      Thank you, yes it seems to be brighter, this is nice because installing this was painful on the neck and shoulder always working with my arms up and looking at he ceiling all the time.

      Thank you, it was also our goal to light up the place, 100 year old red pine is nice but so dark....

    Fantastic work for both. The new ceiling looks spectacular!
    I really like the dark/light contrast, and the wood makes everything look warmer and cozier.
    Best regards from Croatia ❤

      Thank you Andrea, we also love the contrast between the 100 year old red pine and the new white pine

    The contrast of the light wood against the dark beams looks really good!

    Looks good! That's an incredible amount of work but its totally worth it, it totally transformed the cabin. I love how Renee is always helping you!

      Renée is a gem, it would have been even longer if she didn't prepared all those planks and passed them when I was up in the scaffold. We're really happy of how this turned out that's for sure

      Thank you, hopefully the added insulation will also add something, we will see

    Its been said before, but you are so lucky to have chosen a wife who takes such an active rôle in your projects. But even you seemed rather surprised at how Renée hefted that section of scaffolding away from the truck!

    • @LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker
      @LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker  หลายเดือนก่อน

      She is a gem, and not too wimpy, I'm lucky. But I think that the beams that we layed on the scaffold were heavier than the metal side section of the scaffold.

    Looks great - we did our place with the same planks, but I really like the dark beams that break up your ceiling.
    The pine will slowly darken over the years and it will begin to look a bit more mellow.
    Also, it never occurred to me to route out a groove to add a spline to the ends. Great work.

      Thank you, I'm not sure the pine will change a lot, I sprayed water based varnish, usually water based varnish don't change too much colour. It's why I varnished my shop with oil varnish, I wanted it to get this reddish colour, but I wanted the ceiling to stay clear it's dark enough over there

      @@LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker i used the same varnish (Diamond Coat?) in our bathroom. The rest of the cottage was left raw. After 8 years they have both gotten more orange, but the bathroom has changed much less.

    The light wood on the floor and ceiling together look really great, much brighter and more inviting, good job guys!
    What is the big brace holding up at 11:19 ? I think you mentioned gas lighting, but it looks like a big cast iron bracket with ropes that are holding up a regular electric light fixture? Is it more a piece of artwork and something to look at, rather than actual functional lighting?

    • @LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker
      @LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well it's both a art piece and a functional lighting fixture. When we build the cottage 30 years ago the only way to lit the place was with 3 gas fixtures, one near the kitchen table and both those lamps. Since I've installed solar panels I'm solely lighting the place by electricity, it's way brighter. But I'm keeping all my gas fixtures, you never know!!! Once I arrived at the cottage and my battery had exploded, OK my charge controller was defective and the wind mill made too much electricity and POOF.
      As for the cast iron pulley that hold the light, it's coming from the barn we dismantle to build the cottage, it was to pull up the hay in the attic of the barn, we thought it was so nice that we kept it along with the original rope and made the gas lamps hang from the hook.

    I really like the lighter tone of the ceiling. I bet it feels a lot brighter inside!
    I am curious, WHY do you have all those sections of chain (from on top of the wood pile) up at the cottage? is that for towing logs?

    • @LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker
      @LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes it does lighten the place. we're very happy of that it is so dark over there.
      They were chains to tow logs on the lake, I found all of them on the shore when the lake was low. And yes I have 4 of them rigged to pull stumps or logs, the rest I keep as weight as you saw

  • @jdhannan

    @6:40 why aren't you using the fence for that cut??

    • @LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker
      @LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker  หลายเดือนก่อน

      The last planks were almost never straight so I had to make slanted cut on most of them. At home I would have used my bandsaw but the crappy 8" bandsaw I brought to the cottage was tuck away at the back of my shed so I cut it like that and finished the cut with a plane so the cut would be straight.

    Is your plan to move out there one day or just vacation?

    • @LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker
      @LgosseuxDbois-TheWoodpecker  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No just spent a lot of vacation over there. we have to go back soon to make some brushcutting, again, and cut some dead trees. I never go there during moose hunting season and moose hunting season is mid October.
