Great video guys! Interesting canine factoid, the rarest dog on Earth during the '60s and '70s was the Chinese Shar pei (only 60 left in existence at the time). Why? Because Chairman Mao's Cultural Revolution banned dogs, claiming that they were consuming too much of the nation's limited food supplies and ordered all dogs destroyed(and eaten). The breed only survived because of a few dedicated breeders in Hong Kong. The breeders pleaded for help to US dog breeders and the breed was successfully brought back from near extinction. Hong Kong and the US, saving a legendary Chinese breed with a history going back over 2,000yrs. You're welcome Mao. 😊
I love your channel, but I'd like it if you didn't smear my career at the same time as going after the really crappy Chinese Medicine. It's a problem, and a really serious issue. But if you've not had treatments with me, I can see why you're skeptical. I have research that utilizes electromagnetism, so just saying we're not all dog eaters. Then again, I'm American :) Much love from Kentucky. ps dog spinal cord is a common Chinese "herb" generally people only need pig spinal cord, and only in powder, and only in one major formula. They can do it without, but the formula is substantially weaker. Anyhow I don't want to debate. I can see where you're coming from because TCM in China is so much worse ethically... it's sad. Quacks in everything, though. Especially biomedicine.
In Taiwan, they do NOT eat dog meat. And, you don't get more traditional than Taiwan. (Although to be fair, they had to make it illegal, to stamp it out.)
I worked in China for about 10 years and out of curiosity tried dog meat with friends on a night out (summer time) at a Hunan restaurant. Later I was talking to my boss' wife who was from Hunan and was discussing that I had tried dog meat at a Hunan restaurant and she gave a look of disgust, I thought maybe she was someone who was sensitive about this but then she said "That is disgusting, we only eat dog in the winter"
@@Iangrey11 lol??? What is there yo laugh about? How can you possibly write such a disgusting comment while such a thing is posted? It makes me wonder if you have any morals or feelings about dogs. Lol😤😡
After living in China for almost 5 years I cannot begin to count how many times I saw accidents where trucks smashed cars or motorcycles into twisted metal. Happens all the time. Happened to my sister-in-law on her way to see us. Took the family almost a week to locate her body and find out she was dead.
@@tahj420 yeah it was tough. First time I was meeting her. We were having kind of a wedding party. We had gotten married in the US and went back about 6 months later and all the family was getting together for dinner. Had a bunch of aunts and uncles and cousins there. Parents, her brother in law, her other sister, niece and nephew. Basically the entire family. And we waited and waited and she never arrived. I still remember when we finally located her and went to claim the body. She was in a big freezer, wrapped in some heavy semi clear plastic. They opened the door and several frozen bodies fell out and onto the floor. I still remember the sound of the frozen bodies hitting the floor. Then they had to start peeling back the plastic around the heads, exposing each one to my father in law until they got to her. The grimace on her frozen face was the thing of horror movies. Was a horrible time for the entire family and instead of a celebration it was a mourning.
When I was a USDA meat inspector in Liberal, KS, there was an inspectors in the service who knew health officials in the town of Liberal. The inspector asked me if I ever saw a cat in town as I drove around. When I thought about it and told him no he told me a Chinese restaurant in Liberal had to be shut down because health officials found cat skeletons in their trash.
My family lived in Wichita, KS for a few decades. There were a number of Vietnamese refugees who were flown over and given new homes in Wichita after the war. Suddenly people’s cats and dogs were going missing. Someone finally caught a guy in the act of stealing his dog from his fenced backyard. When the police got involved they found a number of refugees had dog and cat meat hanging in their kitchens. A few families also had started fires in the middle of their kitchen floors and didn’t know how to use the stove. My uncle was a police officer and told us all about it. Huge culture shock for everyone.
@@haywireking4197 That's not at all the case. They don't eat the cats and dogs because they're starving, they eat them because it's part of their culture and it doesn't cost them $$$. It's not a matter of being "soooo hungry". Try again.
My first dog ever was a goldie named Lekky. Hearing there was a restaurant that served only golden retriever made me burst into tears. They’re such loving, loyal dogs.
It's sad.. But then I think, pigs are the same intelligence, and America does judt as bad. Makes me think all of humanity is evil. Except India I guess
Oddly, Koreans believe that dog meat is an aphrodisiac. In 1979, when I was stationed in S. Korea, a guy tried to steal my dog. As I approached my house I saw a guy, wearing some type of grey uniform and uniform cap, pick up my dog, Uncle Sam, and put him into a wire cage strapped to the back of his little 50cc, Korean-made motorcycle. The cage was stuffed with about a dozen other dogs. As I yelled to the guy, he drove off in the direction of downtown Uijongbu. I sprinted back to the compound, jumped into my duty jeep, and tore out the gate in the direction of downtown. I wove in and out of traffic, passing other cars illegally and damned near ran over a woman crossing the street. I managed to catch up to the guy just as he crossed the main highway passing through the middle of the city, and I followed him into the wet market in the center of the city. I lost him in the crowd of pedestrians but eventually caught up to the motorcycle. It was parked outside of a tent and the guy wasn't around. I got out and approached the motorbike and then noticed, hanging from a tripod over a huge caldron with charcoal burning beneath and a foul smell coming from the liquid inside, the carcass of a dog, The dog hung from a chain with a steel hook through his tongue and the dog's entire weight was on the tongue. Lined up alongside the cauldron, were pieces of dogs - even heads - with the hair boiled away, for sale. I'd thought I was chasing the municipal dog catcher because Uncle Sam didn't have a collar or a license (I don't even know if there was any such thing as a dog license in Korea in those days) but realized then that the guy was just a guy who went around picking up dogs - any dogs - and selling them to dog butchers. I walked back to my Jeep and, with difficulty, managed to turn it around in that lane full of pedestrians. Then I walked back to the motorcycle, undid the chain latch holding the door closed on the wire cage, pulled out Uncle Sam, held him, and then shook the cage and yelled at the other dogs to get them to jump out of the cage. As I did so, I heard an angry voice shout in Korean, "Yaema sheepalima!