    The last few updates I believe resolved the issue with the RAW audio syncing. I don't have that issue with my GoPro 10. I have it on RAW with high and it sounds fantastic. Full range of sound and no distortion even in loud environments. It's nice having that separate audio track as a WAV file too

    I am planning to start recording on Infinix Note 11 pro 4k using 3.5mm audio built-in jack. I already have Rode Lav+ mic with long cable and a dual mic multiplexor.
    Was just considering using Gopro but I guess it's not the best option due to audio limitations

    • @ChrisSpiegl

      I mean, if you have the phone which can do very good audio in itself, there would not be any reason to go with the GoPro. Use what you have and all that.

      If you are looking to get the GoPro Hero 9 or 10, I'd go with the Media Mod and attache the Røde Wireless GO II so you have two transmitters and can even do interviews that way.
      As a backup, I would consider getting something like the Røde VideoMicro (around 60$) just to have a small shotgun that does not need a battery and is pretty good with the wind.

Also: Thank you for testing the Rode Video Mic NTG. I have one and would always want to use with the deadcat outside. I feared I’d end up with it in the shot. Thanks for confirming!

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you, that's great to hear that the video was helpful for you. In terms of VideoMic NTG and being in the shot: thanks to the design of the NTG and the ability to move the mic back with the rycot shock mount it can be out of the shot… but then it would be pretty complicated to still use a dead-cat 🙈.
      To be honest, I think the best solution really is to use a Wireless Go with a wind fluff.

    They should make a media mod without the built in mic but everything else the same at a lower price. They could even get away with keeping the same price with no mic if it's guaranteed rain proof.

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think that would be a great idea. And while they are at it, they should also give the MediaMod it's own connection to the GoPro mount. Because the way it is setup now, you always have to take the gopro 100% off of any mount to change batteries and access the SD Card. There is a lot they can improve 👍.

    I also got the media mod and I was also very disappointed by the sound quality of its internal mics. They sound worse than the gopro internal mics, no matter in which circumstances.

    Hello, thanks for this video. I just wanted to ask if there is a possibility to adjust the gain for external micros in the goPro?

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hello MinimalWave1982, sorry for the late reply but I wanted to make sure I tested this and looked at the available options first.
      Generally, there is no real "Gain" adjustment on the GoPro. This is the same with the Media Mod & External Microphones.
      However, with the Media Mod, it is possible to choose between 5 settings for the 3.5mm Jack which may be useful:
      - Standard (for microphones which do not need any power like for example the Røde Wireless Go II which is self powered).
      - Standard +20db (for microphones which do not need any power but you want the mic to be 20d louder).
      - Powered (for microphones which need "plug-in-power" like for example the Røde VideoMicro or VideoMic Go II)
      - Powered +20db (for microphones which need "plug-in-power" and you want the mic to be 20db louder).
      - Line (this is only useful when you connect a line out from, for example, a hardware audio recorder).
      I hope this explains that a bit and helps you with your question.

    I use a Go Pro Hero 10 with a media mod connected to the Rode Wireless Go 2 setup and have come across an intermittent issue: at times, the Go Pro stops recognising that the Media Mod is attached and audio input switches to the internal Go Pro mic - very annoying as most times I don't realise what has happened until I am reviewing my footage later.

    The media mod mic almost sound like it’s out of phase. Usually when you have phase issue with a mic it involves a second mic. When the two mics are summed to mono you’ll lose lots of low end when they are out of phase and the sound becomes nasally. Maybe there was weird setting somewhere using more then one mic?
    Or maybe the capsules was defective, a defective mic can also sound similar to that.

      Yes, the metering works with external microphones as well.
      Sadly only on the back display though 🙈.
      Something kind of annoying: the metering only works with the media mod mic enabled or the external mic selected (which is automatically selected when the media mod mic is active and a mic is plugged in).
      Sadly, the metering is not available if you just want to use the GoPro camera mics.
