It’s the reason they look like this the fluid and wacky animations can appear as they look like. While yes character design could use some improvement a really well designed character moving in wacky animations wouldn’t appear as normal it would be weird which is why many well deep designed characters are stiff most of the time more or less. Either way still very fluid design imo 8.5/10 for me.
There’s a difference between style and animation. The style in, my opinion, is lame. It’s way too simple, makes the characters look much lamer, and it just has the whole bean head style most shows have nowadays. The animation however is absolutely incredible and is really well done. The style has to be the first thing many people think of when it comes to the “cal arts style” including me I just don’t like calling it that because it’s just insulting a school for no reason.
I think it's funny, okay the design could've been better but I do so love the action, the slapstick and one-liners. The original will always be amazing, but just because I'm a fan doesn't mean I can't poke fun at it :)
I lean towards agreeing, but it seems like a deeper problem, in that the characters don't act like themselves as we know them from the original, and the style just adds to that. Same reason the overly-realistic earlier reboot felt so off. If only they could have taken the seriousness and attention to lore from the earlier one and put this level of heart and effort into the action, while keeping the cast in-character.

@@parsleyisthicc *sighs* thats just an opinion. Not much of a critique either. The style is in service to they type of animation they were going for. They are strong character designs that pair so perfectly with the over the top bombastic action style. I think it looks great. The writing is my biggest complaint. From an animation standpoint its REALLY strong. But it was written by animators so I see a lot of area for improvement there. But the vocal performances are really good. Liono, mummra, panthro, jaga, the mutants. All very very strong vocal performances. The jaga in this version is the voice of the original liono, and the king from the 2011 show. This performance in thundercats roar is really fun and silly. Now hes been in all three versions. super cool. It REALLY doesn't look horrible. Pretty much any animator would agree its a well animated show. One example of that is "Butch Hartman" of fairly odd parents. He took a brief look at it over on his channel before it came out. Its not trying to be "COOL" like the other too series. And its not simply trying to be silly like Teen Titans Go. Thunder Cats roar is a story board and animation driven show. The action is where It shines the most. The rubbery style and extreme use of exaggerated movement is all in service to telling impossible stories and having character do impossible things. The showdown of Pantro vs Vultureman at end of episode "Panthro Plagiarized" Is one of my favorites and really showcaces the style very well. You couldn't really have a fight like that in either of the other two. Its WAY over the top. Beautifully animated. Very fun. People talk about the 2011 one like its so amazing. Its fine. But its really not all that great. Its clunky as hell and the action never really tries to impress. Is mainly just cool looking characters and heavy handed story telling. Some of the action scenes are almost laughable in how slow and clunky the action is considering how much they build up the events. At the end of the two part episode "Trials of Lion-O: Episode 2" The thundercats reunite to assault mumm ra and free all the enlsaved animal races of the galaxy or what ever. But the actual ACTION SCENE is so slow and clunky. The whole thing is over in no time. It really nothing special. Its just animators animating the story boards the way they were provided. The original series has the best theme song and title sequence. Really strong animation even today. The people that animated the titles went on to be some of the best in the industry. But the rest of the show is just kind of meh, the action never lives up to the title sequence. But that was never the goal. Its a product of its time. Its fine and interesting to look at and see how it effected the industry.
I love how it looks like it came out of someone's notebook from freshman year of highschool when they're just getting started making their own style and fanart.
The designs really still bother me a lot and I'm usually very open-minded about this stuff but I can appreciate the animation at points. The characterization?...Never watched the original so...not sure. But the character dialogue? Definitely too loud and consistent. It's like they always have to talk.
Entidade 302 I think O.K. K.O.! had it’s own charm and value. Since this Thundercats is a “reboot” I’m assuming that people judge not just by the show’s own value, but also the values and comparisons to the original. Just like with Teen Titans Go!, the show will suffer some impact because it’s not a “new story or plot” like the originals and instead just a “fart gag” type of cartoon. I do admit, however, that I really like the animation for this show! The animators are doing great!
Why does everyone who hate this show call it "lazy animation" when they actually just dislike the art style. Animators clearly put a lot of love and effort into this
I can understand why a lot of people hate this version of The Thundercats. The 1980s and 2011 Thundercats, had good stories with action. And this is what people want to see. But on this version, the ThunderCats were not acting funny . they were acting stupid.
The 2011 one had tons of effort. That is clear. But without any form of agency. The characters had little to no purpose in the story. That’s why it failed.
Plus even as it feels, ThunderCats Roar does try to pay respect to the original product besides trying to obviously be more of a comedy-adventure series
Say what you will about the show but you cannot bash the animation This show feels like those slice of life animes that just all of a sudden have a killer action scene with animation that absolutely destroys the animation of actual Combat anime

I liked the part where the wavefront from the sword uncovered that giant lizard. It's such a thoughtful non-sequitor that it got me giggling like mad. I'm still smiling!
And Max Mittelman showing he can do a more serious take on Lion-O when the situation in the show calls for it, like here when he was trying to call the Sword of Omens back to him after Lion-S broke Third Earth's orbit when she got it from him
This show had so much hate leveled at it and I don’t understand. It is one of my favorite toons since Over the Garden Wall. Voice acting top tier. Animation top shelf. The action blows my mind. The morals of the stories are generally simple but handled well. This show makes me happy in a way that I can’t describe except to say it gives me the total nostalgia for Saturday mornings with a large bowl of cereal. And the art? Simplicity is often the most elegant, this show pushed me to get back into drawing. Thanks Thundercats Roar. I hope the toxic fans didn’t win.

