Agree. Such height on elements. Her chest is always up on landings not barley making the flips as others often seem to do . I do like Komova as well but it’s a copycat of this and years later
My favorite beam routine of all time! Absolute perfection! That landing is insane... One of the best all around champions this gymnastics world has ever seen...
Definitely one of my all time favorite beam routines. The only real deductions I saw were poor positioning in the sheep jump and she seemed to have a little trouble on her full turn.
There were many gymnasts back in the "golden era" who were floatier. The Romanians seemed in particular to foster that quality. The first names to came to mind were Silivas, Comaneci, and Dobre.
@@fernlin-healy2174 I've seen basically every bit of publicly available gymnastics footage from 1928 to present. I'm referring to a very specific quality that Carly has, where she lands VERY lightly. Floaty probably isn't the right word. It's a special lightness. Sillivas, Comaneci, and Dobre were all amazing beam workers but did not have that cat-like "light" landing quality.
The dismount and standing arabian are amazing. I don't like her slow connections though (for example the front walkover to backflips). Also her split jump doesn't hit 180.
So the upside to not getting to see much from the Tokyo Olympics ( no TV, no cable company to sign in with on the NBC apps😰 ) turns out to be googling and watching awesome routines like this blast from the past from Carly Patterson! 🤩
This routine was extraordinary. Rather than spotlight what was wrong with it (which were very minute errors), we should e applauding how near perfect it was!
@@SG-mw1ey oh, definitely easier but I do just prefer the round off entry then the forward motion of the patterson. I do think the bhs bhs is more difficult but the round off has more risk of getting out of line.
I really like her on beam, not so much other events lol. She gets really good air time on this event, if only she had better extension on some skills it would be one of my favorites.
yup. look at nastia liukins floor routine and then ivana hong's floor routine. when they both perform the double front, ivana performs it the way it SHOULD look.
I just showed my 6 year old daughter this video because she has been watching dumb TH-cam videos of dumb TH-cam kids trying to do stuff like this. My kid needed to see (near) perfection.
They had really amazing gymnasts back in 2004. What happened since then. None of the gymnasts today are even close to their consistent and difficulty. It doesn't make sense.
Rawan Eewshah that's just my opinion. I just don't think she is as good as Mary Lou, Carly, Nastia and Shawn that's all. Nothing to do with the olympics.
Kae Kae Jones Ummm no. Aly Raisman is highly talented, but the only thing that makes her stand out other than her tumbling is her terrible form and artistry.
@Kevin Morales what are we 12? I didn't mean any disrespect. I'm just pointing out the errors that they most likely deducted. and of course I'm critical, it's a judged sport, if we gave everyone 10s we'd get nowhere.
i agree with your words, however lots of them i don't think the judges were looking for at the time for example complete splits in the split leaps, cowboying tucks, and clean legs whilst twisting were ignored for a long time (which you probably already know)
Here’s a thought- go do it yourself, then you can armchair criticize. Otherwise you’re just being hypocritical. It was still vastly better than Khorkina who was all over the place.
@@saragrant9749 haha there have since been some deleted comments or closed accounts but back in the day (10 years ago apparently) before you could actually @ reply to people there was a discussion about what the deductions were and some suggesting it should've been a 10 etc. so calm down
Ummm i don't know you, but that score is soooo ridiculous for me. That was at least a 9.9. I was gonna say it was a perfect 10, BUT she had only ONE minor balance check.

