- How did Vidit Gujrathi manage to crush Hikaru Nakamura in 29 moves? He did it with several piece sacrifices and hunting the American Grandmaster's king. It was a brilliant show by the Indian GM and in this video we have IM Sagar Shah analyzing the game in his inimitable style.

Hikaru kept so many pieces undeveloped till the end and was stuck in defense mode for most of the match. Vidit was on top of his game. To defeat one of the tournament faves with black is something.

Vidit's prep looks like a disgusting creative line from Ganguly. Gave a flavour of Anand's WC2012 games against Gelfand, which I barely remember. Does the opponent dirty with tactics.

Agree with you about the engine lines but beyond a point, the practicality of play by both players matters since they don't have access to engines once they are on the board.

Uncharacteristic for Naka . Vidit absolutely dismantled him. Not taking the bishop was a huge mistake. Especially being so underdeveloped. Vidit gambled and won. Hikaru gambled and lost. Good game for the Indian! I know the Indian people are proud. 🇮🇳 Greetings from the USA 🇺🇸

Sagar's enthusiastic commentary literally had me on the edge of my seat anticipating the moves..like a heavyweight boxing match...whew!!
An amazing game by Vidit. His prep was brilliant, but that was only the start of it. Hikaru has a talent for wriggling himself out of seemingly impossible situations, but Vidit never gave him so much as an inch of breathing room for him to do his thing.
