Creating a Black Background (using Flash)

Ever wondered how to create a black background when you don't have one? It's easy to do by using flash to illuminate your subject whilst minimising the ambient light.

The only thing I would say & should be obvious but might not to a first timer of flash is to obtain focus before adjusting your ambient / available light to black.

Good shout - missed covering focusing, but you should still be able to look through the viewfinder to focus whilst adjusting the settings to under expose. Granted, if using live view, you’d need to focus first 👍