(Hey, you son of a bitch)" I turned to see the guy running toward me with a guy who I presumed to be the butcher close behind. I jumped into my jeep with Uncle Sam, put it in gear and started driving through the throng while beeping my horn incessantly. The guy ran alongside the jeep and tried to open the door, but when he reached for me, I stiff-armed him in the adam's apple, and he went over backward. I eventually got out of the wet market and headed back to Camp Red Cloud as fast as I could go in the traffic and roared through the main gate without even stopping for the Korean MPs that manned the main gate. I was a US MP; and, at that time Camp Red Cloud was where I corps headquarters was located. The PMO was a joint US MP - Korean MP police station. I drove into the PMO parking lot, which was only about 50 meters from the main gate and drove around to the back side of the PMO where the jeep couldn't be seen. Then I took Uncle Sam, entered the PMO through the back door. I walked up to the main entry door and peeked out at the main gate just in time to see two light blue Korean taxis pull up and disgorge about seven very angry Koreans, including the uniformed dog kidnapper. The Koreans tried to rush through the pedestrian gate, but the Korean MPs stopped them and pushed them back out onto the street. They then began yelling in Korean at the Korean MPs and gesticulating toward the PMO. It was obvious they'd been close enough behind me to see where my jeep had gone, and they were demanding to be let onto the compound to find the American who'd stolen the dog and let all those other dogs escape. I put Uncle Sam in the interpreter's office, explained the situation to the interpreter, and asked him to walk out to the gate, listen in on the conversation between the Koreans and the Korean MPs, and then come back and tell me what was going on. He left for the gate. Meanwhile, First Sergeant Womack, came into the PMO to begin his evening shift as Duty Officer. He looked at me and then said to me in that deep southern drawl of his, "O'Handley, why do I get the feeling you have something to do with the ruckus that's currently transpiring outside my main gate?" I knew there wasn't much point in denying it because he'd obviously read it on my face, so I told him what had happened. Hearing the story, Womack, who was an avid hunter and had told me about his beloved hunting dog back home, said, "Well, I'll tell you what, Bub. They ain't no stinkin' dog-eater, going to take any dog off this compound tonight. Especially one that belongs to one of my soldiers. Just lay low here in the PMO for the night and fer crissakes keep the dog from yappin." I was relieved and thanked him. Shortly after that the interpreter came in and told me that the dog stealer was demanding the right to make a SOFA (Status of Forces Agreement) complaint against the American that had stolen a dog from him and released his day's catch and had cost him thousands of Won. The First Sergeant walked over and told the interpreter to go back to the gate and ensure that the Korean MPs explained to the guy that unless he could positively name the perpetrator, he wasn't going to get any cooperation from the American MPs unless he went downtown, swore out a complaint with the civilian police, and they came back with a warrant for the American wherein he was named. By now a large crowd of Koreans had gathered around the gate and was backing the dog napper up. We watched through the window as the interpreter went out to the gate, informed the Korean MPs, they informed the complainant and then the crowd dispersed. The First Sergeant then said to me, "O'Handley, you might wanna sleep up in the barracks for the next couple of nights instead of going to your off-post hooch, until this dies down a bit. Just keep that dog quiet. We don't want word to get out that someone has a dog on post staying in the barracks." It was two days before I returned to my off-post apartment with Uncle Sam. It broke our hearts, but my girl and I decided that the best way to protect Sam was to give him away to someone that lived in an area where he'd be safe. She knew a girl married to an American officer in Yongsan who lived off-post in Seoul in a gated community where dogs were allowed and were safe from dog hunters. She contacted her and the girl and her husband agreed to take Sam and said they'd bring him back to the US when they returned to CONUS in a few months. We said our goodbyes to Sam and never saw him again. I saw that dog hunter several more times during my tour, but he didn't recognize me. On the day of the event, I'd been wearing my uniform, but normally, because I was an MPI investigator, I was dressed in civilian clothes. The guy walked right by me twice when I was in civilian clothes without recognizing me. Dog eating was supposedly outlawed in Korea prior to the '88 Olympics but when I returned to Korea in '93 for my last overseas tour I saw dogmeat still openly being sold in markets all over Seoul. My wife's nephew, who is a cop in Korea, tells me that dogs are still eaten in Korea to this day and that they (the police) are told to ignore it.
@@brayanlopez2015 while he was stationed in korea, someone stole his dog, so he stole it back and they made a ruckus of it. Had to lay low and eventually give the dog away to protect it. Also although it's outlawed, dog meat is still being eaten in korea.
Ya I always thought it was a Chinese thing but I guess it's an Asian thing Cu I was in Vietnam and it was sold everywhere.... I think it's bcuz the people are very poor and they can't get beef regularly like we do and dog is the easiest protein to available. And iive noticed they eat specifically "Yellow dog" it's a breed of dog eaten in China for thousands of years
I can proudly say that I rescued my dog from a dog meat shop back in Nanjing 2015. She had escaped somehow and I found her and took her in. My neighbor always told me “你不要告诉别人你的狗本来是流浪狗的” (Don’t tell anyone your dog was originally a stray dog).

