Nobody Understands Kashimo

  • “Kashimo is a completely wasted character”. Yes, this is one of the most popular takes within the Jujutsu Kaisen community but I’m gonna be honest, it’s one of the worst. However, I think people just miss the point when it comes to his character, his purpose, and lesson to the audience. I’ve never really see anybody bring up really any analysis on Kashimo’s character, or anything like that; so I figured I’d be the one to make a video on it. In this video, I’ll be completely breaking down Kashimo’s final confrontation with Sukuna and performing analysis on both his character and what I take from this final battle of his, and with that; let’s get into it.

    I was the best.
Throughout COD Zombies, I alone was the honoured one (in my family)
I survived many rounds, slain hundreds of thousands of zombies to become the best.
Before I ascended to this point, when I was new to zombies, I found peace with competing with my fellow family members, where we all were relative to each other in terms of skill.
But, as I studied on how to survive more rounds, and improve my technique, I far eclipsed everyone I knew in skill.
There was this isolation I felt whenever I achieved a more miraculous feat, to the point where I felt none (again, in my family) could understand my plight.
This feeling changed through observation of my progress and diligence throughout the years, and acknowledging how much I was able to dedicate myself to my craft. Slowly, but surely, I began to enjoy the thrill of challenging myself in various ways and giving hints to others similar to me.
    My point is,
    Stand proud, you did good.
Regardless of whether you didn’t get that thing that you really wanted or if you got rejected by that person when you asked them out,
Appreciate the lessons you learned from it and carry them with you every step of the way.

Kashimo should have gotten more screen time in the time skip between Gojo's release from the prison realm and Shinjuku to interact with members of the cast. I could see him having some fun banter with Gojo and Itadori since he used to be Sukuna's vessel.

This exchange in the "afterlife" also shines a interesting light on Sukuna, it doesn't change the actual result of his moral stances, but it gives credence to some of his desires in life. Even at the top, the man finds pleasure in facing opponents with interesting, diverse and skillful applications of jujutsu sorcery, which directly ties to a sorcerer's self expression and forward thinking. He won't go down easy on anyone, but will "throw a bone" whenever he sees someone that need a push (as violent as that might entail) to become greater than they already are, even though all of his actions have self centered reasons.
There is a lot to unpack from Kashimo as well, the death imposing limitation of his CT brought forth a genius-like mastery of his peculiar, electrical based cursed energy. But in the meantime it symbolically reveals that this character always had a clear intention to give his life away in combat to stop what he defines as loneliness. It's a very tragic perspective, and it's just one reading/understanding among many, but there's definitively a lot that can be derived from this battle and from the discourse these two characters share at the end.

  • @Raphael-slays
    @Raphael-slays 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +120

Honestly Kashimo was the same as Gojo.
Both of them were so much isolated because of the strength which puts them into the realm of God amongst men. They both wanted someone to tell/teach them that why do they have to suffer....why does this strength brings the loneliness or They just wanted an answer if their thoughts about this were correct or not.
Gojo who wanted to go all out and fight the strongest... actually fought the strongest and was happy
On the other hand Kashimo was the yap version of Gojo, He knew there was no way that he would beat him but still just like gojo he went ahead and asked the questions which kept him isolated for 400 years (Yup a Cursed object can feel the time pass).
For me kashimo is a great character, My favourite line from the manga was delivered by him "Funeral for the living" also His fight with Hakari is my top 3 fights (manga)

People hate on kashimo for no reason and I feel like most people don’t understand his character,
he never thought he was going to beat sukuna, with how he was looking during the gojo vs sukuna fight and telling yuta nit to go cause this fight means a lot to gojo.I believe kashimo was smiling while watching cause he knew that sukuna would be able to convey what kashimo was looking for.
Also people don’t understand sukuna saying he’s going to “show love” to kashimo was sukuna saying he’s going to go all out and do to kashimo what kashimo did to his opponents and kashimo then realizing that he did show other people love with him fighting them to the death it’s why kashimo was able to die with a smile on his face just like gojo.
kashimo and gojo were there for them selves unlike the rest of the students who wanted to help save megumi, obviously gojo was trying to do that as well but it wasn’t his sole purpose to fight sukuna