Please show Wevers this routine! So she can see what REAL gymnasts can do on beam -> somersaults!!!! That is a level of difficulty she can only dream about at night.
Pity she couldn’t do it so well for the team!! To me, this routine feels like it has a big dismount, but not much else in the middle! I feel like she hardly does anything on it!
squat on the standing arabian squat on the front tuck lack of rhythm with the connection of the front arial into the flic+layout pause on the front tuck connection to the sheep jump poor hip position in the sheep jump, not even creditable in my book everything else was great. she's fantastic but far from a 9.9
Oh dear - This routine is all about acrobatics and absolutely nothing else! Carly Patterson - contributing her part, to the total ruination of artistic gymnastics!
That started with the soviets and Romanians and their judges flat out cheating, that made the sport look more into the code and scoring elements higher so biased judging would not take precedence because “artistry” is subjective and varies from each judge’s taste but the codes and elements will always be the same and scored appropriately.
She is very light on her flips and very flighty. And that dismount still has me ShOOk
Carly was always so relaxed and soft on beam. Beautiful routine.
One of the most stunning beam routines I've ever seen!
I always thought Anna Pavlova's floor music in the background of this beam routine was extremely fitting. Very fierce and celebratory.
Her coach jumping for joy when she nailed the dismount 😊
Watching Carly Patterson doing a patterson is just magical.
The best beamer I have ever seen. Such confident, strong elements. She lands on air.
Agree. Such height on elements. Her chest is always up on landings not barley making the flips as others often seem to do . I do like Komova as well but it’s a copycat of this and years later
Her dismount is so fast and smooth it looks like CG.
My favorite beam routine of all time! Absolute perfection! That landing is insane... One of the best all around champions this gymnastics world has ever seen...
I'm not a big fan of Carly, but I love watching her on beam. There's something soothing about her performances on this event.
Why aren't you a big fan of Carly? She is awesome
pappysprite Yeah, she is, she just never really stood out to me. Other than her beam, like I said up there!
Same. I’ve never been a Carly Patterson beam, but its hard to look away from her on beam. She floats.
I have meet her In person and she is a very nice women and you should have no resent to dislike her
Miss Mary I absolutely love her. She totally kicked ass
I love how she has a dismount named after her 😍
She wasn't the first to do it though. Cory Fritzinger did it in the late 1990s.
By far my favorite beam routine. High difficulty & powerful. She landed the double front dismount !!!
She looks like she’s defying gravity, almost like she’s hovering. Amazing.
To me, the most beautiful gymnast of all times.
questo esercizio è allucinante,troppo perfetto!
Definitely one of my all time favorite beam routines. The only real deductions I saw were poor positioning in the sheep jump and she seemed to have a little trouble on her full turn.
great beam routine! one of the best beam routines ever!
THAT DISMOUNT!
While she's not very artistic, I have never seen another gymnast in the entire history of the sport who had that same floaty quality she has on beam
bbhouk1 Simone biles.. Nastia.. Shawn
The quality you're describing *is* artistic!
you need to see more box 😄😄, you see Ecaterina Szabo, Shawn Jhonson, Daniela Silivas

That is not human. That is some kind of alien, anti-gravity, superbeing stuff.
No other American floats on beam like Carly not even Simone biles She’s perfection. More consistent
Shawn Johnson

Well said . There were some tiny breaks indeed but the difficulty and beauty of it overall make this so memorable . Reminds me a bit of Gutsu BB 1992
The stuck dismount capped it off.
Amazing routine!
My favorite beam routine
Carly Patterson is the only one to stick her Patterson Dismount.
No she's not. Aly stuck hers at American Cup one year and in PT in London
***** Cool. Can you specify what year for the American Cup? I am a huge fan of Aly's
Kae Kae Jones
I'm pretty sure it was 2010
***** Awesome. Thanks, I also found one of the PT in London. WOW!
aly also stuck it recently on day 1 of the p&g championships!
THAT DISMOUNT THOUGH!!!!!!
I love the RO to BHS to Patterson...great and unique combo dismount. I like it a little better than the Komova BHS BHS Patterson combo.
I tend to agree about dismount but is RO BHS easier ?

I met her today and got her signature
amazing! great dismount! great stuck landing!
@jd douglas Yes, she was at WOGA, but Evgeny Marchenko was her (and Hollie Vise's) coach
she's a balanced beam worker. both elegant and strong.
in gymnastics, "cowboy" is when you separate your legs in order to complete the rotation of a salto - it's a leg separation deduction.
I had a huge crush on her when I was 13

Shannon, Carly, Nastia, and Shawn were the best on beam
That was great
WOW I'm meeting her in a week beacuse of my gymnastics meet
This was when the highest score possible was a 10 right?
ahh okay thanks. I always assumed it was used to describe giant staps forward on landings
Not the most popular gymnast ...but That Dismount was IT
Behind the bubbly smile, Carly Patterson had ice water in her veins during this event. That look in her eyes at 1:12 says it all.
Best female gymnast ever.
Is Simone Biles. Carly was great during that period, but the GOAT is Simone- without equal.
We can agree to disagree. I maintain Carly Patterson is the best female gymnast ever.
Also Alicia Sacramone has a great tuck position when she performs the double arabian! :)

She did train at WOGA but she had a different personal coach.
Good job
Mary Lou, Carly, Nastia, Shawn and Jordyn are the best gymnasts of the USA ever.
jordyn's not in the same class.
bombrecka why? because she hasn't participated in an Olympic AA? She's one of the greatest All-Arounders of all time, regardless.

Both front tuck and Arabian were landed in a wolf turns position. 😂
