Yeah thats not crazy at all. Every road ever built calls for a specific aggregate size for one reason or another. Especially for what is essentially an expensive road that needs to meet very specific tolerances. @@fraserwright9482
I'm a motorsport paramedic and one of my wonderful coworkers who often works at the Australian GP has told me that at some races (maybe all), if the helicopter is in use, sessions cannot go ahead. Once they have landed at hospital and have started handing over the patient, sessions may continue. I would love to work at the GP one day on the medical team, unfortunatly I just havne't had the chance yet
There is a similar rule about air fences - I remember when a (starting before MotoGP) MotoE bike punctured an air fence. No matter how small was the probability that another bike would hit the same spot in air fence, no one was allowed to ride till the air fence was replaced/fixed.
The gravel is what circuits struggle with a lot, because if they want to host both bikes and cars, they have to change the gravel greatly. Car series' ask for waves in the gravel traps whereas motorcycle series' ask for completely flat gravel traps, which is a lot of work. F1 made a change recently as they discovered flat traps were safer than the waves they had been using previously.
@endertraileri2007 They felt waves caused more friction to slow cars down, and they do in heavier classes like touring cars and truck racing, but they would throw the open wheelers in the air on occasion.
@ManicLiam not a single one track is built only to meets Moto GP regulations, they are built to host as many different racing categories as possible, Qatar Losail international track was modernized to meet F1 standards but it hosts many more categories, the next main event in that track is part of the World Endurance Championship. Also MotoGP races in the same track as F1 in Qatar
Awesome information, straight forward and straight to the point. Giving race fans just enough of an appreciation of what is involved and goes on behind the scenes 👍
Really good video! Phillip Island in Australia has recently had some major upgrades just for MotoGP including the track surface, gravel traps and lots of additional catch fencing (to the annoyance of myself and other photographers!) Thanks for the eye-opening video.
Wow! What incredible about of research for a TH-cam vid! Subscribed!.... Can you please make a vid of interesting reasons why BSB tracks can not be used for a GP race
A lot of specific materials from specific manufacturers. Makes me wonder how much of a kick back they have to give FIM to be put on their list as the "only" source for that specific material.
For information, mass and weight are not the same. Weight is the product of mass x acceleration and is therefore a Force. Using standard international units derived from the 3 dimensions of Mass, Length and Time, the standard units are kilogrammes, metres and seconds. Thus, if we are describing a force we use mass (kg) x acceleration (m/s/s....metres per second squared). Acceleration is the change in velocity (speed) over time and velocity is distance over time (metres per second), This is why acceleration as change in velocity over time, is stated as metres per second squared. However, what we (mistakenly) call weight, is actually mass. Weight is the Force (=mass x acceleration) which results where the acceleration is due to Gravity. The acceleration due to gravity is around 9.81 m/s/s. However, the product of mass x acc due to gravity uses the unit the NEWTON. Basically, if your body mass is 100kg then your weight is actually 981Newtons. In physics (mechanics) we call slowing down (retardation) or a retarding force. Friction, drag (retardation due to medium you are travelling in, like air or water) impact are all retarding forces. In your example, no bike and rider's combined mass is 300kg in MGP. Even Stock Superbike racers won't have a combined mass of 300kg! Sorry to be a pain, but excellent and informative video. Thank you for all the deep research you did.
yup, everytime I wonder why they don't use this! personally, I don't mind if someone 'butchers' a language, I actually find it very amusing and not disrespectful at all. I just don't like the stupid apology for doing so >.
Energy does not increase exponentially with velocity. That would be when a term is raised to the power of v. It's increasing quadratically, wich is a lot slower then exponentially.
It happens. The air fences do a good job of keeping riders alive. Before the air fences, though? Well, Daijiro Kato's crash is the reason MotoGP doesn't go to Suzuka any more. The bikes keep getting faster but the sport is safer than it has ever been.
Kazakhstan's track is hopefully being built with these rules in mind, so even in the state it's in, a lot of the track layout rules are being followed already. India underwent some significant changes at FIM/IRTA recommendation to make it safer for bikes.
I guess I don't see what there's to complain about. Driver safety and keeping the little fellars from wandering of the track to gain advantage do need to be addressed.
Requirement to run a rally event in WRC: does the country have any roads?
rally races are different story tbh
Idk man needing roads is a bit of a stretch.
@thekingofgamers3350 beat me to it :-]
They don't sound insane at all, very sane, tbh
The gravel size is no stretch. It's just a case of putting it through a sieve as that is what aggregate companies do.
Yah, but you have to get that click engagement these days :/
They certainly don’t come across as INSANE. That’s just silly.
I think the “insane” refers to the number of rules and the depth of them, not the reasoning behind them

If the helicopters aren't flying then they can't have a GP for safety purposes
Oh that's so interesting. I would like to be a male pornstar but didn't have the chance yet

Yeah that does sound like a lot of rules but I guess if it's for the safety of the Riders it's a good idea.

wait they used waves? i didnt even know, but wouldnt waves make cars jump on high speed? probably why they changed that.
@endertraileri2007 They felt waves caused more friction to slow cars down, and they do in heavier classes like touring cars and truck racing, but they would throw the open wheelers in the air on occasion.
I would expect nothing less
If you saw where we came from in the 70s you would completely understand
Then, they have to submit their plans to the FIA.

@ToddB563 every track needs to send approval permit to the FIA because who would build a track for only motorcycles?
@@C0lon0many tracks are built for the purpose of motorcycle racing only. Like Qatar which F1 races on.

@ bro you are not hearing me. It was built for MotoGP racing but that does not mean that it was supposed to be only for MotoGP.
Very interesting, I've always thought "I'd love to see GP bikes at Cadwell Park, that would be amazing"

A most excellent video Dan, thank you so very much. I may use this one, next time I see someone says it's expensive to go to Silverstone.
Great video! So much information here for new and long-time fans

How much to these rules overlap with FIA's track regulations?
Probably many
Today i remembered there is FIM Grading for the bike side or racing. I thought FIA does it for everyone
great video man

Is obvious that he just chat gpted all the physics and read it out
what is really INSANE is that he thinks that people are so stupid that he need to explain them middle school physics 101
This is great stuff Dan....
how about:
Tyre allowances etc... gosh these rules appear complicated.
This was very informative, I never know how many different rules were needed for each track.
10:33 minor typo in the word systems.
Good spot on the typo
Most of these are very sane. Very sensible rules to uphold safety and allow racing
I've been looking for this document, and its FIA equivalent, for a long time. Where did you find it? On another note, chapters would've been great

MotoGP bikes are too fast now. Imagine wiping out and there's not enough runoffs and you barrel roll into a wall.

This is nothing.. try and get an extension approved by your local council. 10x these rules
@7:44 ASBSorption? That’s some serious rules.
You should see the list for F1!!!
