Kris Kristofferson is the original Modern Renaissance Man. Great student athlete, Rhodes scholar, served in Army helicopter pilot. Singer songwriter actor . . .
He is an incredible man. He signed up for the military during the Vietnam war. They wanted him to stay behind in the states and be a college professor. He wasn't having it. He said he wanted to fight just like everyone else. That's where he learned to fly helicopters.
The Acoustic Christian you almost got the story correct. That is where he learned to fly helicopters and they had appointed him to teach at West Point but he declined the appointment to work on his music. This is why his family disowned him
Truth here, dear Lord. For all who have ever come under conviction for their sin. This still makes me cry and pray. This song is annointed because its from his heart.
Kris is 85 yrs old today. He has led a very full life - he was a pilot in the military, a Rhodes scholar, very successful song writer, actor, musician & singer, not to mention very good looking in his hey day! But the most important thing that ever happened to him was in that friend’s church, when he didn’t even understand why he was there! How gracious is our God!!!
I discovered Kris and his music as a teenager and loved him ever since. I have seen him 3 times in concert and he was amazing. I was lucky to meet him and what a fantastic man. I even got a hug and he called me "darlin" in that deep southern drawl, swoon🥰🥰🥰 adore him so talented, handsome and just a wonderful spiritual human being.
Hands down one of the greatest song writers there has ever been. Loving you was easier the anything I'll ever do again; to me is his top written song performed by the Glaser Brothers.
Yeah one of my favorites too. As far as country music goes you can't do better than the Highway Men. I grew up listening to Willy, Waylon, Johnny Cash and Kristopherson. My daddy really loved these guys and so I know most of these songs by heart. Before my dad died in '99 I gave him a CD by Vince Gill. He was very skeptical about it at first. But he ended up playing it every day. At his funeral we played "Go Rest High'" as he requested and sometimes I still cry when I hear it. But my dad left this world wrapped in the arms of Almighty God and what a blessing for all of us that he left behind. That in itself is a miracle and you'd have to know my dad, who he was and the man he became to really understand. Many country songs have more heart and soul than any of the songs you'll hear in church. And we can thank our Maker for these country singers that can sing us to our eternal home. AMEN !!!
Kris Kristofferson is one of the finest songwriters the world has known. His words have a way of reaching your soul; they touch you with their heart wrenching honesty. Simple words beautifully woven together that bare the emotions we all have but rarely admit to. Sunday Morning Coming Down, sung by Johnny Cash, if you've ever been lonely. Help Me Make It Through The Night, if you've ever needed someone. For The Good Times, if you've ever had your heart broken. Me and Bobby McGee', sung by Janis Joplin, if you've ever regretted the one that got away. There are many many more excellent songs by this brilliant artist, but these four some of his greatest hits.
One of my favorite songs. Makes me cry thinking about God's grace and my thankfulness for it. His song is simple, heartfelt and beautiful. Kris is very famous for being a great singer and songwriter, and some acting too. Look him up, he's an interesting guy.
What do Elvis, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Clark, Charley Rich, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, the Oak Ridge Boys, Conway Twitty, Tanya Tucker, Mickey Gilley, Travis Tritt, Donna Fargo, Carroll Baker, Christy Lane, CeCe Winans and Wanda Jackson all have in common? They did covers of Why Me Lord. You know a song is great when all of the greats want to cover it.
I completely agree. Listen to Sunday Morning Coming Down. I wish you had listened to it before this one. It's sort of a prequel to this song, in my opinion. The lyrics are amazing. The heartfelt story is amazing.
The best song Kris Kristofferson ever sang or wrote. something a lot of people don't know is that Kris is also a very smart person as well as being extremely gifted. He is a Rhodes Scholar. A Rhodes Scholar is someone who is invited to study at Oxford University in England.
I have parkinson's disease, but every morning I try to walk around outside as much as I can, and I put this song on my phone and listen to it as I pray and walk. A beautiful song!
I think that it was a sincere experience for a famous person such as KRIS KRISTOFFERSON to give his personal testimony to his peers. That was a heartfelt song, and that made it very special for me. I love KRISTOFFERSON and have followed him since the beginning with Johnny cash, WILLIE Nelson and the outlaws..he has written a lot of the great music sung by others.
To truly understand his testimony. You need to hear his song. Sunday Morning Coming Down. It tells of his life prior to his salvation. It is a great song in its own right, but paired with this doubly powerful.
