My aunt's funeral was December 13th, 2014. I was devastated driving to the burial site with my mother. This song was on the actual Christmas station as we drove, and I just....I instantly fell in love with it. As sad as I was, I memorized some of the words hoping to find this song when I got to a computer. Needless to say I found it. To me, this song is so beautiful that I consider it a personal modern day Christmas classic of the likes of Mariah Carey's "All I want for Christmas". It should be and most certainly will be. I'll never forget how this song made me feel while driving. It was beautiful. God bless this group.

This is currently my favorite Christmas song..I love to hear them sing just about anything..I actually listen to this song year round bcuz I like it so much❤❤❤❤
Usually, these guys layer themselves in. This builds tension and suspense, and makes their final sound more powerful. They're really good at it. This time, however, all five come in at once...and I love it. Even though the tone is soft, this record hits you hard and fast right in the gut, tugging at your heartstrings. It's amazing what these five can do; if music unlocks your emotions, prepare to feel tears streaming down your face.
OMG, that deep base!! Gorgeous sounding! I love this song for the dynamics and range of vocals. I'm not big on Christmas songs....most years they annoy me at best. Probably because it's usually the same songs done over and over again. So I really don't care for the traditional Christmas songs...but this song I absolutely love! The first time I heard it, I had no clue it was them singing it; just heard a song that I liked as I was waking up one morning. I listened to it again when I was finally awake and fell in love with it. Asked my mom who it was, and immediately face palmed myself in a "I should have known that." moment. I had heard this group a few times before, singing various songs, so I should have recognized the voicing and singing style of the song as one of this group's songs. I gotta say, it's now a Christmas favorite of mine, along with a few other songs that are Christmas songs, but not your average traditional songs heard day in and day out on the radio stations.
In September of 2014 I lost not only my grandmother but my bestfriend. It was such a hard time, seeing as that Thanksgiving and Christmas right round the corner. Thanksgiving of 2014 was not the same. We didn't say blessing like we always do, and everyone didn't talk. Till this day, we have become stronger but it still hurts . This song is so beautiful and makes me cry every time. It reminds me of the love she had for our family, and how she was the glue. I regret taking advantage of her presence and not spending a lot of time with her. Pentatonix did such a beautiful job with this song. Showing that Christmas is more than presents and material things. It's about family and the coming of Jesus. I wish everyone a beautiful Thanksgiving tomorrow, and Christmas aswell. Love one another and show your love for your family. Tomorrow could be the last time you see them.
I usually don't cry. But this was so emotional for me. Christmas is the only time in my life where I feel happy. And to see my favorite people sing this beautiful song.. It's too much, I lost it. I want to thank you Pentatonix. Not to single anybody out, but especially you, Mitch and Scott. You two have inspired me to continue on. I've never really had much strength in my life. I'm sorry @Jesus Bottom that your first reflection on that line has to be painful. But in whatever way your family is "gone" from you, they'll never truly be gone. You carry them in your heart, even if it's a little (or a lot) bittersweet. It's the line in the song that immediately brings a tear to my eye and it's mostly a tear of joy, but not w/o some sadness, too. The dissolution of marriages have fragmented both my family of origin and the family I chose to create. And of course I miss the grandfather and the brother-in-law who have passed away. And I know that, like the Flaming Lips song says, everyone I know someday will die...But family is family because they're the people we can't forget, for better or worse. "The joy of family" is a bit of an over-applied oversimplification, yes. But how would any of us learn and grow and eventually identify what it is we want out of life from our intention without the group of people - frail, flawed, impermanent people - who literally make us and then raise and shape us through everything they do or fail to do for us? We can be grateful for these people, bygone as they may be.
Finally a really heartfelt, peaceful Christmas song from them. Finally I loved it and I think it's because they sang about *their* Christmas not about Jesus. They could relate to this much better. Absurd, but apparently necessary disclaimer: I have absolutely nothing against Christianity. Christian Christmas songs are actually my favorites. I just think that they performed this song more delicately than most Christian songs.
Didn't Scott, Kirstie, and Mitch grow up in Texas? The chances that they grew up Christian is pretty high. Even if they aren't Christians anymore, they could still relate to the Christian aspects of Christmas. I'm not majorly Christian (I was raised Christian but I don't ever go to church or anything) but I can still relate to Christian Christmas hymns.
razrv3lc Well, yeah, maybe on some level, but I don't really feel it. They usually take those songs too loud and it looks to be more about showing their skills and making impressive music than about the message. Silent night was good, but songs like Mary Did you Know or Little Drummer Boy just don't have the delicacy that they should. Especially the Drummer boy. And Kevin shines in that song, while the rest look a bit forced. I bet they like those songs and can relate at some level, but someone who hasn't been in love can't fully feel a song about love or someone who's never been a parent can't fully feel a song about parenthood, etc. That doesn't mean they're bad performers, it's just how it works.

I cry in most pentatonix xmas song its too beautiful and im 8 i also just lost my both grandfathers and my fathers mother well she died before i could even meet her but they hit the spot and i feel so much better everytime i hear the voice of chrismas my dads father used to b a pastor he celebrated xmas every single year no matter how tired he is and i used to go travel to america most times bc most of my family is there but i cant go this year i have family in Jamaica so im good family is more important that all the gifts i can get in the whole world you see thats christmas to ME.

