I think it's an interesting little crossover... Over the past couple of days I've gotten review notifications on the Kick but haven't watched them because I was waiting on this review first, glad I did!
A couple of takeaways. 1. The v motion grille looks like a u 2. The paint combos are cool I guess 3. Given how nissans are given away I’d imagine a few k off the sticker would make these a decent deal. 4. Girls will love it. 5. No sunroof kinda sucks. 6. Terrible name.
After watching several reviews of Kicks, yours is the only one that makes me feel positive about this vehicle. Maybe a lightly used second car for me in future.
Natt K. Probably because it's awful and Tom is never negative. Sad that you hunt for one positive review to reinforce your god awful vehicle. Hopefully it breaks so you don't have to drive it long
Being on a budget, I would consider the car as a replacement for my 5 year old Escape. Good MPG, enough room for my wheelchair, decent standard equipment, etc.
Nice review, but still not convincing enough for me to consider Nissan cars, which cuts a lot of corners in order to bring down the price. When cheap compares to cheap I would think of others brands instead. I just can't think of a worse brand other than Mitsubishi.
Well a new 2018 370z is the same as a 2010 370z so any review btwn now and then should give you the info you're looking for...sad Nissan claiming they develop the GT-R cause they're about technology and innovation, yet neglect the more affordable sports car and then wonder why sales are super low
I wish you had talked more about working with Alex, he's my other favorite Channel, aside from Scotty. I wish you two had like a segment just talkin about your conversation about vehicles :)
I have to ask, how did you get a tachometer to show up on the display?!? I was given a Kicks S model as a rental while my Versa Note was getting it's 35k mile maintenance done and tried searching through the settings and could not find a way to place a tach there. I was impressed with how boomy the base stereo sounded. A nice ride overall but seemed a stretch to call it a crossover since it's ride height seemed not much higher than my Versa Note.
How does it handle radiation? I need a car that doesn't get all fucky when around radioactivity...both of my houses are near leaky nuclear reactors lol
I'll argue that if you ask that question to 10 people you'll get 10 different answers. In the end, it doesn't matter what it's called, only that it works for the buyer.
QUESTION: I have seen a lot of videos about the Kicks but haven't heard anything about a Heated Steering Wheel. I really need a heated steering wheel, can someone tell me if it has that feature or not? thanks
Personally I prefer them. Never had any issues with drum brakes on my cars. On the other hand, virtually every car I've owned that had discs in the rear has had issues...
Subaru Crosstrek would also compete with this too? albeit slightly more expensive but with AWD. Still slow as hell as all these small crossovers seem to be though.
Hey guys joke time, believe if you want in Brazil this is a luxury car, we pay at least 90.000 for this compact crossover, and the costs of ownership, not even worth mentioning, like I always say, if you like cars Brazil is hell.
Tom, thanks for the review. For the same cash, I'd go Honda Fit EX (6spd) or KIA Soul+. I think you are being too kind to this vehicle. Sure, you were invited to a Nissan press event, and its nice to be kind to the host, but it is this kind of "fluff" in the auto market that makes kids (and adults) not interested in cars. Other than the color combo thingy, and the multiple USB ports, the Kicks is just one more example of Nissan junk (if junk is to harsh, how about mediocrity). They say they are a company of innovation; however, their models languish for years w/o notable updates or advancements (see 370z). In a bit of irony, they aren't afraid to tweak and bulk up their $100k+ GT-R, as if everyone can afford one and they are flying off the showroom floor. We test drove a '16/'17 Rogue-S, and were not really impressed and were't going to be forced to spend thousands more just to get more do-dads on the lackluster interior but put up w/the same engine/driveline. Nissan cars are not competitive and need HUGE discounts to draw people in from other brands that do better because they offer a better product. May the new Renault money will help Nissan get back in the game...maybe....
This car is what it is, something affordable with a dash of personalization, something I made clear. I don't have to rant when saying it has drum brakes in the back, does 0-60 in 10 seconds and has a CVT with an elastic dynamic. It's just not my style on either the regular reviews or on events. What's great about the market is you don't have to buy one.
