How sad there is so many negative comments about this. I served 22 years in the British Army and know how much we admire and respect Gurkha's. they are not pet dogs as some fools say, probably because they were not good enough to join. They are my brothers in arms.

Very kind of you to mention that Stan. I did 28 years with the same Regiment as Yam. retired in 98. There are always haters and losers but once a squaddie always a squaddie and like you say, brothers in arms

I know Yam and Alice well. Excellent achievement for a LE officer in the Brigade - and the first one to have crossed the threshold. Well done to Yam and Alice. You have not only proven that we are just as good but also paved the way for many other Gurkha LE officers to strive for what you have achieved if not higher. Tol Bahadur Khamcha from our same Regiment has recently proven that. Kudos to both of you and your family for your fantastic achievements.

Colonel, many congratulations on your successful career. I was born into a military family, my father having joined at the age of 16. He had no academic qualifications and the only education he got was from the Army. Exactly the same limitations exist for British Army soldiers, the highest rank that can be achieved is Lt Col. He served for 39 years, achieving promotion through every single rank, becoming Lt Col as his final rank. I then went on to join as a commissioned officer, and as all those attending the academy, met the Gurkha demonstration company at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst as well as on ops in Kosovo in '99. Hard working, loyal and with a great sense of humour, the Gurkhas are a credit to the British Army, continuing the tradition and honour of the many generations that have gone before, in this unique brotherhood between Nepal and the United Kingdom.

So please for this man.. I was born in London but my upbringing was in the town of Chatham in Kent.. Which has a Gurkha regiment based there. As a child and young man before moving back to London I had over the years a few incounters with the great young men from this base.. On one occasion had three join us for my sisters 18th birthday party.. They are very respectful and nice People that have served this country with honour and love for many years.. But it's a pity our political party's have not been so over the years and have been treated them as they should be..I salute this man and other Gurkha's on the behalf of all the British nation...

i had the honor of spending 2 weeks with the 2nd Gurkha rifles back in 1985 at the Cardiff searchlight tattoo, we all stayed and cyncoed college during the 2weeks and was told by my CO to stay away from them, but being a hot headed sergeant i ignored my orders and went to speak with a group of them, they happened to be the most polite genuine people i have ever met, during the 2weeks with them i learned alot about the culture of the Gurkha, memories il have for the rest of my lifetime

Years ago a Gurkha engineering company were invited to CFB Aldershot, Nova Scotia Canada to help with some upgrades to the base. I was in back then but not around base Aldershot. My Warrant Officer brother was and said they were a great group to work with and very friendly. The young trouble makers in town learned to watch their manners around these fellows.

My family took an American visitor to Windsor Castle; we'd been there previously when the Guards were on duty - big guys. This time there were no Guards & my little kiddie said "I want to see a real soldier". Whereupon, a gurkha pulled himself up and said "I AM a real soldier". I was terrified - I thought he might cut us up with his kukri". From what I've seen and know, these guys are the tops. If you're an enemy you shouldn't mess with them; if you're a friend they're fantastic.