I had know idea that he wrote this song, and I have sung it many, many times ☺️🙏❤️🙏 What a great testimony 👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏 Love and blessings for everyone 🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏
I cry almost every time I hear this song it just reaches into my soul. My grandma had an album by Kris that had "Why Me" on it and that was the first time I heard it...back in the 70's. I also really like "Me And Bobby McGee" though my favorite recording of that is by Janis Joplin, who Kris had been romantically involved with earlier.
I first heard this on a Gaither homecoming video sung by Bob Caine and it moved me greatly. I was blown away when I found out that Kris wrote this song. To hear his testimony just made this video so special. Great pick Ty💕
I saw Kris & Johnny Cash & Andre Crouch & Larry Norman & many many others perform when I attended Explo 72 in Dallas, Texas! Most amazing & faith affirming experience of my entire life! 💖
Kris is a great song writer, i.e., "Me and Bobby McGee", "Sunday Moring Coming Down". He's also a Rhoades Scholar Out of Oxford, with a genius level I.Q. Also, he was a Helicopter pilot in Vietnam. He got his break in Music by renting a Helicopter and landing it on the front lawn of Johnny Cash's farm, in Arkansas. They talked music, Kris played some of his many songs he had written, and the rest is history! J. James, Montrose, Co.
I never liked Kris Kristofferson's singing voice, but this song has always spoken to me. I can't imagine anyone else singing it like him. .. And I love the testimony!!!
Kris is a remarkable man. Put his time in the Air Force, was a Rhodes Scholar, written so many hit songs and a movie star. A very remarkable man and life.....
Elvis Presley with JD Sumner and the Stamps done this song and it is great. I love this song. Praise Jesus!!!! Bless His Holy Name!! 🙏👆❤❤❤🎶🎤🎶👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙌🙌🙌 I love Jesus so much! This song moves my Spirit.
Im glad you got that. Kris is not the best singer but maybe the best songwriter to come along. You sir got exactly what every believer gets, the chills of the message. Thanku.
I found that song sung by Percy Sledge! I love it have it dwld on my library and play it along with You Raise Me Up w/ Josh Groban, hundreds of others! Songs, are what spoke to me, raised me and helped me believe in myself!!! Music is nice but words speak louder!!! No one was there from grade school up to this very day! If it weren't for songs and God, I wouldn't be as strong and determined as I am today!!! Ask any/all my Dr.s, every one of them compliments my attitude and strength! I may not see it but as long as Dr.s do then songs will always be my mentor!!!
Can't remember first time I heard this song....had to be a kid, but loved it never the less. Such a simple beautifully written song about the most precious jem of the universe....JESUS 🤴🌬️🌈
Kris is one of the most prolific songwriters. Everything from Johnny Cash to Janis Joplin sang his songs!! I used to watch this program Country Music Reunion I think it was called on the RFD channel. So many great stories and performances!!
Kris Kristofferson, not only one of the best songwriters of his generation, but a Rhodes Scholar with a Phd in English Literature. He's an incredible talent. Saw him at the FOX in Atlanta early 80s. An incredibly genuine and humble man! God Bless him, and thanks Ty for broadcasting this. Btw My favorite Kristofferson song is Me and Bobby Magee!
I think God is like our Earthly parents. Just like when we were toddlers, your mama keeps telling you that the oven is hot, but you keep wanting to reach for it. Then she finally just let you touch it to make you understand, but she still there to pick you up when you fall. I think that's why God lets us do what we going to do until the time he takes over, like he did with Mr Kristofferson. And I think those prior experiences before God comes into your life makes you appreciate Him even more.
Jimmy Snow and his then wife Carol came to our church several times when I was young. I know exactly what KK is talking about. Jimmy Snow is a GREAT preacher. He preaches straight from his heart. A GREAT MAN OF GOD !!! FYI He was Elvis Presleys best friend. When Elvis was having problems with anything in his life Jimmy Snow was the first person there. Jimmy's father is Hank Snow he's a country music legend. His first wife was Carol Lee Cooper. Her parents are both country legends also Wilma Lee and Stony Cooper. Carol use to be a regular back up singer at the Opry. I'm sure she's probably retired by now. I use to love when they came to our church.