This reminded me of a conversation I had with a Chinese person who said that they don't eat bats online. I literally sent her a link of a Chinese person having bat soup. A couple of links actually. And not a word was said. Why the heck do they have to lie? They can't even accept these simple truths about their culture. It's so bizarre. Yes, not all Chinese people eat bat or dog. But to take offense for the actions of others is unwarranted and unnecessary.
@@Spratdragon Try "fixing" them if you want. Based on my experience people tend to hunker down on their believes when they are not open to change. First of all, these nationalists already think they're better than everyone so why would they feel motivated to change their ways when they think they're superior. What's "normal" to them is not "normal" to you.
That's so true about the lying. I worked with a Chinese lady who has a twin sister. I live in Australia. She grew up with her mum and dad whilst her sister lived with her grandparents. I asked her if that was because of the 'one child policy'. She pretended that she had no clue what I was talking about. She was a qualified accountant. Not one to be hoodwinked, I asked her why they lived seperately. She said, good question and she didn't know.
I grew up with this chi, internal temperature, it's full of shit. No proof, I think it's folklore. Most of the time I find people doing things counter intuitive to their chi beliefs anyway. Makes no sense.
For me it works, tho it really breaks down in good eating habit. If i eat too spicy or oily, i get shanghuo and my skin breaks out. So i just eat fish and bogchoi or spinach or guilingao/grass jelly and it gets better. But the other stuff like just in that day you can eat whatever you want or whatever that’s wacky like serpentz said. But yea, humans are humans, ofc they are counter intuitive xD everyone wants some crisps here and then.
I agree, there is some science to it but not to the extreme. I like how the English love a pickle with their fish and chips. Pickles are fermented and help break down the fat. We've all got different ideas of what foods should be eaten and what with. Some are right, some are wrong.
@@Firebear31 Sounds like it’s the Iron in the food is what’s helping, try Savoy cabbage. Broccoli, anything with a deep green colour. A good healthy diet always helps, there will be some traditional medicine that helps. A lot of it will just be made up, but I bet there are some real cures. Garlic and willow bark are good for high blood pressure and pain relief.
I think it's just eastern medicine's explanation and assigning energy to the way our body temperatures fluctuate. We know that the fluctuation means nothing other than we are cold or hot but they are still stuck thinking it means more than that. Its this backwards way of illogical thinking that still gives animal bones transferable power.