This was one of the best videos, and disappointed because a lot of people in the comments thinking it’s about power scaling. I love the parrlels between kashimo and gojo, and kashimo empathy is truly developed. I think it’s very powerful that kashimo sees sukuna as a divine being, but disagrees with his hedonistic life style and deems it pointless. I feel a lot of the stuff sukuna does is seen as cool, but the narrative is saying the opposite. Yuji vs sukuna is more of an ideology battle than a physical one. Each person who has the title of the strongest conducts themselves in such a different way, and I wonder how kashimo would be if he had ally’s like Gojo. Kashimo knowing love but not seeing it reminds me of people who know how to fix easy problems in their life, but they mentally block out the solution. While the fights do involve the strength of the characters, you need to take a closer look to see that strength isn’t the main focus of any fight in this series. Dude is an actual monster and people need to understand that he has access to abilities that could go through Gojo's infinity due to it only working at the atomic level, with some of those abilities being his EM waves, light, different forms of radiation that fall under the EM spectrum, and he could potentially focus in on and nullify the electric field/atomic bonds of his opponents, instantly disintegrating them. I'm so tired of seeing people complain and say characters are wasted because they show up, fight, and die. this misses the entire point of jjk. It's a story about jujutsu sorcerers clashing with their powers and philosophies. Once a character has given all they have in a fight as tragic as it seems that's all they offer in the grand story. That was the cruel part about gojo, nobody cared about him as a person or really even tried to get to know him. They only saw him for his power. That's not to say he didnt have any depth though. Jjk like many other battle manga Express the characters personalities and views through the way they fight. That's sort of what gojo meant when he said he wanted to reach sukuna and make him understand by giving it his all. Jjk isnt a slice of life character drama driven story. So complaining that certain characters are wasted because they die after they fight is just missing the point. Their worth and meaning to the story only exists through their fights.

There's a story in the Bible, where a woman runs up to Jesus hoping to speak to him. Jesus gives her the moment she wants and when Jesus walks away, the woman's friends run over to her because she is on her knees crying. They asked her, "What did he say? What did he tell you?" After a moment, she gathered herself and told her friends, "He told me everything I have ever done."
I totally believe that we have seen everything that Sukuna has ever done. Not literally, maybe not even Sukuna's coolest looking fights in history but the point of it all, the useless of his actions, Jesus didn't have to stand there and tell the woman every moment of her life because whatever he said, explained everything that her life symbolized to her, which turned out to be mostly evil, and made her face it. Sukuna has faced his truth but he's always done the same thing, he's technically a boring character who hasn't had any growth in thousands of years.
The most actual character growth Sukuna has had, just happened after he killed Higuruma and had to stop, give pause and reassure that his asinine continuance of destruction of satisfying enough to continue to do it forever.

    My take away from Kashimo:
me personally, I’ll never understand him and his way of life. To me, life isn’t about strength. I’ve never admired people for how “strong” they were. And I don’t admire people who go around preaching “look at how strong I am”. I admire people who do good with what they have. Regardless of physical strength and what not. Who cares if you ripped? Who cares about how much weight you can lift? I care about the people who make life good, the people who work on making the world around them better.
I just want piece. From my experience, I know who I am enough to know that strength won’t change that. And I feel like these characters like Kashimo and Gojo didn’t know who they were outside of pure strength. But what I like about Kashimo was that he attempt to find out. And even tho he died, he atleast got to leave the world with a smile in knowing that he
    1. Made people he beat in the past feel acknowledged
    2. Got to know how he made his world different.
Think about it like this. A fish is trying to find the ocean. And wherever it goes he can’t find the ocean…not knowing it’s already in the ocean, and has been exploring everything is has to offer (it’s not about the fish and the ocean…) I think this relates to Kashimo because he was seeking for an answer when really, he already had the answer…he just needed the perspective change. I already found this perspective change. So seeing Kashimo go through this is exactly why I like him. It’s not about how strong he is.

My only problem with kashimo vs sukuna is that to me it feels like there wasn’t enough to it. This is purely from a combat perspective in a sense that there was so much more we could have seen from kashimo and his technique. This is mostly from kashimo being my second favorite character and that I wanted to see more from him especially against sukuna.