The original and the 2011 were cash grabs more than Thundercats roar. The original literally formulated to sell toys. Shipped overseas to be animated for too little money by people who have no interest in it. Animated by people who never even got to watch it! It was never released in japan! But people speak of it like its this precious amazing passion project by those who made it. But it truly wasn't.
There is Love, passion, and skill for days in ThunderCats Roar but people are choosing not to see it. Its super sad.
It truly hurts my soul to see that level of skill so thoughtlessly pushed to the ground and torn apart.
Its not just "some cartoon". They almost never are. Its the product of a multi year collaborative art project created by teams of skilled and educated people. And people just dismiss it at a glance; and even worse publicly mock it and the people who made it. That is a gross side of humanity.
@@doggodoggo3000 dude it looks horrible
Looking back at it, it's really good.
Literally ends cancelled in less than one year.
We'll see ya Thundercats movie
I LOVE THIS SERIES!
4:45 This scene is fucking epic in my opinion
The designs really still bother me a lot and I'm usually very open-minded about this stuff but I can appreciate the animation at points. The characterization?...Never watched the original so...not sure. But the character dialogue? Definitely too loud and consistent. It's like they always have to talk.
Yes, yet noone really bothered with mr. Gar constantly screaming to a kid or the inconciestencies of animation in the show ok k.o.

*wing* *wing*
Why do I love that so much?
ignoring the designs , along with the fluidity , the color palette ngl is fuckin gORGEOUS , like holy shit ??? that actually works so well ???
To be honest I actually enjoy it. But I respect people's opinions.
Why does everyone who hate this show call it "lazy animation" when they actually just dislike the art style. Animators clearly put a lot of love and effort into this
Mumm-Ra He's Huge And A Huge Sword Of Plun-Darr

I LOVE how the original music is used in this series.
So do I! It’s a nice homage.
I don’t understand the hate, this is great!
Cause it's not exactly the same as the old show...
Nostalgic 40 year olds hated the show for not being the same thing from the 80s
damnit, TCR, you're making it hard to hate you right now!
people can hate it all they want but the animation is objectively good
Na this ain't it chief
I can understand why a lot of people hate this version of The Thundercats. The 1980s and 2011 Thundercats, had good stories with action. And this is what people want to see. But on this version, the ThunderCats were not acting funny . they were acting stupid.
The 2011 one had tons of effort. That is clear. But without any form of agency. The characters had little to no purpose in the story. That’s why it failed.
Wow this looks like a lot of fun
I'll give the show credit, the Animation is very flowing
such smooth animation
I like the 2011 thudercats the most
Nice animation

1:29 THE THUNDERCATS ORIGINAL SONG
Beautifully drawn & animated.
unpopular opinion: the simpler designs allow for better fluidity animationwise
6:23 Thundercats Roar success in a nutshell
Best part of the show is that Snarf is actually cute
I would admit that their environmental animations r pretty gud..but eh the vibe for the show isnt my type
Not gonna lie. I kinda like this...
everyone owes the creators of this show a goddamn apology
No
Yes
No
Yes
Not at all the creators should give thundercat fans and apology for making this hot garbage
This is unironically good animation
Don't judge by character design, the simpler the design the more fluid the animation
Plus even as it feels, ThunderCats Roar does try to pay respect to the original product besides trying to obviously be more of a comedy-adventure series
Too bad it looks terrible
More rules to be bend
The issue is that the Nimatuon still terrible and the trama over all is super stupid
What fluid animation?
This show holds a special place in my heart because it has a perfect balance between action and humor, also it's not too over the top like TTG
Say what you will about the show but you cannot bash the animation
This show feels like those slice of life animes that just all of a sudden have a killer action scene with animation that absolutely destroys the animation of actual Combat anime
I'd love this a lot more if it wasn't ThunderCats. The 2011 version hits harder but I'll give this version props ... Its animation is very Fluid
Bro heck no don't give this show any props. You know good and we'll it doesn't come near close to the perfect good top notch 2011 Thunder Cat's reboot!

Just because it is overly fluid it does not mean is good.
Is not bad, but is not that big of a deal.
Yes, but it is garnering a lot more praise than I think anyone was expecting of it, and for that I have to applaud the show's team.
@@Natendo_Switch I've seen no praise at all.
On a positive note, people just forgot about them rather than keeping trashing them.