The two worst things that I've ever seen in my life was a puppy being boiled alive in hot oil and a cat, held by the tail, being blowtorched alive - all for them to taste better, supposedly. It was horrific. Seeing a man being killed with swords wasn't nearly as traumatic, for some reason. There was a saying in Guilin: 好狗不过灵川。 Those bad roads take me back. When the road was previously paved and is eroded by the f*cking lorries (!!!) the potholes are very jarring due to the hardness of the remnants of road underneath. I still prefer them to wet clay after a torrential rainstorm, though. On a few roads in western Guangxi and Guizhou I had to drive in first gear for hours and hours...
@@RalphdontGAF Indeed.. Somehow I wasn't really affected much when I witnessed a man being butchered with swords in 2008, but those innocent animals haunt me...
@@pixiedust6630 Yes, I saw the man before he was killed and he didn't look like your average innocent bystander. Most people that have the Mafia set on them aren't. To be fair my Taiwanese friend said he tried dog meat once during the time he was doing his military service. It is not common or widespread, but available. And my wife and daughter was served bat soup when they visited Palau few years back. So asian cultures do eat all kinds of strange stuff. But the way they kill and treat the dogs in China is horrific
It's not even Asian - all cultures around the world eat strange meat at one point in time because meat is a rich source of protein and energy that is good for survival, and if you killed the game, you ARE going to eat it and not let it go to waste if that meat isn't going to kill you. We've abandoned most of that when humans moved away from the hunting way of life, plus with the industrial revolution we focused our resources to raise the most efficient meat producing animals (cows, pigs and chicken) for our consumption and stopped consuming these small animals which have a low muscle masses to body ratio - that's just how our lifestyle as homo sapiens have changed, and it's not morally superior/inferior to another when it comes to which meat each culture chooses to consume. So as they said in this video, there's no point in engaging the whataboutism of meat consumption in different cultures, the issues is about how the meat is obtained and treated in the current Chinese culture specifically - like stealing people's pet dog which is just disgusting.
@Tyler Maguire All animals consume more energy than the meat form they become. World hunger is solved several times over if the food spent raising livestock were given to people.
@Tyler Maguire I have never eaten dog meat cause I dont care for it. I just dont agree with the hypocrisy on one animal source being "forbidden" when they arent endangered species or a larger health risk. Just like I enjoy pork despite that being forbidden in a religion over a billion people believe, and I enjoy beef despite that been forbidden in a country of over a billion people, I dont see why dog meat is so special.
@@catherineabsolom7289 Was watching this video and in it (To my unaware) they showed how they kill cats & dogs to eat... It was so awful that I won't repeat what I saw, But it put tears in my eyes to say the very least!
I'm a patron of ADV China, and a vegan. I live in South Korea. I see dog meat around here occasionally. It isn't exactly popular, but it's easy to find. I saw dog meat being sold in India too. Although I don't eat any animal products and haven't for over 5 years, dog meat definitely provokes more of a gut reaction in me than other meat, but I recognise that is because of my cultural heritage in the UK. On a logical level, it's no worse than eating other animals. I think that the denialism over dog meat in China is not that different from the way that people turn a blind eye to how bad the "acceptable" meat industries are in the rest of the world. Even in my homeland of the UK where there are supposed to be animal welfare laws, it doesn't look that different from these images of Chinese dog meat farms sometimes. I worked in animal agriculture, it's part of why I became vegan.
Hello gentlemen, every time when you bring this dog's meat eating topic up, I feel sick. It's not because you are talking about Chinese people eating dogs, it's because Chinese people eat dog's meat but flat out denies it ! It's the same thing when people talk about concentration camp s in Xin Jiang, Chinese people will flat out denies it. This deny culture makes me very sick.
Chinese people don't deny eating dogs, they deny themselves eating dogs. That's the difference. Only a small fraction of the population in rural areas eat dogs... and Chinese aren't the only people who eat dog. They deny the claims that they are the only one who eat dogs.
@@Jake-dh9qk No one is claiming it is only China that does. Sounds like an attempted deflection. Claiming it's only rural areas is also a deflection - they literally showed maps showing dog meat shops in just about every place in the East - including Beijing and Shanghai. So, that it might be rural culture may be (or not) but claiming it doesn't happen someplace is part of that deny and deflect cultural thing that the guys are actually addressing. Look, I get that rural folk eat odd things - happens even here in USA. But we don't deny it. THAT is the difference.

