I'm probably the only drummer here who knows who john douglas is... Must be nice to be Frank's drum Tech. And then be the drummer for Billy. At the same time, being the Tech for Alex and many others. Position well deserved my friend!!!
Saw zztop. Several years ago.. Billy came up and strummed his guitar...AND NOTHING!! he looked at the guitar... Looked at the crowd and said....." I CANT PLAY THIS GUITAR!".... The crowd died laughing as he switched guitars..... Was one of thr greatest moments in my concert going career..... Rock on billy! Rip dusty.... Gone but never forgotten.
Although I saw ZZ Top show after show, I really feel the need for JUST ONE MORE. RIP Dusty. Here's hoping Billy comes back to the USA for a late summer/fall tour.
I love the music and im sure Dusty would want them to keep on going but i can say my chest hurts and my eyes are leaking as im listening to this. Rip Dusty. Thanks Rev Willy G for doing what you do.
@@ricknelson5493 My ex-son-in-law worked at Guitar Center in Austin and said Bille would come in and was just a great guy. No I’m a star bs. Totally cool dude that treated everyone there with kindness and respect.
Billy rockin' hard still and all the audience can do is wave camera phones about, back in the day that would have been a mosh pit with a few Bikers in the middle doing a hand jive boogie, flying beer cans and some bird with her tits out....
Awesome tone and this really oldschool with guitar and amp and without any pedals! But Mr. Gibbons most probably also sounded great, if he only played a plastic guitar. Interesting combination too, two guitars but no bass.
Where is the bass player? I miss Dusty Hill but his replacement Francis was a great choice as he was Dustys bass tech for many years. I own two of Dustys custom shop basses that Dusty used my black one on an off for five years and my red barn door, custom shop reverse headstock bass was used by Dusty on and off for the last three years of his life. There were five of them made for him and I have one out of the five. I got my 1968 telecaster bass right after the show in New York city. This was 20 years ago and I was at Mannys music when the boys walked in and at that very moment I was checking out the 68 and when I heard Billy Gibbons say to me, would you mind if we bought that bass. Some of our equipment got hung up in Tulsa and Dusty needs a bass. How could I say no? I said man I’ve been saving up for this bass and they’ve been keeping this behind the counter for me for almost 6 months and Dusty said I will buy it and I will give you backstage tickets after the show in two days you can come backstage and pick it up. At that time the 68 was costing me $2000 now it’s worth about 9000 but even more because it’s signed by Dusty and I have the original bill of sale with his name on it, matching the serial number. I have an amazing collection of pre-CBS fenders long live Dusty hill.
Wow great story and great that you kept all of the paperwork for authenticity! All it would have needed was a couple of photos from in the music shop and backstage picking up the guitar. So you basically made $2000 for lending your guitar to ZZ Top for two days? Mark from Melbourne Australia
ZZ top one of badest ass blues rock country bands ever on stage. Long about 1977/78, (one of many times saw them live.) Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. Their roadshow for that tour included a couple of "long horn steers" straight from Texas cattle country. One of them was a little rambunctious during sound check. And got free, he was having a good o time running from MNPD and handlers all around the infield. Somebody finally got a couple real cowboys, horses and all they roped him , got him calmed down. They got him to platform for the show and ZZ top blew Nashville away for 2hrs.
Jimi said that Rory Gallagher was the best, too. They have to face journalists & answer as quickly as they can, whatever if they are exhausted after a show,or if this girl need more attention than the guy backstage with his stupid mike, & his huge capacity to destroy you at the first mistake . Look at BB King's!
Its cool with a new band, and cool they, Billy, could afford ANOTHER set of special painted guitars. But a bit strange without Dusty Hillside and Frankly without Beard. Is it really Billy playing behind those sooted windows, and was it really him? :)
HELLO MY FRIENDS (THIS IS NOT MINE) Jimi Hendrix said (in the question who was the best quitarist?) He said, Billy Gibbons. You all can see it (google)
ZZ TOP and RUSH were to only 2 bands I ever saw live, that sounded as good (sometimes; even better!) than their studio albums. Course, that's only includes about 30 concerts of about 14 different bands...
I'm pretty sure that there's a few backing tracks on Gimme.... The effects in the drum break and the harmonized notes during a few of Billy's guitar parts sound like they used to with ZZ live.
Didn't think the bass guitarist was aware of his surroundings and looked at any of Dusty Hills footage, not flowing at all. I'm curious at why Billy agreed to this?
Billy rockin' at 73 years old. He ain't old. Have mercy!
A How How How to that
we don't automatically die at that age......
One of the coolest guys in rock history! Rock on Billy!
Well, THIS was a nice surprise!!! Nobody rocks the blues like Billy!
Billy F Gibbons for President..
ZZ was my first concert back in 86.
Love this man.
RIP 🙏 Dusty
Our own Texas Tone Meister, Billy Gibbons still bending and Pickin’ those strings well into his 70’s.🤘🏼
Well this was FREAKIN AMAZING. A lot of old rockers need walkers. This cat setting the joint on 🔥
Billy sounding real good here. Playing and singing.
The thing I admire about Billy is that he makes everything look so easy.
What an inspiration how to do things with such class quality and style forever
Uh How How How it never gets old ….
So freaking raw like the old days! Man y'all still got it! It's all about FEEL. (Need fur guitars regardless!)
Billy, don t stop rocking and blueing!!!!!
Wow, great guitar tone!
I seen them over forty years ago. It’s nice to see them still rocking and people still having a great time.
Awesome
Das ist doch einfach nur klasse
Hey, why not?!! Great energy, great crowd. Thumbs up.
Glad to see he's still up there. Thanks for posting.
Cool beans ! Billy rocks and jams !!!
love that big texas sound. whooooo...

