This Baithak was great Panditji. Residing outside India, I miss all the concerts. We attend the Darbar Festival, but due to covid that is stopped. Now that I have retired, I have the time for my passion. Is there a book I can follow, which has only saregama practice. I have studied music in Baroda music college, but had to leave after completing my Diploma. Married and settled in UK. Now the children have left the nest and I have just retired from my job, I can focus on my love, music. I really enjoyed this lesson of Baithak. What a brilliant idea. What a great interview!! So much to learn from him.. the only thing i disagree on with Panditji is when he said that the singing closest to Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sahib is of him himself.. the closest in my opinion has always been of Pt. Jagdish Prasad ji.!!
Pinaki Sinha Biswas you’re correct....however pt Jagdish Prasad Ji had a certain jawari in his vocal texture that could distinctly be identified....If you listen to pt Ajoy Ji’s performance during 70s,80s and 90s you will find a very close resemblance with ustad Bgak’s style....Apart from these 2 legends Pandit Prasun Banerjee and Ustad Munawar Ali had the same flavour and sang very close to Ustad ji.....later on Pt Ajoy ji changed his style to form his own distinctive style ....But if his early recordings are heard it can be asserted without any doubt that his renditions were one of the closest to Ustad Bade ghulam ali’s style besides pt jagdish ji and the other 2 legends I mentioned......Pandit jagdish ji was one of the finest vocalists of his era and gem of a person however he didn’t receive the due recognition or acknowledgment and that is the biggest tragedy for listeners like us and same holds true for Pandit Prasun Banerjee and Ustad Munawar ali

What a great interview!! So much to learn from him.. the only thing i disagree on with Panditji is when he said that the singing closest to Bade Ghulam Ali Khan Sahib is of him himself.. the closest in my opinion has always been of Pt. Jagdish Prasad ji.!!

Pinaki Sinha Biswas you’re correct....however pt Jagdish Prasad Ji had a certain jawari in his vocal texture that could distinctly be identified....If you listen to pt Ajoy Ji’s performance during 70s,80s and 90s you will find a very close resemblance with ustad Bgak’s style....Apart from these 2 legends Pandit Prasun Banerjee and Ustad Munawar Ali had the same flavour and sang very close to Ustad ji.....later on Pt Ajoy ji changed his style to form his own distinctive style ....But if his early recordings are heard it can be asserted without any doubt that his renditions were one of the closest to Ustad Bade ghulam ali’s style besides pt jagdish ji and the other 2 legends I mentioned......Pandit jagdish ji was one of the finest vocalists of his era and gem of a person however he didn’t receive the due recognition or acknowledgment and that is the biggest tragedy for listeners like us and same holds true for Pandit Prasun Banerjee and Ustad Munawar ali
