Hi, I am a 4 listener. I really enjoy these videos. I just wanted to say that I wish we could hear a little more for Bea. It feels like Uranio takes up a lot of space in a lot of the videos.
I work on my fixations simply by identifying them when they arise. Whenever I catch myself in the act I say the word “indolence” to name what I’m doing, and that alone has been helpful to jolt me awake.
A warning to 9s: if you do not address your fixations you WILL be taken advantage of or abused by others. Another good reason to keep in touch with anger is that anger will help you recognize this internally. Trust your guts!
Yes, Uranio may sometimes speak ‘more’ than Bea (& btw, not always), but when he does, I honestly do not feel bully energy from him. His speaking (to me) comes from a deep silence. Teaching is a paradox--the message is not the words, yet words are the only game in town. So he speaks, but it is in service to the message, not to get attention. I love them both--and together they offer a rich understanding.
The conversation around 25:00 I find funny. Beatrice (e2) arguing indolence (maybe as far as it’s a value applies to others) is emotionally grounded whereas Uranio (e5) argues it’s mental. I believe Naranjo (Character and Neurosis) explains all fixations as being cognitive whereas the passions are emotional. This makes sense to me: as a 9, indolence is something I witness in the mind more than the heart or body. As a 9 with strong Sx instinct, I often observe this with close relationships. It’s a constant self-subversion where I place the other before myself. I imagine it’s a similar process to the type 1 subversion of instinct. I may want or intend to do something, and then the thought (usually just the name) of someone else who is important to me pops into my head. I am not actually considering the other person when it matters to them, I’m considering them in order to bolster my own sense of being: I’m MORE real if I can incorporate other people into my personality. But this is the flaw: it’s all in my head! And this reinforces then my own sloth: I can forget myself because I’ve already put someone else first. I have noticed on occasion I do impose values on others and that may be true of indolence to some degree- it stands further reflection. Indolence for me is the excuse not to truly show up as myself and for myself.
This is so true about the 9. I had a boss for 9 years who was a 9. He was our CFO. He felt like life should be lived in a very minimalist manner. He got upset about employee appreciation day- thought employees should not be recognized for doing what they were paid to do. He had a pride about wearing very old clothes and never getting a new car. He was judgmental of our higher level execs who drove flashy cars and had vacation homes. There was definitely this sense that he knew the right way to exist in this world, but he was always smiling and very loving and agreeable.
Great, great video. 4s also focus on what's missing in the present, as shown in the Naranjo book, the joke of someone offering the moon to a 4 kid, and this one asking if it could be in another colour. Unsatisfaction, the missing element is automatic in a 4, no matter if it's in the past, present or future.
Thank you for your insightful and welcoming episodes, I always benefit so much from them. As a SP/SX 3, I agree with both of your descriptions of the type 3 fixation. My personal summary of it would be that "Failure (or more precisely, being seen as a failure) is always just around the corner, and I have to do something to prevent it"
I agreed more with Uranio when he and Bea had slightly different views on topics like type 2 and vanity. If I typed myself on fixations I am totally a 5 -- stingy, guarded with lots of my time and even routes to be efficient. However when I am doing things with my hubby who is not stingy I find out pheww it is okay we did extra things or took detour but I don't learn from that. I still order my life stingily because I am wired that way I guess. I loved this chat!
Bea is worth her salt, and leads with her intrinsic wisdom and expertise of Enneagram. Respectfully, Uranio could do with more introspection around his tendency to disagree (as a default) and be stubborn in his own viewpoints. He also overly dominates this discussion in particular, which I found annoying, but it would of course be up to Bea to speak up more. I think it would bring more balance (and truth!) to the discussion. I've read Bea's book and listened to every podcast episode, so this isn't an offhanded comment -- it's something I've noticed as a pattern. Just my take.
I believe Uranio has mentioned in the past that he is consciously moving to Type 8 energy and be more willing to disagree with others. I imagine, as with all of us, he may be in the process of finding balance but as he's developing a new skill he perhaps is overdoing it at times. Bea has excellent listening skills of course as a Therapist.

Not to be rude or annoying, but just to correct your spelling in case someone wants to look the words up. It's 'melancholy' and 'cowardice'.
Thanks. I corrected it.@@sewhip

Excellent material. But maybe too much of a solo show.
Bea communicating 2ness (focusing on others, being an appreciative audience, tactful). Urania communication dominance, all knowing. I’m guessing 5.
Yes , if I remember it correctly. Pea did shared that he is a core Type 5

Yeah, 8's love their mindset.

Nice summery look with the pink/purple colors 🤩
I am a 4, I am really enjoying those deep conversations 😊
Great Theory that Fixations are not personal but gerneral, like " erverbody should be more ...". I fully agree. Thanks Uranio
Great discussion. Thank you!

I think Melancholy is a mood not an emotion... Melancholic is a sort of temperament too, Isnt it?
I don’t think I should on anyone.