This came out in 1973 -- I was just out of school, getting in a bit of trouble, and this one really spoke to me. It didn't change anything big time, but nudged my feet back Home. : )
One of my favorite songs by him is "Sunday Morning Coming Down". It was one of his first hits, and perhaps could even be a glimpse of the way his life was before he wrote "Why Me Lord".
I love this song, it's maybe my favorite Kristofferson song, followed closely by "Take the ribbon from your hair" done as a duet with his wife Rita Coolidge.
Kris wrote "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down" which might suggest a need for the Lord. Johnny Cash recorded the song and it was a #1 country hit. It also spawned a tale of country music lore about Kris landing an Army Reserve helicopter on Johnny's lawn to give him a tape of Sunday Mornin' and "Me and Bobby McGee".
I'm with everyone else: Sunday Morning Coming Down. It's THE epitome of Kris Kristopherson's writing career. Lost dreams and drowned pain and bittersweet memories that made him wonder where it all went wrong, with undertones supplying the answer in a muted way as if addressing it overtly were too painful to consider.
His testimony helped me so much to believe again. Id had so much bad to happen in my life that I'd almost lost my faith in a God who delivered me from drugs 40 years ago.. this man's testimony lifted my heart. Thank you for sharing. Yes his testimony sold it for me.
I love this song so much and especially this version for the same reason you do. Janie Fricke (backing singer for this song) and Charlie Rich sing another one of my favourites, on my knees. Love the reaction.
Superstars on stage. Kris K is a genius and a Rhodes scholar and a poet of reknown. Couldn’t sing a lick but he wrote most of the songs from my youth. Check him out. Thanks kid.
Kris is one of my favorites. A favorite song of his for me is 'Sunday Morning Coming Down': On a Sunday morning sidewalk I'm wishing Lord that I was stoned 'Cause there's something in a Sunday That makes a body feel alone…
This was my Mother's favorite song! We played it for her at her funeral, my Mom was such a beautiful soul, my life goal is to be as much like her as I can possibly be. This song always makes me smile and cry at the same time.
This is one of those songs that truly hits me right in the feels. It si one of those congs that connects. Better known as a songwriter than a singer (and occasional actor), some of his best known compositions: "Me and Bobby McGee (Janis Joplin), "SUnday Morning Coming Down" Johnny Cash. Exceptionally talented individual.
If you want to reach deep into Country Gospel then look up The McKamey's, The Singing Cookes, The Statler Brothers, The Isaacs, The Crabb Family, Florida Boys, Primitive Quartet, The Hinsons etc. There are so many! OOOH! "I Could Go Free," by The Hinsons is by far one of the greatest gospel songs ever! Kinny Hinson was a very admirable man!
Kris was a determined songwriter who would not be denied. He landed a helicopter in Johnny Cash's yard one morning in order to get him to listen to a song called "Sunday Morning Coming Down."
I have always been a fan. I am also a fan of BJ Thomas (who was sitting behind Kris and Willie.) BJ came out with a song written by Hank Williams Sr. called "I'm so lonesome I could cry". BJ's version came out when I was still languishing in pain. Even though I felt alone, this song helped me realize that I was not alone. Someone else out there knew how I felt. I believe it was one of God's many was of comforting me.
Kris Kristofferson also used to be a male lead movie star. He and Barbara Streistand did a version of "A Star is Born." It had an excellent soundtrack album.
When I first heard this song by Kris Kristofferson I found myself weaping uncontrollably. What an amazingly touching testimony! And the song is soul-reaching. I've sung along with him many times with this song and it feels like I'm cleansed each time!
There is so MUCH country music talent in this room! They're older here, but these are all among the "Greats" who made the Golden Era of country music what it was in the 60s and 70s, and into the early 80s. Willie Nelson (with his famous busted guitar named "Trigger"), and Kris were two of the Highwayman supergroup, who along with Waylon Jennings and Johnny Cash sang the Highwayman song that (I think) you reacted to awhile back. Willie is of course known for an absolute ton of great songs, such as "On The Road Again" and "Whiskey River (take my mind)". Crystal Gayle in the far back left is the younger sister of Loretta Lynn the First Lady of Country Music (along with Tammy Wynette), who passed away recently. Crystal Gayle had a LOT of great songs in the 70s and 80s. Bobby Bare, on the right side, is...indescribably great. An awesome singer of awesome story songs...like Willie, too numerous to mention. The rest are great too of course. This Live version is awesome, and is in its own way just as good as the studio version. 👌😊 Thanks for doing this one!
