  • In this video I replace the original fish scale aluminum trim by wrapping the underlying trim plastic with suede.
    Companion blog post at bit.ly/3ICUop7
Suede was purchased at Lonsdale Leather in Vancouver, BC. This video is not sponsored by them but I want to let everyone know that they were awesome to deal with. They responded to my emails quickly and even sent me photos before purchase so I could see the item. They also shipped to me for a very reasonable price, and included a gift package of some brass buckles, clasps, and assorted items. Their website is lonsdaleleather.com/

Nice! A classic option free take in a world of fake carbon fibre wraps! Love it
I’ve been considering wrapping the equivalent trim in my A5… this has given me a much better option!!

I'm glad the video was useful for you. I'm really not fond of fake carbon fiber. I've worked with CF in the past and I feel strongly that if its used it should be functional and not decorative. Good luck on your project!

Very nice video planing to do my self but instead to use caebon fiber... Same process? Should I remove the aluminum part like you did?
    Thanks for awesome tips!

If you are using real carbon fibre then that is way more involved and my video wont be very relevant. If you are using a carbon fibre vinyl wrap then the basics are the same as my video. Removing the aluminum makes room for the new wrap. Im not sure how thick the vinyl is but the aluminum is around 0.6mm (~ish).

Nicely done, that looks fantastic. Do you happen to have details on your head Unit? I have what I assume is the same head unit, or very similar, but your screen looks personalized???

Hi Shwell11. This is an Xtrons IB70AA4R. Instead of using the Xtrons App launcher I installed CarWebGuru available on the App store. It has a lot of options to customize the skins as well as to create your own if you want to put in the effort.

Is it possible to wrap it on top of the silver plastic trim

I wrapped the rear ash tray and the shifter surround with the aluminum trim on. The rear ash tray was fine, but the shifter trim now fits very, very snug. As the sued is almost as thick as the aluminum I decided to remove the aluminum for the rest of the trim as it all needs to fit against the dash and the doors. Be aware the different trims are sized differently. For instance the Piano black trim is all one piece with nothing wrapping it. That means its slightly larger so that its the same size as the aluminum trim with the aluminum attached. I'm guessing the wood grain one will be the same as the piano black. Not sure how the Carbon Fiber one is assembled so I can't comment on that version.

Did you use the cow hide or the pig suede?

I use cow hide on this.

@@KeirBriscoe I had to buy the pig hide because it was the only one that was available in charcoal gray. I hope it looks just as good as yours does 👌🏻

What’s available is good. I just went with what was the thinnest according to the store. I figured it would make it a bit more stretchy.

    What is glue ?

      @KeirBriscoe  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I used Lepage Heavy Duty contact cement. If you’ve never used it before I recommend practicing on something before working on your car parts.

I'm not sure how to respond. Is that a good thing? Did you love that car? I always liked the idea of the CRX, but I had an A
      ccord back then.