Even though it isn't a GT-R or a Fairlady Z, I have no doubt that Nissan will make a Nismo version of this. But I'd doubt they'd make it into something like the Juke R, which had the GT-R's powertrain and chassis.
A 2.0L turbo would add more cost. That's reserved for the Infiniti lineup. The Juke's 1.6L turbo would have been fine, and easier to fit under the small hood.
Not the "2.0L" VCS (I put it in quotation marks 'cause the system changes the displacement size of the pistons along with the compression, so it's not always it's TRUE DISPLACEMENT), but a regular ICE 2.0L. The Int'l Juke NisMo had a much larger VR T-3.8L V6, so a large I4 would fit in a "Kicks NisMo" better and with less adaptations than the V6 on a Juke NisMo. Also the US-spec Juke NisMo (w/that T-1.6L) only + ~ 30hp over the regular US-spec one, to ~ 215hp.The international one had the VR NA-3.8L instead.
Sir, I agree with you, I would buy it. I did mention the Juke R, which has the GT-R's 3.8L twin turbo V6, so I'm aware that it can fit. I did not say Nissan can't put the 3.8L in the Kicks, just that if Nissan is too cheap to put in the 1.6L (like the Versa Nismo), what makes you think they'll use 2.0L from the QX30 or QX50?
Neither 2.0L. The one in the Q30 / QX30 is from Mercedes (as in CLA250 / GLA250), which AMG did over-outputted to 375hp (they won't give that one, I'm very sure of it) and the one in the QX50 and Altima is the VCS "2.0L". I would rather see either modernizing something from their past or stretch the Juke's / Sentra's (Turbo and NisMo) to 2.0L. A well tuned version of that one can approach 300hp with today's NisMo technology.
People always bitch about budget cars. Of course it doesn't have great features and huge power, it's CHEAP. It's just a jacked-up Versa which is the cheapest car on the market.
Kick this to the curb. My genetic Treefrog would laugh at this. When the frog dies, I will either upgrade to a truck, a rogue or rav4. Unless something comes along that blasts everything out of the water. Till then, the Bluetooth control led lights I’ve glued to the under side of the dash and led headlights will make my “frog” the party freak at work
Don't laugh, but with fuel efficiency starting at 31 MPG city there's more than a few youngsters that will bite for this. Others can keep going for other fish...
Now that Toyota is giving an ABOUT FACE on this aspect (Corolla Hatchback is getting a NA-166hp engine standard in '19) expect Nissan to consider it...
The reason Nissan didn't use the name in US; try to pronounce it, worse to spell it (but they didn't mind Canadians as they use the other name for them).
Nissan are cheap and have a lot of issues. I will never purchase a mid to high end model. However, the kicks has the looks and budget price range. I recommend everyone buys a extended warranty.

Juke FWD Versa. Would take death over this slow turd. Nissan is not Toyota. They do not have the built in buyers who only buy Toyota for there lifetime and never leave the Toyota showroom. Then there is the fem Kia Soul with a stout 1.6L turbo engine, manual transmission option or a dct, even has an EV option. The Kick is none of those things
f181234 except you could replace all those things for $1000. Which would theoretically bring you up to 4k, which is just what your down payment would be on the shitty Nissan
Tom + Alex = the two best (by a mile) in the biz!!!
Let's put a "Like" and watch the video later.
That's how I watch all your videos Tom, they deserve to be watched like this.
I love the Nissan kicks very very much. I went to drive it
I think it's an interesting little crossover... Over the past couple of days I've gotten review notifications on the Kick but haven't watched them because I was waiting on this review first, glad I did!

I actually really like this vehicle :)
The engine has no Kicks.😂
LOL
That explains why it’s under $24,000 for the highest trim.
best gas mileage lol
Thank you, I think this will replace my matrix very well, just wish the 2018 "used" one I found was blue n not grey
Alex taking some notes.... Respect.
Being on a budget, I would consider the car as a replacement for my 5 year old Escape. Good MPG, enough room for my wheelchair, decent standard equipment, etc.
Look at Alex studiously taking notes.
