  • National Disability Insurance Scheme Minister Bill Shorten has said a new NDIS regulation will enforce “what you can spend your NDIS money on, and what you can’t”.
Mr Shorten told Sky News Australia that “nothing changes” for the vast majority of participants and the NDIS support lists will “reflect clarity”.
Sex therapy, yoga therapy or cuddle therapy will no longer be able to be claimed on the NDIS.

My daughter's centre has drained all her funds.
Their idea of community participation was dragging her on their shopping trips or leaving her in one of the cinema/ darkrooms in their centre
By the time we found somewhere else, she hadn't gone to her centre for 8 months and they still took that funding.

@@rachael560 yep..its a scam. My mate does it as a carer, has his own clients so working as a solo trader, makes over 200k a year easy. If you know a friend that does it..tell them to get an abn, get them to client your daughter, they make more money while you know your daughter gets better care.

The camp didn't happen but my kid's funding paid for it

No more music therapy for somebody I know of two. Music therapy should never be part of the NDIS.

Umm grossly uneducated. Melodic Intonation Therapy (MIT) is an evidence-based treatment method that uses intoning (singing) to improve expressive language in people with aphasia. The approach takes advantage of the undamaged right hemisphere by engaging areas that are capable of language.

just paid $3800.00 for an Occupational Therapy (O.T.) assessment & report by an authorised & registered NDIS O.T. The report was full of spelling errors, typo's, false info, etc.(that would fail a Yr 8 English exam) & recommended activities & funding for items that are clearly banned by the NDIS. e.g. 3 hours/week with a registered sex worker. Clearly he was just after the $$$ for the assessment + report
Has not replied to any of my emails or phone calls regarding these blatant & egregious errors. A complete joke.

NDIS should go back to honest therapies. Shopping, going to doctors, helping around the house. These trips to wherever need to stop. It’s outrageous that there has been so much wasteful spending…thank you. About time.

Exactly 💯. It's NOT the participants fault that providers and others are using loop holes. Why was it allowed in the first place? These incomplete reports are just causing hate speech

Why is Shorten still around? Oh he wants to keep getting the big money before he gets even more money in his new job. That is the difference between Labor's right and left. One is in it for the money, the other for the power.

In hjs remaining time in parliament Bill Shorten needs to get all these NDIS providers registered and audited. Last time I heard only 7% were registered !!Now that is one way we can adjudicate his efficiency as a Minister of the Crown.

As the parent/carer of a participant I think the lists look fair in our particular situation. I think people need to remember to not take advantage of the NDIS opportunities and never take it for granted. Just because people enjoy doing something doesn’t mean it helps with their disability. NDIS is to improve your situation and not just to have fun and get what you can get.

I know of a support payments going to a person as carers for someone they may visit monthly at best. The supposed person needing care is hardly at home and fit as a fiddle recently climbing a ladder and going over a balcony on the second level of the unit block. Hardly someone with carers needs.

As a participant with MS who can only walk very short distances due to muscle weakness, footdrop and very low energy levels I an heartbroken by the heavy handed approach taken. My OT recommended an e-bike as it would allow me to visit friends without needing a support worker to drive me, it would also allow me to go on nature trails with friends and family. Before I became disabled walking in nature was my favourite thing to do and I miss having access so much. Since getting MS it is harder and harder to earn money and only the very necessities can be budgeted for. I was feeling so positive about finally getting the opportunity to get out in nature and be more independent. Of course everyone on the NDIS should not have access to e-bikes etc, but if it directly relates to your disability, and ultimately will save taxpayer money in the long-run it doesn't make sense to make it inaccessible.

I have marfan syndrome, multiple aortic surgeries, skeletal malformation, muscle deterioration, the list goes on. I dont drive and There's no busses where I am. I've been knocked back 3 times! They reckon I'm not doing enough to cure my friggin mutant gene that in My damn DNA!!! I'm sorry for Ya mate but any help would be better than none. 2 of My kids have marfans also, I have to pay for specialists, I'm only on carers for My 17yo that will finish soon.

@@pascalswager9100 That sounds soooo hard! I'm sorry to hear all you are having to deal with. I understand because our family did it alone since 2009. I did not want to be a burden. But I had to swallow my pride and ask for help in 2018. I was also knocked back. It is only since May this year that I was finally accepted. I am incredibly grateful for the help I get.
But to me it makes more sense to fund things that promote independence and will cost less in the long term. Instead they say no bike, but you can have a support worker drive you at $60 an hour .... that seems mental to me!
