    Woohoo! I just got an 'Endless Summer' hydrangea! Surprised to find this when I googled how to split it out of the pot!

    Great demo, thank you. Should we leave the long brown stalks on them after we plant the divisions in their new places, or do we prune those off?

    Thank you so much for this video on dividing endless summer hydrangea!😊 Does this also apply to other hydrangeas such as panicles?

    • @downtoearthgardeninganddesign

      You are so welcome! Thank you for watching! This method of propagating works best for the “caning shrub” varieties such as the Endless Summer hydrangeas in this video. The panicle Hydrangeas have a single trunk that is much sturdier, so propagating from cuttings is probably an easier method for that variety.

      I have successfully divided 2 types of h. paniculata, so I say give it a go.

    Thankyou for this video. I’ll be moving to a new home and will miss my mature hydrangea gardens. I’ve never divided before but would love to take a couple plants with me to the new house. Can I divide them now and keep them in pots until we move which is a couple months away? I don’t take possession of new home until Aug. Will the transplants survive in pots until then?

      Hi Tracy! It’s certainly worth a try! Make sure you use a larger container, and keep them watered. Thank you for watching and happy gardening!

    Hi, did you layer the stems the year before? It didn’t seem like the endless hydrangeas just spread on its own from the root. But please correct me if I’m wrong.

    • @downtoearthgardeninganddesign
      @downtoearthgardeninganddesign  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Caroline! No I did not. These hydrangeas have been there for awhile, and the lower stems that were touching the soil actually rooted on there own. Great question, and thank you for watching! 😊

    How old are your plants before you can divide them?

    • @downtoearthgardeninganddesign
      @downtoearthgardeninganddesign  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      These were very established plants, around 11/12 years old. But healthy plants can be divided after 2/3 years.

    This is a very informative video. But, I have to be honest it is stressing me out a little bit. I have had my same hydrangeas growing for about 15 years in my yard, but over the years, it has become much more shady and they don’t get the blooms that they should. I know that I have to transplant them or divide them so they can be there most beautiful selves. But, it’s a little stressful cutting into the roots😭😩💜

      Hi there! Don’t be stressed, gardening should be fun! And if they haven’t been doing well, it is time to make some changes! We are so happy to hear that this video has helped and happy gardening! Thank you for watching 😊

      Thank you very much for this. I inherited an Annabel hydrangea when I bought my house. I have since divided it 3 times.! But she's now got a base that's 2' wide in circumference and needs to be divided again. Thank you for simplifying the digging