Nice review, but still not convincing enough for me to consider Nissan cars, which cuts a lot of corners in order to bring down the price. When cheap compares to cheap I would think of others brands instead. I just can't think of a worse brand other than Mitsubishi.
Right on!
Right Lane Hog What do you know....even Mitsubishi has now joined the Nissan Renault alliance. May God helps them.
It is not much to brag about but other than the Mirage, I would choose a Mitsubishi over the other two members of the alliance.
LOVE my kicks. great first car.
Give us a review on the Z car. That would be interesting
I would love to get my hands on that car. I've never driven one.
Driven Car Reviews do it!
Well a new 2018 370z is the same as a 2010 370z so any review btwn now and then should give you the info you're looking for...sad Nissan claiming they develop the GT-R cause they're about technology and innovation, yet neglect the more affordable sports car and then wonder why sales are super low
He's probably not talking about any freakin' 370Z, he was probably talking about the mid '90s Z32 300ZX parked on the lot.
I wish you had talked more about working with Alex, he's my other favorite Channel, aside from Scotty. I wish you two had like a segment just talkin about your conversation about vehicles :)
Alex is a great guy but it's really about the car.
I agree with you on the Z car! Beaut.
That pic of you with Alex? That musta been your "it's a CVT!" look 😖
Ahh, San Diego. Nice place.
I have to ask, how did you get a tachometer to show up on the display?!? Isn't this just a Versa Note wearing heels?
I agree. i got a versa note, and it just looks taller versa note.
Your advice to buyers should be "avoid these, and get a good 1-2 year old vehicle that will be safer, perform better, and last longer.
Drum brakes in 2018? That's a nope.
emanny009 ?
After seeing this.. I think I’d rather get an HRV or Soul or CX3
Looks like a small Buick....You would need to hit the key alarm to find it in a parking lot...bring back the Juke!
It is kinda popular here in Mexico where it launched a couple years ago
Is these parts cost a lot to get fix
I agree re the Z car - one of the all time great vehicle designs!
Roof lining is WHAT??!!😱😱😱
Fall out boy wants there intro back
Looks like the rogue. I luv the juke
It kinda reminds me of a Volvo XC40 in the white body paint and black roof...
Ricky K with no engine, no interior, no AWD, no speed, no luxury, and no style. Other than that, yeah exactly the same as the Volvo
They really slice the segments thin these days. How is this better than a Rogue Sport?
How does it handle radiation? I need a car that doesn't get all fucky when around radioactivity...both of my houses are near leaky nuclear reactors lol
Does awd make it a cross over? Or does the option
My rav4 doesn’t have awd but it’s an option soooo where does the line get drawn?
I'll argue that if you ask that question to 10 people you'll get 10 different answers. In the end, it doesn't matter what it's called, only that it works for the buyer.
Driven Car Reviews valid point!
You and Alex are from the best
ElHussain Gamal Savagegeese
QUESTION: I have seen a lot of videos about the Kicks but haven't heard anything about a Heated Steering Wheel. I really need a heated steering wheel, can someone tell me if it has that feature or not? thanks
Yhe SR version does.
Drum brakes?
daryl g I winced
daryl g they're still a thing?
Personally I prefer them. Never had any issues with drum brakes on my cars. On the other hand, virtually every car I've owned that had discs in the rear has had issues...
Subaru Crosstrek would also compete with this too? albeit slightly more expensive but with AWD. Still slow as hell as all these small crossovers seem to be though.
Since Crosstrek is standard with all-wheel drive I think it attracts a different buyer.
This car is good in the snow ?
probably not. it doesn’t even offer all wheel drive
Hey guys joke time, believe if you want in Brazil this is a luxury car, we pay at least 90.000 for this compact crossover, and the costs of ownership, not even worth mentioning, like I always say, if you like cars Brazil is hell.
This is EXACTLY what ISOLATIONISM causes, just a WARNING...
Cx-3 does the automatic breaking standard tho
Id rather drive a trash can
Royhan the can would be quicker too
Tom, thanks for the review. For the same cash, I'd go Honda Fit EX (6spd) or KIA Soul+. I think you are being too kind to this vehicle. Juke NISMO was a great car for the money --- poorly marketed!!!