Great testimony I had forgotten. The song again was amazing too. I first heard him sing with Barbra Streisand. Even though the Lord was chasing after me, I ran from Him for 3 weeks until I just gave in knowing I needed Him in my life at the time. I'm so glad I reached out to Him. The best day of my life.
Excellent. I had a similar experience with the altar call. No way was I going down there when I found myself already walking down to the altar. Beautiful.
Yes I absolutely love this song and had asked you many times to do it!This video of the story behind the song just recently became available. He does a wonderful version of it a recent version with him and a few other country singers on stage and Elvis does a beautiful version of it as well. You are obviously don't know who Khris Kristofferson is. He is a phenomenal songwriter-- he was really big in the seventies and he had a severe drug and alcohol problem. This is when he went sober. And I'll never forget I was probably about 12 or 13 years old watching the Grammys I believe it was and he was one of the presenters. He came on stage and the whole audience and I'm sure even the home audience because it included me gasped because he looked so different in a good way! He had clearly cleaned himself up he was sober he just did not look as ragged and rugged and down trodden and been as he had previously. It's I remember correctly just based on the way he looked the audience gave him a standing ovation because they didn't also knew what that meant. And that was when he had become sober and this story is what is behind it. it's interesting when I 1st heard the story I put it together with that appearance on the grammys because I'll never forget that when he came on stage even though I was only 13 years old. He was also married to Rita Coolidge who is a singer also from the seventies mainly is when she was popular but she has a most beautiful voice. You should just look her up in literature few of her songs. Cordiaz gorgeous voice very underrated. They divorce because of his issues with drugs now cahal by they are still close friends.
Hey Ty, when the camera pans away from Chris while he’s singing, the lady with the short blonde hair that they show looking back at chris (5:10) is Lorrie Morgan. She is a great singer herself and was married to Keith Whitley when he passed away. Keith is one of the country singers that you’ve LOVED!!!
KK is in the Country music Hall of fame and Songwriters Hall of fame. He's written so many HUGE hits probably half of the country stars from the past 50 years had atleast one big hit from him if not more. Also superstars like Janis Joplin had a very big hit...Me and Bobby Mcgee written by him. I'm sure other rock and pop stars have recorded his music but many more country artist's have.
That song has always brought me to tears, as it seems he expresses my own feelings toward God in the lyrics. One song that I would love to get your reaction to is Bob Carlisle's Butterfly Kisses. For personal reasons it always tore my heart out to hear it.
Was soooo happy to see Kris get to this point. He’s not been a “good guy” for part of his life but I’ve always seen there’s more to him. He doesn’t sing great even though I love his singing but has written most of the songs we know in many genres over the past 40 years.
I love this song... I recently turned my life over to the Lord and then found this song on TH-cam and it just spoke to me and now just got to find a way to sing it in church.
I realy liked this one from the first time I head it. A time when I was away from the LOd myself, and thought I had no chance to go to heaven, because 0f some teachings I had from the church i stoped going to. But always loved God. You are right, God can get your attention, He showed me that it was not about a church, it was about having a relationship with him, regardless of what Christian church I would attend, Some years latter, I gave my life to Christ, I cannot tell you how I felt when I prayed for him to come into my heart. I was like a teen in love with Jesus. Not that anyone has to ( feel) something we are all different. My only regret is that I did not know sooner, did it sooner.
I remember when this song came out I was about 8 yrs old and it still is one of my favorite songs of all times

@@wendel5520 that's right!! Thank you for the correction. Wasn't his dad a colonel ?
@@wendel5520 Never mind he was a Major General, just googled it. :)
Amen to Kris Kristofferson being a renaissance man.

Sunday Morning Coming Down, sung by Johnny Cash, if you've ever been lonely.

Me and Bobby McGee', sung by Janis Joplin, if you've ever regretted the one that got away.

One of my favorite songs. Makes me cry thinking about God's grace and my thankfulness for it. His song is simple, heartfelt and beautiful. Kris is very famous for being a great singer and songwriter, and some acting too. Look him up, he's an interesting guy.
One of my all time favorite gospel songs. That song IS his testimony.
And it's a song that could be ours too.
