Completely disagree. Brett is very intentional with where he hits the ball. And in that situation, being late on a volley, cross court isn’t the natural direction you’d hit anyway. Meaning, if he was just hitting without directional intent, he would’ve hit down the line. You have to curl the wrist in order to point the strings cross court (which he did). He hit sidespin on the volley almost like a serve bc he was intentionally hitting cross court.

I’m gonna absolutely be a better player because of this. My volley was awful, I didn’t consider hitting it back to him there so that helps a lot, thanks!

Dude you’re such a good sport. Some people can’t handle hearing how they can improve. Not you. You’re hungry to get better. So awesome. The good news is these ideas make sense and you can implement them right away. You got this Brett. Plus, you and your channel keep getting big time pub so that’s good too. Haha

Here is what I learned... When in front of the service line:
    1. Try to hit the ball when it is HIGH (above net level)
    2. Try to be on the SAME SIDE side as the opponent as much as possible.
    3. Mentally think about whether the volley will win the point. If it will not, it is better to hit the ball so it will be be hit back on the same side as you are on.
    Thanks!

great tip, I find myself doing this from time to time too, I think it's because when you are at the baseline, it's intuitive to play opposite side as your opponent to have maximum court coverage and also because cross court shots are more likely than down the line; but that changes when you are at the net, so unless you learned this and ingrain this into your play, people intuitively play the "wrong" side

What I thought you would criticize is:
When he hit the +1 cross court he could have come in because he put the opponent in danger.. And the approach shot (fh or bh) should have been down the line

Dear Brett just hit the volley where he could...I doubt he had any time to think dtl or cross :) , but just "hope to put the racket on the ball"

I completely disagree. Brett is very intentional with where he hits the ball. When you’re late, the natural direction wouldn’t be cross court anyway. When you’re late you’d hit down the line. He hit sidespin on the volley bc he was curling his wrist to aim cross court. He 100% was aiming cross court and it was the reason he got passed on the next shot.

@@2MinuteTennis that may well be... I sometimes feel very late when have to get that high to get a volley, so just reach to hit the ball :)

I almost never run around it. Way too lazy, but I also have a decent backhand on short balls.

Wait, I thought you said the returners outside ground strike is supposed to come back to the middle. And I thought you said the returning player was supposed to involve the net player instead of trying to hit away from him.

I think he could have hit it above net level, had he prepared earlier!

He should have gone down the line instead of cross court !
But since he didn’t, cross-court was okay but his volley sucked !

As mentioned in the video, down the line would’ve helped. But, he’s a not a pro tennis player. And compared to the highest level players, we all suck. Thanks for watching!
