It's a great cheap and simple DIY but I feel like over time the quality and look of a suede wrapped dash turns out much better. Also the flocked look always turns out slightly patchy and tacky looking, where as an entire suede sheet wrapped over the dash looks more Oem especially when tied into the door card
@@SuprSi it's not me being a douche. First go learn a thing or two about tuning, then go learn about the 2jz and how hard it is to fuck one up, then go watch his video on what happened to it. The tuner was obviously pressing numbers and had no clue what he was doing.
I'm a master technician and the one and only types of jobs I usually skip over are removing the dash, I hate it so much!!! You guys did a really good job.
you need to widen out the cracks on the dash so it stops cracking.Use a rotary tool or something. Then use body filler to fill and even it out. Then you flock.
Always did enjoy these little instructional videos because their so relaxing and everyone is chilled back🤙 even Alexandra with her sparkling and non challant personality 🤗 great vid👍
BMW actually uses this technique on their interiors for things like the inside of the glove box and other things that aren’t obviously seen. However they don’t pump it on, they use a gun for both the adhesive and the flock and spray them both on before sending it through an oven. Finally, in order to get the extra flock off, each piece is manually sprayed off using compressed air.
I've never seen this in person be done but I like the outcome. So how would you detail you're dash after preforming this with as minimal damage to the fabric??
Great video as usual! Off subject, I really would love to see another video review of the Campagna T-Rex 16SP with just YOU ALONE driving, free to give your thoughts. Take Care and keep up the good work.
This is cool. I apologize but I’m taking a page out of your book in that I’m going to paint my IROC-Z 2.0 liter turbo project the same color blue. I know it’s a ford color but I fell in love with it. Love the content man keep it up
I enjoy your channel from most other car channels because your real chill and never on the hype crazy wild energy... Good job keep it up... Hopefully in a year or 2 I would like you to review my 95 240sx its in development... I agree first time I pulled my dash I was like damn this car will never be the same again it looked so technical. I should of flocked mines then instead of spraying it gloss black... I didn't even think of glare at the time worst choice ever... you should of really sealed up those cracks
@@alexbjarki5021 My family has had at least 20 different Subaru vehicles from the late 80s up to a 2006 Tribeca and all of them had perfect dash boards. Only real issue I have seen is a little bit of peeling on the covering of the door cards in the 90s Imprezas.
Flock is not anywhere near suede by the way. Flocking looks cool for 10 minutes. It gets faded quickly and cannot get cleaned. It's permanently dirty. Great for race cars, not good for a clean street car.
You’re right it’s not. But it doesn’t fade quickly and we’ve cleaned mine by vacuuming it. I haven’t had a problem with my dash for over a year of racing and sitting outside.
Unfortunately I'm on my 2nd Focus ST and one of the things I wanted to do with my first one was to flock the dash, but it was a 402a ST ( ST3 as they're better known ) so it had all those extra electronics and the touch screen to deal with so I felt uncomfortable wanting to do that. Now my 2nd ST is just a basic one so less electronics and wiring to deal with and I still want to flock the dash, but it's still a more modern car than something like a 240sx. I can only imagine how much easier it is to remove the dashboard out of an older car as opposed to a more modern one.
Definitely should have laid epoxy over, and behind the crack and sanded it back down. Would have made it seamless, and you would have a 1of1 MINT S13 dash. Came out very nice overall, tho. Good, even coverage.
Curious to why you wouldnt fix/fill the crack then flock? Why put effort in to making it look nicer just to half ass it. Great video, good results. The logic just throws me?!
I'm thinking about doing this to my Del Sol. looks clean. btw the chick in the video looks Beautiful 😍 lol like how she jokes around in the background 😆. anyhow, once again great video.
Love the dash David, but why do you keep having motors built? I’ve found jz’s to be most reliable when they’re stock. A stock 2j should be able to be at the 600 hp mark you had made EASY. Once you start building them they don’t always stay reliable tbh

@@101Cristiano100 Honestly flocking is way easier than wrapping the dash of a 180/240, but if you have the ability to do it in suede I just think its cleaner and has a better feel to it!
Do they have this in red? I would do this to my dash and the rear dash behind my seat.😮😮 pretty cool. I have cracks I can fill in with acrylic first to make the cracks smooth.
With a bit more prep the cracks can be fully "gone". Still, good result for minimum effort. I kind of want to do this to my complete interior which is all ugly hard plastic.
Pacmeezy187 you can’t really lay flock “thicker” because there is only so much the glue can hold. Trowing it by hand is a huge pain in the ass. The flock is way too thick in some parts and thin when throwing it by hand. It turns out much better with the applicator.
I'm thinking about doing this to my side door panels..Just trying to cover a few scratches..The top part of the panel is leather mid part of the panel is cloth Bottom part is plastic and that's the part I want to cover ....how do you think it will hold up It's for a Mazda six maybe I'll do all the panels for all the doors ,The dash already have a custom pad thats Swede
Almost all flocking dashes from the 80s/90s disintegrated if left in the sun. The only reason my 93 Crown Vic still has it's original dash is because it's spent most its life in a garage. Even still... some of the plastics are have been losing integrity in the past decade. Some stuff has been repaired with plastic welder epoxy... some with various forms of super glue. Most of it is screw support locations that aren't seen though, so it still looks mint. Also... insert flocking flock joke here.
Actual flocking companies ground the part to be flocked and use electro-static spraying guns. That way, the fibers stand on end and provide a nice, uniform application and feel. The DIY kits are pretty cool and worth the money though!
So satisfying!
Have you ever done this process?
Oh..and who can spot today’s Easter egg?
You should do a video on Saabkyle04's 240sx build in the future.
ThatDudeinBlue I did a carpet cover for my IrocZ dash. Looks good for the era of the vehicle. Might do something like this in the future though.

Maybe use Urethane so it has some flex?
I'd just use caulk and then flock it

some tips if you do flock another dash:
use a mask as to not inhale the powder
epoxy the cracks on the dash before you flock it
use gloves
