  • Zeiss LRP S5 3-18X50 scope. It Does so many things really well, but nothing really better than any other optic in the same category. Here are my initial thoughts from my first range trip with it.

    3-18x is probably the perfect magnification range. Is that your NRL hunter rig?

    I have an older Conquest 6.5-20 and it is absolutely he clearest scope to my eye that I have. Though it proves I am an idiot the store had 3 of them and not sure hat they were thinking back then they were 1200 dollar scopes and they were marked at $425 I should have purchased all 3 but I did not know any better. When I searched on them and noticed the price I went back that day and they all were sold. Brand new not refurbished. Thanks for turning me on to this new version or maybe no thanks lol there is a rifle build under way that is in need of an optic. You do an outstanding job on product reviews brother.

    I don't get why they went with different torx heads on the elevation and windage.

      to eliminate any confusion of which turret, say - a youngster of 15 - 45 yrs. old, is working with - due to brain fog due to vaccinations us Americans received,....after all, the logic is obvious - no such a thing as "made in America" when it comes to scopes,....we're lucky to have "boxed in America", or at best - "assembled in America".....so there's that.....just say'n....

    Thank you for pointing out the parallax knob and its markings. X-Ring pointed it out and I’ve been researching for a way around it or it’s a no brainer or I might just be overthinking it.

    Zeiss needs to listen to customers and make the following changes:
    1. Fix the turrets from the factory so that the hashes line up correctly on the turret from the factory.
    2. Make the turrets 25% shorter in height/size
    3. Improve the parallax adjustment by reducing the heavy throw, reducing the length of the adjustment range (make it more forgiving) and provide calibrated marks on the parallax knob.
    4. Increase the diopter range on the negative side for the large number of near sighted people for which the current optic design does NOT work for very effectively. Go beyond negative -2.5 please.
    5. Use the same size torx head screws in both the elevation and windage turrets (I mean come on Zeiss really).

    • @PrecisionRifleNetwork
      @PrecisionRifleNetwork  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Interesting.
      1. Mine lined up perfectly.
      2. Then there would be less overall adjustment.
      3. I see the point about the amount of adjustment. There’s a lot of range, but indicator lines/values mean nothing.
      4. Going beyond negative, I agree.
      5. I agree, but they do include a single tool with both sizes. Not that difficult to use.

    Thanks fer sharing !!.......at 7:52-7:55 your trigger reset/rebound looks funky to say the least,....maybe just my old eyes...???....just thought I'd mention that to see what your visual-thought is.

      90° trigger press straight to the rear, and proper follow-through… I’m not sure what you are seeing. Perhaps you could rephrase your question for me?

      @ericrumpel3105 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PrecisionRifleNetwork I didn't mean your finger, I meant the actual trigger on the rifle - looks like it's moving/resetting/rebounding in slow motion, but, like I said,.....may be my old eyes or the video,....no big deal, was just wondering if you happened to see it aswell.

    Odd how the Schott glass in a ZCO would be better than the Schott glass in that Zeiss scope.
    I suppose the larger 36mm tube of the ZCO may be a factor in that comparison but don't know for sure.

    • @PrecisionRifleNetwork
      @PrecisionRifleNetwork  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that percentage of light transmission is greater because of the objective lens, but also there are differences between Schott glass in the ZCO and others. Think of it like diamonds. There are different colors, clarity, and purity that increase the value. It’s kinda the same in optical glass.

    • @Sagittariustoo
      @Sagittariustoo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PrecisionRifleNetwork Look forward to the arrival of my ZCO 8-40 and comparing it to my other scopes to see what I think of it.
      Zeiss claims they have glass available for binoculars that is superior to anything available today but would up the price
      considerably and increase the weight.

    • @PrecisionRifleNetwork
      @PrecisionRifleNetwork  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Sagittariustoo cool. I got to play with that 8-40 ZCO at shotshow this year. It’s fairly impressive. I’m curious to see what consumers think after a lot of people start using it.

    Were you able to keep it at maximum power without any issues ? I've got a very accurate .17 HMR heavy barrel varmint/bench setup that I'm wanting to put this on and these 53 year old eyes like to have my magnification set right around 18 power all the time on my higher magnification scopes. Thanks for another delightful and informative video.

    • @PrecisionRifleNetwork
      @PrecisionRifleNetwork  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm with you, I have to keep it up towards 18x most of the time. old eyes suck.

    The rest of the scope looks good. But those turrets are ugly and look unrefined for a scope that expensive.

      @r1ght1left1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly the turrets themselves feel very good, the finish on the scope is high quality. The clicks are distinct and audible. Not mushy. If it wasn't for the alignment issues and the height I think the turrets would be great.

    • @frankheisler9781
      @frankheisler9781 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@r1ght1left1 I'm not doubting they have good function mechanical wise. They just look very out of place with how tall they are and the knurling looks cheap. Also not a fan of 12mrad per rotation. Now take that scope and throw something inbetween a ZCO/TT turret design on it. Then I think they would have knocked it out of the park with this new line.

    3k for a scope? Even if it was 2k you could buy a sweet rifle instead, or a lot of ammo.