I like Nissan kicks
Wait, is that a Genuine Mouse Fur Headliner?
Hard to know, they're getting so good at it these days.
Are you still in San Diego?
No
Dang
Are nissan good cars?
Nissan seems to try wayyyyy to hard to market to young folks. They're broke, they aren't going to spend money on custom colors
People always bitch about budget cars. Of course it doesn't have great features and huge power, it's CHEAP. It's just a jacked-up Versa which is the cheapest car on the market.
sounds like a good rip off for clueless buyers
Leonis Bacher precisely. Sad
clueless people is what nissan specializes in. and people with shit credit.
Nissan all I want to know is, where is the new Z-car?
Mouse fur head-liner? Take thee to a tanery!
I'll give Nissan/Renault/Mitsubishi credit for offering this with custom paint choices. Other than that..........
Nissan did what with their SV? Oh, it's called the kicks.
3:27 Anybody wanna guess what's under the blue tarp?
everyone knows.
Nissan loves CVT yet!
The fact that’s it’s only fwd makes me not buy
Kick this to the curb. My genetic Treefrog would laugh at this. When the frog dies, I will either upgrade to a truck, a rogue or rav4. ehmm, Cute Car, i guess..... girly car
TJ Jones which explains why it's so bad. Women buy anything with ride height. Sad
1:10 Alex on Autos cameo
Navigation....not available!!!!
Nissan, I understand there is a budget for design, but dang make it desirable.
A Yates which are better looking CUVs in its class?
Can you do another Buick review PLEASE!
Not sure which one I would do. I've kind of done them all.
Driven Car Reviews the 2019 Envision
Targeted a younger generation with a CVT! ...... YAY!!!!!
Don't laugh, but with fuel efficiency starting at 31 MPG city there's more than a few youngsters that will bite for this. Others can keep going for other fish...
Nissan's moto for horsepower is "How low can you go?".... oh dear.
Now that Toyota is giving an ABOUT FACE on this aspect (Corolla Hatchback is getting a NA-166hp engine standard in '19) expect Nissan to consider it...
Let's hope so...
kicks is the worst name yet.
Bryan T Cadenza is pretty bad
Qashqai
The Qashqai in the US is the Rogue Sport.
The reason Nissan didn't use the name in US; try to pronounce it, worse to spell it (but they didn't mind Canadians as they use the other name for them).
6:48 - You or “Evil Twin”?
I bought 2019 Kicks to replace my old Sentra.
Lol in my country you just buy a US$7,500 Nissan Micra if you want a new budget car
Haha, true. The Micra is not offered in the U.S. It could never pass crash test requirements.
alliejr I'm sure that is very true. The ironic part to all this is that I live in Canada haha
Alex on Autos?
Akil Hodge start that intro music
Nissan are cheap and have a lot of issues. I will never purchase a mid to high end model. However, the kicks has the looks and budget price range. I recommend everyone buys a extended warranty.
Meh....
Needs AWD and better engine!
Unfortunately, it’s the end of the Juke.
Did you buy a Juke Billy?
I have a friend who has one. She replaced a Mercedes ML-Class for it. (How ‘bout that?)
Billy Sou juke is one ugly car!
Billy Sou Finally
The Juke is still being produced but no longer in the Americas.
You can still buy a new car with drum brakes?!
Many still have them.
wow automatic emergency braking, i love my car stopping dead when someone cuts me off close
Too bad because it doesn't work that way.
kicks the car?..... About DASH name
Damn, Alex looks weird with no glasses!
Well, it was a particularly bad photo of the both of us. I didn't even know he had the Polaroid
The front of that thing looks awful :/
Looks like a chinese copy of the XC40.
Uh, Volvo is a subsidiary of Geely Holding Group, a Chinese company who bought them from Ford in 2010.
R A Ironically the XC40 is based on a Geely platform.

Guess we’ll see for sure when they start selling the redesigned 2019 Altima.
