That being said, it's a front-runner position. If you try that tactic in the middle of the bunch, you'll constantly crash out. Goose, the car you drive, is the 2nd best, in that it has the 2nd highest speed, and the biggest armor, allowing it to tank through a lot of damage, and boost every now and then. Of course, the biggest game changer overall is knocking people out, especially in a league race. Can make the Stringray act just like Fox in boosting a lot, plus the higher overall speed. So, honestly, Fox is the best choose for random races in Knight League or if you know you can run most of a race in the top 3 position. Otherwise, go with what you know/comfortable with. 1:17:50 Skyway optimization is the best way to catch up to the front. But if you run a tight race, start the race at the beginning of the bunch, and optimize your boosts, you should never need to go on the skyway to win.
There's something so satisfying about watching Ryu getting clowned on by garbage MM levels, only to turn around and kick everyone's ass in F099. It's like a redemption arc.
For MM3, besides adding in different characters/gameplay modes and block hitboxes, multiplayer needs to be top priority. Have it run smoothly, it'll stick around for a while.

Regarding Mario Maker 3. I wonder if it will just be a part of Nintendo Online like F-Zero 99 is. I agree it shouldn't take Nintendo "too much work" to roll it out. This is based on the knowledge that Mario Maker 1 was built off of tools they already had for New Supe games and assuming that Mario Maker 2 as well as Mario wonder are basically those same tools upgraded. There's likely some "clean up" work to make those tools user friendly as well as probably bugs with character interactions which simply don't occur in the official game which could happen in a Mario Maker environment. However I can see a tick-tock cycle where Nintendo makes a traditional 2D Mario game which rakes in the cash, then polish up the tools for a Mario Maker title to sort of double dip on the investment they made for the tools for the traditional title.
How does ryu not know how to maximize his health both in the heal bar and with his boosts before the end? Ending the race with half health. That and doing what the other cars do with intentionally getting bumped from behind to keep position.
My tip for mute city playing as the wild goose you gotta keep three to four boosts for lap 4 and get a skyway at the good part in lap 3. It gets me too 5 every time
