      A modified Kegger and throttle body with Tri-Y headers is a huge jump in torque. Port the throat, guide bosses and pushrod pinch and a 5.2 will surprise you, even with the stock cam and 9:1 compression. An SCT Tune is a must.

    The 480 lift single pattern has long been in my opinion the ideal 360 cam. Gobs of torque, beautiful inclining power curve, mild cams are the ones that give you decades off reliability. Love it. Can wait to put a .480 lift single pattern cam in my 360 LA

    I just bought this same profile in a 112 LSA for a 377 stroker SBC I’m building for my C20. Wanted something nice and fat in the midrange with plenty of torque, but that would idle well, be reasonably efficient, and not piss off the neighbors too badly at 4:00AM when I leave for work. Thanks for the Mopar dyno runs.....I've always been interested in how the 340-360 would fair against the 327-350 Chiev and the 347-351 Fords. I've used Comp Cams a lot and like the gradations that the cams come in.....seems like I could always find some cam to fill the bill in terms of what I was building.

  • @erikturner5073
    @erikturner5073 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    That cam would make for a great street driver in my 96 Ram SST. I've been considering that cam for sometime and expected that it would make those numbers. My motor is stock with headers, enhanced throttle body and modded kegger. I with the kegger port mods along with an improved belly pan from Hughes Engines for possible future blower plans. I did notice much easier breathing past 3k RPM. That cam, along with shaving the heads twenty thousandths for a compression increase should go nice! Or skip shaving the heads and instead add a centrifugal.

    I have always considered factory performance cams good enough for daily driving. This cam is still smaller then the daily driven cams available from chrysler. I would consider the 340 to also be a daily driven format in its day. And they have a bigger cam. I think this is even smaller then the little red express 360. (Ill double check). Point being. The 360 crate engines came with port layouts similar if not exactly the same as the "J" heads. A square hp/torque curve is what these power plants are know for and have been proven capable to me personally . 400hp/400 torque is the optimal daily numbers for the 360sb. The 224/228 .480 lift ta cam works perfect with the rest of the same components in this build.

I rebuilt an old LA 360 with some Magnum heads and a lunati roller cam (similar specs to the one in this video but a little more lift), RMP airgap intake and long tube headers. I really wish I had gone with some higher compression pistons with a quench surface, but that will just have to wait for next time. I still swear by the MP purple shaft 430/450 cam for automatics that see daily use. This is the upgrade for the factory stock 340 cam from Mopar. It'll run p/b, steering, and a/c all day with as little as a 2000 stall converter. Still works great in engines with as little as 8.5 to 1.

      @@BuzzLOLOL Yes, I agree and suspect this is why there does not seem be as big of a difference between the throttle body style fuel injection and carbs as one would expect. Still, it would be a interesting back to back test here I think.

    What about taking a stock and freshly rebuilt magnum and installing comp cams Xtreme Energy 20-745-9 cam? How much power am I gaining? It's in a 1995 dodge 2500 4wd club cab long bed. The engine has heads that flow a little more than stock and I'm running shorty headers too into a 3 inch straight pipe.

    Were you able to run stock springs with this can camshaft, or did you have try use aftermarket? Thanks, and love this Magnum series!

    It would be awesome if you could run a Hughes cam in comparison. In my experience they make much better power over comp. Those cams are designed for mopar which comps are pretty much built of chevy.

      @@richardholdener1727 I was told their Chrysler cams are specced off chevy with the exception of the purple cams. I could be 100% wrong. This info came from the guys at Hughes.

    G'day Richard. Does changing the power valve/s make a difference to the AF & BSFC curves? I can't remember if the PV is fed from the main jet or not. But I do remember Holley recommending "V" shaped wire being inserted into the metering block ports for PVs that are too rich. Or, does is the PV operating throughout the dyno run?

    Stock 360 Magnum has a 249/269 - .410/.417" lift. Smog cam. The 318 has a 251/264 - .432/.432" lift and worth putting in a 360 for decent torque increase!

      According to my Desktop Dyno, there would be a remarkable difference. The torque especially, showing modern day Hemi torque of 420lbs/ft torque but the power looks like it drops off after 4000rpm. I wish I could post a screenshot.@@richardholdener1727

    So what all had to be done to the heads for the added lift?? I was always under the impression that the magnum heads had a similar scenario as the Chevy vortec heads when it came to added valve lift?? Factory install height of 1.7?

    I am having fun with these videos. Good experiments. I have one (excuse me if you have done already...) that is interesting. Cam timing. Reason for asking - my 30 year old 340 build seems to be getting weaker, and runs inconsistent on the top end. I did a quick test of rotating the engine forward, and back, and seeing about 15 degrees of timing chain slop. EricTheCarGuy says 7 degrees is bad in this type of teset. So, I'm wondering if you have done experiments like this by retarding or advancing the cam to either decide how to set it up, but maybe more importantly know what happens when a timing chain is stretched.

    How would this exact same cam preform in a 318 Magnum, its mild for a 360 but would it be more of a performance cam in a 318? Would the peak HP RPM be a bit higher in a 318 application?