GOOD ANIMATION. Bless.
Awesome!!
This is me Mason talking, and that battle with ThunderCats robot and Mumm-Ra AMAZING and at 9:47 they defeated Mumm-Ra!! Good job Thunder Cats!
Crazy as this show can get, I do dig some ideas, like Cat's Lair as Thunder King Battle Lord to deal with Mumm-Ra after he's gotten so much bigger thanks to the power of the Sword of Plun-Darr.
I liked the part where the wavefront from the sword uncovered that giant lizard. It's such a thoughtful non-sequitor that it got me giggling like mad. I'm still smiling!
jak8714 And ties to what Snowman said about the Sparklemaw when we first met him.
The animation is a lot more fluid than I expected.
Interesting...
4:47 Ultimate Lion O
And Max Mittelman showing he can do a more serious take on Lion-O when the situation in the show calls for it, like here when he was trying to call the Sword of Omens back to him after Lion-S broke Third Earth's orbit when she got it from him
@@BryonYoungblood Thanks!!
the animation on here is amazingly great! 4 a thundercats roar
heyyyy i like it, why so hateres
Because they work for mum-ra
this show is so satisfying to watch:)
Wait, wasn’t this show supposed to be garbage? Why did I enjoy this so much XD
Because these aren't full episodes, and the title states that you are supposed to focus on animation, not writing or character design
But the writing made me laugh. The character design is definitely eh. But frankly, they did everything else right, it would seem.
Man, haven’t heard Flapjack in a looooong time XD
that Teen Titans GO episode aged so bad
This show had so much hate leveled at it and I don’t understand. It is one of my favorite toons since Over the Garden Wall. Voice acting top tier. Animation top shelf. The action blows my mind. The morals of the stories are generally simple but handled well. This show makes me happy in a way that I can’t describe except to say it gives me the total nostalgia for Saturday mornings with a large bowl of cereal. And the art? Simplicity is often the most elegant, this show pushed me to get back into drawing. Thanks Thundercats Roar. I hope the toxic fans didn’t win.
One reason I personally don’t like the show is them making fun of one of the dead voice actors from the original in the ttg crossover
The show ain't my cup of tea and all this fluid animation on these goofy designs and characters feel like a waste but that's just me.
man boy Y’mean that episode that was not made by the creative team of this show and wasn’t intended to be a full on crossover?
I think we can agree this show is silty better than Teen titans go...
Hell no
I like both personally…
Its comedy is good. I feel like the design is something that they should drastically change
I don't get why people hate it when cartoon network makes comedy shows out of already good shows.
Examples: Teen Titans Go, Powerpuff Girls(Although I admit that one had a couple of issues), This show here.
Thundercats Roar is the best ThunderCats
*laughs in 2011*
6:06 Mumm-Ra: How did you weighed so much?

*The new:* This one does not spark joy

@@KezzDaddy yeah had a feeling. Super excited for the second half of the season, pondering a new video to do before it comes back, not sure what. I'm so glad that the show ended up being fun.
@@KezzDaddy perhaps. A lot of my stuff was in response to the show. Maybe I should write what I want it to do
You guys actually like this show? It's an insult they made this you should watch the original TC a real kids show with excitement rivals to marvel and DC movies in its own right.
KezzDaddy I wonder how Roar would handle Lynx-O, Bengali, and Pumyra as well as the Lunattaks. I mean, we’ve seen plenty of classic ThunderCats char gets show up so why not more? I’d also like to see if Roar could adapt 2011 ThunderCats characters into the mix
Sad how this show would've been much better if it wasn't a Thundercats show lmao
I loved that
9:25-9:56 Thundercats!
Oh my, i'd really like this
I had an idea for a thundercats reimagining where lion-o is only like 2-3 years older than wilykit or wilycat. The rest of the thundercats are adults, lion o’s ark revolves around him being forced to grow up faster to be the new lord of the thundercats.
Also there are a couple hundred other survivor thunderans all living in a village next to
cat’s head as refugees. The thundercats are basically just a group of warriors protecting the new settlement on post apocalyptic earth.
Woooow they have the classic show's music, that's awesome
It’s cool and all but the character design for me the rest is ok
This version brings despair. Rather than joy
am i the only one who doesnt mind the character design?
I actually don't mind anything of this, but the fact that they're using the Thundercat characters.
Oh gods...
This is really funny and well animated to me, what the problem with it?
@@KezzDaddy for me it's ok but I don't like for the most part because it doesn't give the memories I had when I was a child and also it bored me a lot and I wasn't really excited about the reboot but at least I did laugh at some jokes although they are dry af but the delivery was funny and in my personal opinion I would rate it a 4/10 but I do have some respect for the writers , animators and production team but unfortunately I wouldn't watch it again because it's simply not my taste
Although I will remain a fan of the original and remake Thundercats, I’ll give Roar some credit the animation is growing on me, plus it reminds me of the animation styles of OK KO, so I’ll give it a fair chance
But when literally everything else sucks it still sucks in the end and isn't worth 5 seconds.
Why the hate? This is hilarious! It’s just a brilliant mickey take.