Dogs are generally living in miserable conditions in China and lots of them may have mental issues under constant threats and isolation, and Chinese people are nevertheless living under anxiety and fear just as dogs do. Cannibalism used to be rampant in ancient times under famine in China to the extent that there were markets of human flesh where people came to buy human meat or sell their family members (usually young wife of the son or small children) to be slaughtered in Ming dynasty.
EVERYTHING is generally living in miserable conditions in China...except for the few humans that were able to murder, bully and or got orn into a family on the top of the bottomless pit.

Unfortunately this type of treatment of dogs and dog meat is also present in other Asian countries, especially in the rural/poorer areas. Little by little it's being phased out as people are becoming more educated and aware of modern ways. I have several horror stories within my own family similar to what was described in this video. i can accept that people eat dogs. That's a cultural thing i can understand. what i cant accept is that from the videos that i have seen it look as if they go out of their way to make the suffer as much as possible. skinning them alive and boiling them alive, same as raccoon/fox fur farms, or the live donkey sashimi. most other cultures at least try to make it as painless as possible. but their culture seems to be devoid of empathy/compassion. not only for the pain of the animal itself, but also to a lesser extend the pain of the human who lost their "pet friend" as they steal it for meat.

My argument against eating dogs is that they were evolutionarily compelled to befriend humans and consuming them is a betrayal of this genetic conditioning.
Hi Matt and Winston, Another American here. One of the big things I dislike most about the consumption of Dog meat in Chinese society is not just the fact that dog meat is consumed, it is the fact that such a giant percentage of dog meat consumed is the meat of other people's stolen pets. Some Americans eat pig meat, and will not deny this if it is asked by a foreign person, but some Americans also keep pigs as pets. That being said, even the Americans who eat pig meat would never consider eating the pork meat from some else's pet pig. Additionally, stealing someone else's pet pig so as to obtain pig meat would be viewed as being completely unacceptable. Great Video as always, and thank you for shedding some light on this subject.
This is actually footage from Matt and Winston’s move from West coast to East coast USA. They had all their life possessions stacked on their bikes. /s
Many years ago, I saw 3-leg wild boar was tied outside of a restaurant in China when I traveled and had my lunch in that restaurant. I asked the owner why that pig has only three legs and the missing leg was badly treated (just to stop the bleeding). The owner said that some guy ordered the leg special meal. And he said that he would offer special price to me for that special menu. I had to turn my head away from this restaurant. Although I like to have meat in my meal, but it was just too disgusting that Chinese treat that animal. I believe many Chinese had zero sympathy on torturing animals.
I have a friend in china that went to and come home to find their Newfoundland dog had been taken and they found it at the wet market around the corner dead on the floor and the people who stolen it broke into home and was paid very big price. The police wouldn't do anything so all his family and friends burned down the show and saved heaps of dogs that were out back.