I don't remember a happy Christmas with my broken family. There was always fighting between my mom and stepdad, my dad was always depressed and my brother always scared. Haven't listened to this song in over a year, and it is an extremely nostalgic experience to listen to this again. I know it sounds weird to say that after only a year something is nostalgic, but the context makes that the case. Last year I moved to Brazil. It was the first time in my life leaving my native country, Argentina. Sure, they're neighbor countries, but their cultures and pretty much everything is completely different (and yes, of course this includes the huge and unnoticed differences between Portuguese and Spanish). It was a rough year. Didn't know many people, and I didn't really have what I would call best friends. One was pretty close to that, but he ended up being clinically depressed, and stopped going to school exactly a year ago, and only came back this year. I loved Pentatonix at the time. I knew every single one of their songs. However, I felt like there was a change ever since Matt Sallee joined. Not that it is a bad change or anything, Matt is great and he is perfect for the band and has a really charming personality, but I guess I still like more the songs that included Avi Kaplan in them, specially since Avi was my favorite Pentatonix member. I would listen to their songs at all times. When happy after having a good time doing whatever, when bored during or after school, when sad or lonely at night. I've definitely worn out a lot of their songs, but this is not one of them. This song takes me back to all I went through last year, which is obviously not even that bad when compared to other people's experience, like that friend that I mentioned. It's weird how I love having this song take me back without making me feel bad. Maybe that is because of how beautiful it is. Nostalgia makes me cry and get emotional, but it isn't necessarily due to pain. There is always a certain beauty behind nostalgia that makes this possible.

OMG, that deep base!! Gorgeous sounding! I love this song for the dynamics and range of vocals. I'm not big on Christmas songs....most years they annoy me at best. Probably because it's usually the same songs done over and over again. So I really don't care for the traditional Christmas songs...but this song I absolutely love! The first time I heard it, I had no clue it was them singing it; just heard a song that I liked as I was waking up one morning. I listened to it again when I was finally awake and fell in love with it. Asked my mom who it was, and immediately face palmed myself in a "I should have known that." moment. I had heard this group a few times before, singing various songs, so I should have recognized the voicing and singing style of the song as one of this group's songs. I gotta say, it's now a Christmas favorite of mine, along with a few other songs that are Christmas songs, but not your average traditional songs heard day in and day out on the radio stations.

In September of 2014 I lost not only my grandmother but my bestfriend. It was such a hard time, seeing as that Thanksgiving and Christmas right round the corner. Thanksgiving of 2014 was not the same. We didn't say blessing like we always do, and everyone didn't talk. Till this day, we have become stronger but it still hurts . This song is so beautiful and makes me cry every time. It reminds me of the love she had for our family, and how she was the glue. I regret taking advantage of her presence and not spending a lot of time with her. Pentatonix did such a beautiful job with this song. Showing that Christmas is more than presents and material things. It's about family and the coming of Jesus. I wish everyone a beautiful Thanksgiving tomorrow, and Christmas aswell. Love one another and show your love for your family. Tomorrow could be the last time you see them.

I'm sorry @Jesus Bottom that your first reflection on that line has to be painful. But in whatever way your family is "gone" from you, they'll never truly be gone. You carry them in your heart, even if it's a little (or a lot) bittersweet. It's the line in the song that immediately brings a tear to my eye and it's mostly a tear of joy, but not w/o some sadness, too. The dissolution of marriages have fragmented both my family of origin and the family I chose to create. And of course I miss the grandfather and the brother-in-law who have passed away. And I know that, like the Flaming Lips song says, everyone I know someday will die...But family is family because they're the people we can't forget, for better or worse. "The joy of family" is a bit of an over-applied oversimplification, yes. But how would any of us learn and grow and eventually identify what it is we want out of life from our intention without the group of people - frail, flawed, impermanent people - who literally make us and then raise and shape us through everything they do or fail to do for us? We can be grateful for these people, bygone as they may be.

I'm not majorly Christian (I was raised Christian but I don't ever go to church or anything) but I can still relate to Christian Christmas hymns.

They usually take those songs too loud and it looks to be more about showing their skills and making impressive music than about the message. Silent night was good, but songs like Mary Did you Know or Little Drummer Boy just don't have the delicacy that they should. Especially the Drummer boy. And Kevin shines in that song, while the rest look a bit forced. I bet they like those songs and can relate at some level, but someone who hasn't been in love can't fully feel a song about love or someone who's never been a parent can't fully feel a song about parenthood, etc. That doesn't mean they're bad performers, it's just how it works.

I don't remember a happy Christmas with my broken family. There was always fighting between my mom and stepdad, my dad was always depressed and my brother always scared. Haven't listened to this song in over a year, and it is an extremely nostalgic experience to listen to this again.
I know it sounds weird to say that after only a year something is nostalgic, but the context makes that the case.
Last year I moved to Brazil. It was the first time in my life leaving my native country, Argentina. Sure, they're neighbor countries, but their cultures and pretty much everything is completely different (and yes, of course this includes the huge and unnoticed differences between Portuguese and Spanish).
It was a rough year. Didn't know many people, and I didn't really have what I would call best friends. One was pretty close to that, but he ended up being clinically depressed, and stopped going to school exactly a year ago, and only came back this year.
I loved Pentatonix at the time. I knew every single one of their songs. However, I felt like there was a change ever since Matt Sallee joined. Not that it is a bad change or anything, Matt is great and he is perfect for the band and has a really charming personality, but I guess I still like more the songs that included Avi Kaplan in them, specially since Avi was my favorite Pentatonix member. I would listen to their songs at all times. When happy after having a good time doing whatever, when bored during or after school, when sad or lonely at night.
I've definitely worn out a lot of their songs, but this is not one of them. This song takes me back to all I went through last year, which is obviously not even that bad when compared to other people's experience, like that friend that I mentioned.
It's weird how I love having this song take me back without making me feel bad. Maybe that is because of how beautiful it is.
Nostalgia makes me cry and get emotional, but it isn't necessarily due to pain. There is always a certain beauty behind nostalgia that makes this possible.
