quality for an old TV broadcast is very good, too. Really revealing moment at 5:33 during the interview of the chorister. He says that he'll be going home on 'the 25th evening' and only afterwards references it as Christmas Day. The mind of a cathedral chorister at work . . .
Russell Harty: "What is your Christmas schedule?"
Peter Auty: "I'm flying to the North Pole with a snowman while singing about how we're walking in the air!"
A beautiful carol
I love this song
A truly great Carol! Godspeed!
Très beau chant, merci!!!
FANTASTIC !!!
Merry Christmas 2019!😁⛪⛄🎁🎄🎅🎍🎇🗽💯

One of my favorites! Fantastic!
beautiful!
Stunning!! Bravo!!❤️❤️❤️❤️🌸🌸🌸🌸
You have forgotten what this really means ....about the lean times of winter, the gift of fire, but most of all the birth of the Sun.

LEt forrain nations of their language boast,
What fine varietie each tongue affords:
I like our language, as our men and coast:
Who cannot dresse it well, want wit, not words.
How neatly doe we give one onely name
To parents issue and the sunnes bright starre!
A sonne is light and fruit; a fruitfull flame
Chasing the fathers dimnesse, carri’d farre
From the first man in th’ East, to fresh and new
Western discov’ries of posteritie.
So in one word our Lords humilitie
We turn upon him in a sense most true:
For what Christ once in humblenesse began,
We him in glorie call, The Sonne of Man. (George Herbert 1633)
Honestly, why are you everywhere when I try to enjoy some Christmas music?
Steven Harrold (the soloist at :40) is now a very fine tenor.
It would be great if their was a cd release of the album directed by Christopher Dearnley. That was a beautiful album containing such gems as "Jesus Parvule, Standing in the Rain and A Cry in the Night". Thanks for posting this.
That was beautiful but when the boy started telling everyone that the director was beating frantically I lost it
Wow.. a young Peter Auty speaking near the end (5:10). This must have been just before he shot to fame with "Walking in the air", the theme tune from the Snowman.
And Aled Jones got all the credit for it!

omg, read the description...
The holly and the ivy,
When they are both full grown,
Of all trees that are in the wood,
The holly bears the crown
O, the rising of the sun,
And the running of the deer
The playing of the merry organ,
The holly bears a blossom,
As white as lily flow'r,
And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ,
To be our dear Saviour
O, the rising of the sun,
And the running of the deer
The playing of the merry organ,
The holly bears a berry,
As red as any blood,
And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ,
To do poor sinners good
O, the rising of the sun,
And the running of the deer
The playing of the merry organ,
The holly bears a prickle,
As sharp as any thorn,
And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ,
On Christmas Day in the morn
O, the rising of the sun,
And the running of the deer
The playing of the merry organ,
The holly bears a bark,
As bitter as the gall,
And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ,
For to redeem us all
O, the rising of the sun,
And the running of the deer
The playing of the merry organ,
The holly and the ivy,
When they are both full grown,
Of all trees that are in the wood,
The holly bears the crown
O, the rising of the sun,
And the running of the deer
The playing of the merry organ,
I was wondering what Jeremy Clarkson is before hosting Top Gear. Huh.
Jeremy Vine? The Jeremy Vine who's on BBC Pointless or is just coincidence
Nobody by that name on Pointless...nothing one could call a coincidence here....there is a Radio 2 (?) presenter named Jeremy Vine but this is a different person. Sometimes people just have the same name as somebody else.
@@Ken_oh545 are you THE Matthew Vine, famous tenor of the Huelgas ensemble and expert on Gregorian chant? I once met you in a pub in Dover, it was the highlight of my life. Im such a fan. Can I have a signed photo?
Replying to 'Benjamin Bevan', surely a troll impersonating a Beaujolais-swilling pub landlord of that name: Do you want a swimwear pic - to add to your collection of tenors in their underpants?
This is Western Civ.
fizmath Dat wacist! 😭
fizmath It is western civilization and what's wrong with it? Beautiful!
I can't read whatever is written in blue before the song.... it's pretty, but not legible :)
this is incorrect
WAY TOO HIGH!!
+RD Sheehan
they're boys
RD Sheehan shut your noise!
A very beautiful son spoiled with all that unnecessary high, high falsetto. Those poor boys were tortured into force-forming those notes.
My Jamaican primary school choir, circa 1966, gave a better rendition.
