They are domesticated. House cats are natural hunters, but they lack killer instinct. At least when they are living with humans knowing they don't have to kill in order to survive. These same cats when born and raised on the streets will hunt, catch and succesfully kill mice/rats/fish/squirrels/rabbits and sometimes even birds. If a human doesn't have to work to earn, he'll become lazy and weak. Same with even big animals like lions/tigers. If humans will feed them their whole life and then put them back in nature, they will probably lack the stamina to catch up their fast-running prey like springbok/wildebeest etc.

I didn't torture any animal. The cats brought the rat into the house, and then it got away from them and was up in the curtain rods. The rat got away FYI.
