@wolfaesthetic Yep, he was a pain in the ass at the start but lightened up finally as the show went on. His nickname was Mr. Shakespeare due to acting so serious at first off camera.
wolfaesthetic Brent Spiner says it was during the episode where Tasha Yar gets murdered, Marina Sirtis caught him on the set for the funeral scene hammily singing “the hills are alive with the sound of music” and giggling like an idiot. Apparently from then on he became the lovable goofball we all know and love.

One of the things I hope to see in the new Picard series is small genuine moments. Everyone on TNG was always so stuck up, but nowadays that won't go on a TV show. That combined with the fact that they're allowed to use profanities now might make things a bit more interesting.
It’s so neat to see Stewart all goofy like he is in this. After those first season stories you always hear about- the ones where he was pretty difficult to get along with, seeing him act more like the way you see him on his Twitter and other social media accounts is pretty cool. I’m glad he let loose after the first season and lightened up.
There's a really touching story he told at a panel about how his original mindset when working on TNG was "we are here to work, not to have fun", and how he learned from his castmates that it was possible to do good work and have fun at the same time.

Brent told a story about how he admonished them all for goofing off. "I AM APPALLED!" Then Brent comes on set to stare past the grave in the skin of evil episode and Stewart was twirling on the the fake hill singing "THE HILLSSS ARE ALLLIIVE." Brent summed it up as "we broke him"
The best is the look on Patrick's face whenever Jonathan flubs a line, like someone who just saw their best friend get caught with their hand in the cookie jar!

Nothing compares to the magic of the next generation. Everything came together so perfectly. By the second season they had a perfect cast, they had great social commentary every episode, the acting was good, the costumes were practical but effective.
As much as I tried to like discovery I just can't say the same things about it. I hate the cast, they pretty much say nothing in terms of social commentary, and the costumes are just distracting.
You mean by the third season TNG had the perfect cast because you have to remember Dr.Polaski was the ship’s doctor in season 2, not Dr.Crusher.

It's like big brother and an MTV reality show had a disabled child...besides, I didn't even mind her. she was a bit rough around the edges with a touch of Bones. of course she was no Crusher and I was glad she came back but hey, at least we still had Star Trek back then.
I would say season 3 is when the show started to gel and then season 4 it started hitting its stride. Also I agree old school Trek's social commentary was smarter and more nuanced unlike today where they hit you over head like a damn after school special lol

I love the idea that Patrick Stewart started out all stoic and serious behind the scenes, and was gradually turned into the funner, camera mugging Stewart we see here by his cast mates.