Kashimo got the fate Gojo feared. In the airport he told Geto he went out the way he would’ve wanted.
Going all out against a worthy opponent, the thrill of battling an equal; even the uncertainty of victory is a rush.
Dying of old age, to them that just means a lifetime of isolation.
He understood more so than the young modern sorcerers how important it is that Gojo fight alone.
Gojo stated he trained hard honing his body and perfecting his techniques. Yet he had no capable of pushing him to use all he knows beyond his limits.
To those who take pride in strength to such high degrees ( Kashimo, Gojo, Sukuna) an all out battle against a similar or potentially stronger opponent is always welcome.
    Hajime was a beast ⚡️

  • @zyaggho9185
    @zyaggho9185 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

My only major gripe with Kashimo is that his fight feels very short. It doesn’t feel like he had the title of strongest. If it was just slightly longer in a few places I think this feeling of wasted potential would go away.
Though with how the anime has been adapting scenes I’m sure it will pass. I guess I too am a little greedy like Kashimo wanting a scene to be extended for my own selfish reasons.

Just rewatched the vid to really take it in & boy was this a perfect character analysis for Kashimo. I can tell the passion that you put in this. His journey, his motivations, his personality, & you even did some Sukuna shit by proxy. Perfect
Referring to Kamutoke as a filter for the strongest is the best way I’ve seen anyone interpret it as. Everyone else seems to think it was for plot connivence & honestly I myself didn’t really figure out what the strategic reason for Kamutoke existing was. But I knew Gege was cooking. Glad he has a master taste tester here to dissect his masterpiece👏❤️‍🔥

I believe it would've been better if Kashimo felt like the Strongest since this is the only time he goes all out. It also would've solidified the theme due to someone who has reached the pinnacle going all out yet still on a clear downward spiral with the addition of showing Sukuna's enlightenment by answering Kashimo's questions. it would've guaranteed the Sukuna>Gojo that Gojo alludes too. Also, from the Sukuna gauntlet perspective, Kashimo is by far the most ineffective fighter. The only thing he accomplishes is having Sukuna use his reincarnation. Which, would be very beneficial, if only for the fact that the Sukuna was not and likely could not use any CTs, and his main source of damage(Kamutoke) was removed right after. Even if Kashimo never fought we would still be in the same position due to Sukuna likely using his reincarnation once Kamutoke gets confiscated by Higuruma.

Kashimo had one of the BEST deaths in the entire series. Dude got EXACTLY what he wanted to the T. He didn't care if he won. He wanted to die that way. That was the whole point. If he WON, then where would he be?? Back to square one lol
It's just compared to top tiers like sukuna, gojo, yuta, and possibly maki and Yuji, he's not all that powerful. Compared to everyone else? They'd struggle.

I never understood the Kashimo hate either. Sure, I wish we could've seen him in more fights, maybe even have his vs. Sukuna fight last a bit longer... but I never would've called him wasted. At the end of the day, Kashimo fulfills his purpose to himself and to the story as a whole. He learns from another what it means to be the strongest, why he has to endure the solitude his position brings and to the narrative he gives us an introspective into Sukuna himself, the main antagonist. He sheds light on one who was otherwise a complete mystery other than "strongest sorcerer in history." Before this point we had no idea what motivated Sukuna or what his end goal was.
Like it or not, as monstrous as Sukuna is based on appearance and personality, he's human. He's not a cursed spirit, he's a person with his own reasons for his actions. Does having reasons for your actions justify them? Maybe to yourself but to others? Hell no. At the end of the day, we have to accept that even the worst of us are still human. This goes for Kashimo as well, people only looked at him as the strongest when underneath all that power was a lonely old man who wanted to connect with others, not kill them.

The thing is, Kashimo and Gojo both do reach Sakuna in a strange way. Both of those characters had stood for something, in the same way he detests Yuji. They got him questioning what his purpose was, because he can’t understand what love or selflessness is at all.
So he projected onto Maki a shallow definition of a goal, cursed energy vs one who forsaken it, and felt victory, yet Yuji keeps turning up with his unbreakable determination and reminding him that Sakuna is lacking something.
In the same way that looking up at to gods won’t ever give you the meaning of life. Yuji doesn’t revere Sakuna as anything, he only seeks to end him for the sake of his friend. We aren’t meant to agree with Sakuna, but to see that he’s possibly the most isolated individual of all, just playing a role that has been placed on him for 1000 years.