Saw him with Aerosmith in Vegas last year, fabulous drummer 👌🏻
He's sounding better than Frank has in a while unfortunately
What happened to Frank did he retire?
This is Billy Gibbons' solo band, not ZZ Top. ZZ are also still active.@@Alien300Blackout
awesome
Best ZZ Top cover band out there

That guy could make a 2x4 and twine sound great. What a legend.

I think I enjoyed this more from watching on YT than the crowd. 😉

Austin‘s guitar has a special pickup, which adds a low octave. So far for the bass
I researched theese guitars after this gig. The pickup is called "A little Thunder", the guitars are Newman. I think the model is called Honeycomb.
His pedals are ran by his guitar tech from the side of the stage. Do a search for his rig rundown and it shows what pedals he uses.
Que bueno!!!✌

This band makes way more sense than keeping the ZZTop name alive without Dusty.
Amen
What about beard?.

I agree but it's not the same without Dusty!! Looks like a different drummer. Where's Frank? They do sound good though!
@@Floridafisherman5000 This BFG out on his own.
Pretty good sound quality for an "amateur" or rather audience-based video.
That's because the audio mix through the sound system is really good.
I think Willy wants to stay in show biz a while. We gonna hear a lot more outta him. Stand back!

Blueing!!!
Never noticed how cool and original "Gimme All Your Lovin'" is.

So weird that Billy recorded the introduction of himself.

Firing on all cylinders
Nice. Has a rawer sound than ZZtop. Maybe no backing tracks?

hey musicians, what's the BFG guitar player running his guitar through? It sounds like a bass or bass synth.
"A Little Thunder", a pickup that picks up only the low frequencies and I think makes them an octave lower.
Who iz the Bass Layer ?
What are the Axes? Chitacasters?
The phones are ruining our lives.....
Billy's got everything he had except the lightning speed on his lead work.
Nobody can live in the moment. Cell phones ruin everything.
You are actually there, and yet you are going to still see it on video.
😎🤘🌹 T&M
Who is playing bass?
Love Billy. Sound is not the same without a real bass
is Billy going solo?
Is ZZTop over?
So is the other guy playin bass parts?
Without the Bass guitar it sounds so empty. They still are great but please don't forget the Bass it's an important part of the rhythm section.
BFG stands for Billy F….. Gibbons I assume?
The Band needs Elmore Bass IMHO !!!!!
How does a classic rock star enter in from a club pounding Underworld song? I don't get it, but I kinda like it!
Which song is it? I loved the beat, but couldn’t place the tune…
ZZ Top played a lot of electronic stuff ahead of their 2019 gig I saw.
Whos on bass?
