Pop icon Madonna has paid tribute to her late brother, Christopher Ciccone, who passed away at the age of 63 from cancer.
Ciccone, a tour director and dancer for Madonna, was a close confidant and collaborator. The siblings shared a bond forged through their shared love of dance and their experiences navigating the entertainment industry together.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Madonna expressed her deep sorrow and described Ciccone as "the closest thing to me for so long." She recalled their childhood adventures, their shared passion for art and music, and their unwavering support for each other throughout their lives.
"We danced through the madness of our childhood, in fact dance was a kind of superglue that held us together," Madonna wrote. "We devoured art and music and film like hungry animals in New York City."
The siblings' relationship experienced its share of challenges, including a public falling out in 2008 following the publication of Ciccone's memoir. However, in recent years, they had reconciled.
"The last few years have not been easy," Madonna admitted. "We did not speak for sometime but when my brother got sick, we found our way back to each other."
Madonna expressed gratitude for the time they were able to spend together during his illness and shared a poignant memory of their final moments together: "He was in so much pain towards the end, once again, we held hands, we closed our eyes and we danced, together."
Ciccone, who was also an artist and interior designer, left a lasting impact on the entertainment industry. His work as a music video director and his contributions to Madonna's career will be remembered fondly.
