Nice review buddy. So far I have cracked my Vinho Barrique and Bourbon Solists and both are stellar whiskies. I have yet to crack my Sherry Solist, but based on this review and others, it will be sooner rather than later! Cheers!
W6, I tried to find this bottle and no success from the UK.. I did end up receiving the 46% abv version, same juice which they say is the sweet spot? If I still had the choice, I would of got the Solist expression for another $40-50, but I'm not complaining because now the 46% is somewhat hard to find.. Go figure. It will be sometime before I open this bottle, as well as my most other recent buys. Unfortunately I do not have friends who enjoy scotch, so I'm alone for now at least. Can't wait for your re-review of the Goyne 25 yr.. That tasting in Scotland blew me away, as well as the Bunna 25 yr...I just received both bottles yesterday and I must say the Bunna box is just beautiful, as well as the Goyne. Another great review.
Bunna box is awesome indeed. The Goyne is nice as well. I think we paid the same for the Glengoyne after conversion to CAD. I passed on my chance to get the Kavalan Sherry at 46% because it was 150 at a total wine. Regret it now though.
They really are. I was so lucky to visit the distillery but I went before they had the variety they do now. They only had 4 bottles in the Solist line when I was there, so now I'm left wishing I could get some of their new releases!
Late start tonight. I guess unless this shows up in Nova Scotia I will never see a bottle, because I would never pay the LCBO price if it was available. From what I have read Tropical aging is like 1 year Tropical (Kavalan/Amrut) is equal to 4 years Scotland. So they say. Nice review, when you open the Solist we need some sample swaps
Watched it twice to really add to the conversation. I think the what they are doing to get these flavors at 5 years old is a combination of wood, and molecule acceleration. There's a few companies that make whisk that way, but hey if it works then use it. The nose sound really good, and the flavors are similar to the Glengoyne 25 based on the mention. 21- 25 is a difference, but not much from what I've been told in the past. The cost factors is something that I have looked at for a while with these bottles. Hence $400 -$500 can net an 80 year old cognac. Glad to see that market is still on amends lol. Id say 54% and Sherry at $175.00 USD with shipping runs $200ish for the Kavalan Sherry. The EX Bourbon is running $150ish plus shipping runs $175 USD that's $360.00 all day long here in the USA. Contrast with the 46% ABV Kavalns running $235. I wonder if that's the better buy some times. /Shrug The US market is milking it for all the dollars. You can buy the Cask Str for $225 in Amesterdam or was it some other place, but the shipping is $100 dollars. What I'm saying is at these prices, you should make Promotion of Pateron a high priority. *Great Review Buddy* #8th Thumbs up and Shared on Twitter.
Thanks brother. I appreciate the well comprised comment. It may actually be worth your while to drive to Calgary. You can get this cheaper in Alberta. You are much closer than I am other wise I'd be driving there once a month. 80 year old cognac sounds like the Best Buy 10 times out of 10. When I get my live reviews set up I'd love to have you on my channel. Cheers buddy.
They don't use molecule acceleration (although I'm not 100% sure I know what you mean by that), but they dohave a very humid and hot climate. Their 5 story warehouse easily gets past 130 degrees in the summer along with tropical humidity levels that gives them and evaporation of 10-15% annually. This is why their 5 year old whiskies are so expensive, because they lose the same amount of product as a 20 year scotch at 2-4% a year (and they're cask strength instead of 40-43%). As for how they attain such high quality so quickly I think it really is the wood. It seems they genuinely use only the very highest quality casks along with the local Yilan water being quite exceptional and delicious. But otherwise they are not employing any trickery. Cheers!
@Malt Mondays oh I was talking about the science of aging whisky. I just know its something currently being mastered. www.wired.com/2014/05/making-time-go-faster-for-aged-booze/
That's what I thought you might be talking about. Fascinating stuff and will probably make some cheaper bottom shelf stuff taste better soon but Kavalan just cheats with their climate instead!
Great Video, thanks. I bought a bottle because of your tasting. I'm really interested for the Glengoyne 25 Whisky tasting from you. The Glengoyne 25 is my absolute favorite Whisky.
Did you get the ex-bourbon oak or solist as well? Amazing stuff, huh? Even my mother in law was surprised how drinkable the solist is for 57.8. I've got a third of a bottle left plus one unopened. A+! Wow! I forget what I gave it. I hope they do a Taiwanese barley small batch at some point. I've got to watch that T&C review with the blooper. Cheers Rob!Mark
I totally agree. I just had the 46% version and it completely blows away most sherry scotches. Aberlour 18, and abunah didn't have a chance. I am shocked that they can do this with a 5 year old whisky. It has an air of macallan. I honestly found it tastier than mac18.
Nice review. I had the opportunity to visit the distillery when I was in Taiwan last week, it was such an amazing experience!! Which one do you like it better? This or the Vinho Barrique?
KaVaLan has become such a commodity that I got a couple o sips at whisky festivals, but the price is simply astronomical or the bottles are not available... I can easily pass and enjoy experiences under $100.
KAVALAN IS SUPER WHISKY. INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!
Its a super Whisky👌🏼; Good Review about this outstanding Dram 👍🏽; greats from germany, wish you all the best, Shaun🙋🏽♂️
I had Subscribe your Chanel…
Cheers!
Great review bud. Cant wait to see whats in store for this distillery.
I really want to try the moscatel, Amontillado and PX
Nice review buddy. So far I have cracked my Vinho Barrique and Bourbon Solists and both are stellar whiskies. I have yet to crack my Sherry Solist, but based on this review and others, it will be sooner rather than later! Cheers!
I've only tried two Kavalans myself but both were incredible. I expect greatness from these guys. Love what they're doing with their whisky.

W6, I paid $88 from TWE...Where did you get the Solist and how much.
Hey can't buy every bottle we come across, right.
That sound like an awsome dram. I have a few Kavalans on the sample shelves - might just go trough a few of them now :)
They are really impressive. Shockingly good.
They really are. I was so lucky to visit the distillery but I went before they had the variety they do now. They only had 4 bottles in the Solist line when I was there, so now I'm left wishing I could get some of their new releases!
Glad you liked this one. I prefer the Sherry over the Vinho. Haven't tried the Ex-Bourbon, or the Vino yet, but they are tops on my list.
I can't wait to get the Fino. It'll be soon.

Sounds like a plan Peter. I'm going to have to agree with the 1=4. It definitely tastes like old whisky.

Great review! Looking forward to a re-review of the Glengoyne 25yo.
As am I. Cheers bud.

Thanks for watching Mark. This one is a beauty. Think you have the Solist a 87. Could be wrong. I really enjoyed it.

Just opened the bottle I'm holding in that picture. The review will come shortly.
I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
Nice review. I had the opportunity to visit the distillery when I was in Taiwan last week, it was such an amazing experience!! Which one do you like it better? This or the Vinho Barrique?
I like the VB better.

They are very expensive. You're not wrong that's for sure.
Woops just found this one too! LOL already ordered it.
They’re all different. Yours will be great.
nice review. i like all of their offerings. havent had anything from them i wasnt impressed by.
I'm finding the same thing.
hows the tulip like copita against a glencairn?
They are super similar. Perhaps I have to do a head to head like I did with the Notlan vs Glencairn.
nice mine is s09 01/17
REVOLG TV have you opened it?
i have not and believe me its been difficult to control myself.
I hear you.
Hype
Too small a bottle - doesn't count! LOL!
Lol. If I had the money I'd buy two of everything. For now bottles like these must be saved for special occasions.
