Helena Paish sings ORDINARY STABLE, a new song for Christmas
A new song for Christmas (text below), with words and music by MERVYN BEDFORD, sung by 13 year old HELENA PAISH at a public concert in the chapel at St.Monica's, Bristol, accompanied by her singing teacher, BARRY ROSE.
Just an ordinary stable, on an extra special night.
Just some ordinary shepherds with their sheep.
Just an ordinary manger, filled with ordinary hay,
That became a royal cradle, where the King of true love lay,
Angels fill the sky with singing, shepherds wonder at the sight,
Just an ordinary stable, on an extra-special night.
Now the ordinary stable is a place of hope and love,
Now the shepherds spread the most amazing news.
Now the ordinary manger, filled with ordinary hay,
Says that everyone is special, in a extra-special way.
And the story's still unfolding, full of freedom, grace, and light,
Making ordinary special, shining through the darkest night.
May the love and joy of Christmas sparkle through your darkest night.

All suddenly the wind comes soft, And Spring is here again; And the hawthorn quickens with buds of green, And my heart with buds of pain. My heart all Winter lay so numb, The earth so dead and frore, That I never thought the Spring would come, Or my heart wake any more. But Winter's broken and earth has woken, And the small birds cry again; And the hawthorn hedge puts forth its buds, And my hea...

The holly and the ivy, When they are both full grown, Of all trees that are in the wood, The holly bears the crown O, the rising of the sun, And the running of the deer The playing of the merry organ, The holly bears a blossom, As white as lily flow'r, And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ, To be our dear Saviour O, the rising of the sun, And the running of the deer The playing of the merry organ, The holly bears a berry, As red as any blood, And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ, To do poor sinners good O, the rising of the sun, And the running of the deer The playing of the merry organ, The holly bears a prickle, As sharp as any thorn, And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ, On Christmas Day in the morn O, the rising of the sun, And the running of the deer The playing of the merry organ, The holly bears a bark, As bitter as the gall, And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ, For to redeem us all O, the rising of the sun, And the running of the deer The playing of the merry organ, The holly and the ivy, When they are both full grown, Of all trees that are in the wood, The holly bears the crown O, the rising of the sun, And the running of the deer The playing of the merry organ,

The words were changed over the years to "thou we are sinners we have known your forgiveness" from "thou we are sinners we are sorry we are sinners" The song was from an oratario by David Palmer called Holy Boy. I was in the first performance 42 years ago along with 300 kids from Croydon schools & a full orchestra! A fabulous time in my life & a memory that has lasted a lifetime! 😊
