Giving a second life to unused gear is so rewarding. As you said it helps clear that doubt when you pick a piece of gear but it's also one step to prevent GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome). GAS can take so much of your brain time, instead of using this time to just do something with what you already have.
I have been on minimalist road for three year and now I can see the process and THE CHANGE. Just by seeing an Peters empty shelf made my heart jump forr joy and breath that much easier. Oh jesh, I am a minimalist and I love it 🥰
This problem of not intentionally buying what we truly need doesn't exist for people who come from scarcity. Bcz we definitely don't have excess money to buy a lot😀
I just recently said to the wife I just have too much that I don’t even use. Cameras ,cameras, lenses,and more lenses,drones of every description,gimbles ,it’s just too much. I guess this whole COVID situation has brought a lot of introspection.

Since we've going to move houses, I did nothing else but selling my stuff that I don't need. Cameras, lenses, and more. Feels awesome and helps me realize that you don't need to buy all the stuff other people use to create content, but that you only need to buy the things that suit your needs.
Hard to believe, I purged the gear last Spring and now only have one full frame (AR74 w/ a 200-600, 70-200, 24-70, 16-35 & 20 1.8) and one crop body (M50 w/ kit 15-45 and 16mm 1.4), two hero 7s and my Mavic 2 pro. This year, I'm going through the tripods (7), gimbals (4), lights & filter systems(??) and a box of trinkets that I'm absolutely sure I needed at some point. Great intro guys, y'all work hard man.
Great work, Pete! I think minimalist tendencies are the natural progression of buying and consuming more mindfully. I’m on a similar journey! Clearing out my knives to an EDC, a hiking and a Leatherman. Likewise backpacks! And coffee kit... and I pretty much exist in black jeans and tees now! ...and thanks, I just signed up to skillshare. The Mobile photography course looks great.