The testimony is beautiful and so is the song....thanks God is great
What do Elvis, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis, Roy Clark, Charley Rich, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, the Oak Ridge Boys, Conway Twitty, Tanya Tucker, Mickey Gilley, Travis Tritt, Donna Fargo, Carroll Baker, Christy Lane, CeCe Winans and Wanda Jackson all have in common? Listen to Jason Crabb's version. It is beautiful!
Love this song.. Heartfelt and very moving.
Kris Kristofferson has been around doing Country songs for a long time. This is a good true testimony of his coming to Jesus. Amen!
Must react to Sunday morning coming down. Another great song by him.
Yes!
And the story as to how he actually got Johnny to listen to it. The man actually landed a helicopter in Johnny's front yard!
I completely agree. Listen to Sunday Morning Coming Down. I wish you had listened to it before this one. It's sort of a prequel to this song, in my opinion. The lyrics are amazing. The heartfelt story is amazing.
“ It's sort of a prequel to this song, “. - Dave Morrison
I agree.
Yes, please
Kris Kristofferson,
" Sunday Morning coming down ". Another great song by Kris Kristofferson. Johnny Cash sings it also.

I love Kris, he is a great song writer.
It has been said that the Grace of God is often most
cherished by those who have walked the farthest from its light
I love hear Elvis cover this song. Both versions are beautiful

Love this man and his songs He is a great artist. People don't like his voice but I love all this man has written band sung. Him and Chash love God.
Most moving song from a man who wrote the best songs of all time, And only he does them proper justice

Youre correct about the testimony. Love the backstories of hymns.
This song always brings tears, because, I was lost and now I'm found.🙏❤️🙏🙏❤️🙏

Superstars on stage. Kris K is a genius and a Rhodes scholar and a poet of reknown. Couldn’t sing a lick but he wrote most of the songs from my youth. Check him out. Thanks kid.
Kris is one of my favorites. A favorite song of his for me is 'Sunday Morning Coming Down':
On a Sunday morning sidewalk
I'm wishing Lord that I was stoned
'Cause there's something in a Sunday
That makes a body feel alone…
this song opens my heart to Jesus every time...I am so blessed that he loves me...without conditions..and I love Jesus
Yay! Finally you're going to react to Why Me Lord 😀👍 love this song 💚
Have you ever reviewed any Marty Robbins? El Paso, El Paso City, Big Iron, My Woman My Woman My Wife are all excellent songs of his.
A sincere song written by a talent that was so lost for so many years. Yes, he is one of the greatest song writers ever!!
Kris Kristofferson wrote myself Sunday morning coming down try that one it was my dad's favorite song and it's my favorite song to it says so much
Kris wrote a bunch of songs that were huge hits for other artists, but this is the only #1 hit that he wrote and recorded himself!
This testimony and song brought me to tears, and I saved this video to replay and replay.
When I first heard this song by Kris Kristofferson I found myself weaping uncontrollably. What an amazingly touching testimony! And the song is soul-reaching. I've sung along with him many times with this song and it feels like I'm cleansed each time!
My mother's favorite gospel song. I still know the words.
Thanks for doing this one!
I love Crystal Gayle Don't it Make My Brown Eyes Blue!! Great memories!!!!
My favorite gospel song!
I think that is my favorite song ever!!! Love Kris!
My mom loved this one, too. She did and always will have deep faith.
Kris Kristofferson To Beat the Devil
I heard this on the radio in the 80s loved it from day one
Kristofferson's. "Sunday Morning Coming Down" is a really great song.
I love this song so beautiful
One of my very favorite songs
KK is in the Country music Hall of fame and Songwriters Hall of fame. He's written so many HUGE hits probably half of the country stars from the past 50 years had atleast one big hit from him if not more. Also superstars like Janis Joplin had a very big hit...Me and Bobby Mcgee written by him. I'm sure other rock and pop stars have recorded his music but many more country artist's have.
Every single time I hear this song it makes me cry. I'm so glad Chris got saved he's wrote some awesome songs for people
That song has always brought me to tears, as it seems he expresses my own feelings toward God in the lyrics.
One song that I would love to get your reaction to is Bob Carlisle's Butterfly Kisses. For personal reasons it always tore my heart out to hear it.
He has written a lot of beautiful songs.
God always puts someone in my way, to help them, or me. Some how the more you help others, the more it seems you help yourself.💗🙏
This is a Universal Law.
Or Kris Kristofferson singing Sunday Morning Comming Down
Praise God!
Krisofferson. Legend