Another reason trucks are off the highway is ticket racketeering. Cops in China get part of every ticket they issue, a massive conflict of interest. We're not just talking speed traps we're talking roads allegedly intentionally designed to trip up drivers. Also many areas have strict weight limits but allow trucks near the weight limit to be sold (I.E. 4 ton truck, 5 ton weight limit). Cities being jerks with fines isn't uncommon across the world but like everything else this gets extreme in China.

Wow... the double standard of most people in this comment section. Who cares what type of meat someone eats? Animal is animal. Slaughter is slaughter. Reduce any suffering before them becoming food. Thats it. No mather if it's a lobster or a dog or a cow.
It's just ridiculous how true that is, my Chinese girlfriend's dog happened to be captured... What baffled me was.. she didn't seem to be quite as traumatized by it as I would have imagined.
Suppose you keep a chicken as a pet and you're not vegan or something. I'd have a conflict of interest -- he's my pet, but he's also food -- that would stop me from getting too attached
I had the same conversation with multiple people in China. A girl would tell me about a dog her family had while she was growing up, and she loved the dog. Then, the dog suddenly disappeared one day, and it was never found. The parents probably knew that the dog was turned into food, but they didn’t tell their kids.

I spent over a decade in China. When I was in Dalian, the restaurant just down the street from my apartment served dog meat. When I lived in Tian Ping Shan outside of Suzhou, I saw the local restauranteur actually butchering a dog. The people asked me if I liked dog. I said, "Tai you le." Too oily. The locals just laughed.
I lived in Mongolia(外蒙古)from 2006 to 2008 (and I loved China so would make frequent trips to Beijing). One time I was driving one summer in my Hummer H3 (great truck for Mongolia) on what passes for a highway well west of Ulaanbaatar. The road had just been resurfaced by the Chinese for the Mongols, so it hadn't yet seen the 176 (yes!) degrees F yearly temperature cycle, so it was pristine. So I'm driving at 70+ mph, go over a rise and the resurfaced road abruptly ends without warning (of course). The old road looked like it had been bombed many times, completely covered in huge potholes, many of which were meters wide and deep. Fortunately I was (barely) able to stop in time, but the road was so useless that there were numerous improvised off road vehicle trails winding in parallel to the road on both sides for many miles, which is how drivers coped with a highway completely destroyed by summer/winter cycles. Thanks for reminding me!

It’s very different there compared to the Chinese cities that I have been to. Anyway in East and North Thailand there are big trucks that drive around buying dogs which they then take to China for eating. They only pay a few cents for a dog or swap a dog for a plastic bowl or bucket.. a Family that I know had a dog called Boon Raud, he was troublesome and bit people occasionally, he bit me once though it was my fault on that occasion and I generally got on well with Boon Raud as long as I respected his space.. anyway one day Boon Raud was gone I learned that he’d been swapped for a new plastic bucket and was on the truck to China.. very sad and if you don’t know what happens to those dogs (I don’t mean the eating bit) I suggest you do not research it unless you are or a strong disposition.. you can never unsee images of such cruelty.. it’s because the Chinese do that in order that the adrenaline from a terrified dog makes it taste better.

Parents, her brother in law, her other sister, niece and nephew. Basically the entire family. And we waited and waited and she never arrived.
We don't want word to get out that someone has a dog on post staying in the barracks."
It was two days before I returned to my off-post apartment with Uncle Sam.

@Tyler Maguire Thats with all meat. Literally the same logic with those who wanna ban all meat.
@Tyler Maguire rofl both are plenty wasteful than simply eating plants if thats the only argument you have.
From the overall content ive seen there more dogs than birds in China.
The chinese don't eat every dog. They actually prefer certain dog breeds. At least that's what my chinese stepdaughter told me
Here in Germany Theres people EATING "Pferde Gulasch" horse meat stew.......i never ate IT....dont WANT to.....
They love their dog meat. It's the cruel and disgusting way they kill the dogs. Soo bloody cruel.
@@catherineabsolom7289 Was watching this video and in it (To my unaware) they showed how they kill cats & dogs to eat... It was so awful that I won't repeat what I saw, But it put tears in my eyes to say the very least!
Lol, nah genuine more birds in China, but that cause there a lot of chickens and other farmed birds.
It's the same thing when people talk about concentration camp
s in Xin Jiang, Chinese people will flat out denies it.
Man those videos are gonna age like whiskey from a burnt down distillery, with how things are evolving in China. I doubt anyone will be able to make videos with footage like this in the foreseeable future.
Nobody told me about the lychee. I ate a massive amount one day and got a fever. I was pretty sick for days.
Haha, there's no porn or prostitution in china either! 🤣
My Chinese wife still tells the story of when she was young, her brother who is a couple of years older had a dog. And one day for whatever reason I don’t know if the dog was sick or what , maybe it was just fine, but their parents decided to eat it for dinner. Her brother couldn’t say anything to his parents of course, but he got angry and yelled at my wife for eating his dog! He was so upset.
I live in the Philippines and a lot of street dogs vanished during the March-April 2020 lockdown. That said, you will not see dogs or cats at a wet market or restaurant.
They use to eat them when my lola was a child, she didn't like dog meat, made her sick. Although its not allowed, I'm sure especially now some might be eating them.
i’ve got so many chinese and even indonesian friends who have had their dogs stolen and eaten. really such a horrible thing :( they were all heartbroken i felt so bad
When I was in Jilin, the roads were either as smooth as glass or ten times WORSE than what I am seeing on your video.
Very similar to Australia ... when you drive in the "bush" the roads are total crap . Then you come across a hotmix section of road .. for 1 or 2 KM. That's how you know where the "local Leaders" or Council members live .
They only have 2 ways to deal with stuff in china
1. Ignore it/pretend it doesn’t exist
2. Extreme crackdowns and fixes

Awesome video guys. This is why I support you both on Patreon! You tell the truth about not just China, but everything!

I miss these video layouts honestly. It reminds me of your guys earlier videos please keep up the good work and I hope you guys make more like these
Unfortunately this type of treatment of dogs and dog meat is also present in other Asian countries, especially in the rural/poorer areas. Little by little it's being phased out as people are becoming more educated and aware of modern ways. I have several horror stories within my own family similar to what was described in this video. Absolutely traumatic.
Man, I remember loose handlebars! There is a lot I miss about riding a bike, but that isnt one of them!
That's one of the scariest thing about riding a bike. Second scariest is riding after heavy rain and not knowing how deep potholes are due to them being filled with water, scary as shit when you get stuck in one deeper than your entire front wheel.
i can accept that people eat dogs.
Shout out to the G303 (I know you guys were on the g302) that I drove on from 99 to 2001. In 2000 I got a huge upgrade with WTO money flowing in and it was fantastic. When a buddy of mine Left in 2003 it looked almost exactly like the road you were driving on.
I love the communication setup you guys use. Very clear.
My argument against eating dogs is that they were evolutionarily compelled to befriend humans and consuming them is a betrayal of this genetic conditioning.
I don't trust anyone who doesn't like dogs, much less tortures and eats dogs. The more I learn about this 'culture' (???) the less I like it.
Sometimes that light at the end of the tunnel is just the train coming right at you.
Hi Matt and Winston,
Another American here.

Love your and W channels . Very insightful. Thank you for sharing !
I sometimes like to eat snacks when watching new ADV shows. The dog meat segments always make me nauseous. That's always when the snacking ends. 😬
More videos like this please!
I've chosen a bad video to watch during lunchtime :P

Another reason trucks are off the highway is ticket racketeering. Cops in China get part of every ticket they issue, a massive conflict of interest. We're not just talking speed traps we're talking roads allegedly intentionally designed to trip up drivers. Also many areas have strict weight limits but allow trucks near the weight limit to be sold (I.E. 4 ton truck, 5 ton weight limit).
Cities being jerks with fines isn't uncommon across the world but like everything else this gets extreme in China.

I like India because it has produced so many great non-meat eating religions :) which may have helped them in making some of the best vegetarian and vegan cuisine.
