      use my Israel_ palestine way: some whip lashes would help u great deal but not more than 4 lashes for its lifetime with great supervision and kindness! then don't try to bend the cat to be a thinking human diplomatic delegate, just help it to cool down its wild instincts

    It took 8 months for my cats to get along. They both sleep on my bed. I have individual food bowls for them and waters and kitty litters. My boy cat is a nice cat and the girl cat (the newer cat) is a fussy cat. I had them in separate rooms for a long time and then fed them at the same time and tried to play with them at the same time. She is so sweet and shy and bakut 6 months old. She has been in a small room these 2 months and Coco our male cat bullies her. She is cornered so we close the door. • @DieFlabbergast
      @DieFlabbergast 8 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      +Wendy Buckley Then your cat is unusual. Most cats feel safe inside a carrier, because, although cats may not be the Einsteins of the animal world, they're smart enough to figure out that if _they_ can't get out, no other cats can get in, either. Our cats is perfectly calm when in his carrier at the vets: it's when the vet takes him out of the carrier that he feels sure he's about to be murdered!

    I got lucky, My resident cat is a female named Shady, and she's a hisser and a crabby girl. My new cat Sonny is a male so nice, not a fighter but a lover. I followed most of the steps show on this video, and its been 2 weeks and the introduction was perfect, they are now sleeping in same room, eating next to eachother, playing with eachother. Match from God, im very happy, cause the first couple of days were rough, my resident cat went nuts over the sent and was hissin and went directly under the bed, it was like that for a week, then slowly with continued work, the intro went smooth and everything has been going great. Im surprised how well it went.

  • @1940limited
    @1940limited 9 ปีที่แล้ว +69

    When we got our male kitten in October we were concerned about how well our 8 year old female would accept another cat in the house. We kept them separated for about 2 days. To our surprise, while our female didn't particularly like the idea right away, she was never hostile towards the little kitty. She'd hiss at him if he got too close to her, but that was it. Within 3 days we felt comfortable leaving them alone when we went to work. The distance between the two of them before she'd start hissing gradually decreased. Within two weeks they were playing together. We're on our third generation of cats right now and never had any serious problems acclimating new cats to the residents. Perhaps we've been exceptionally lucky, but we've never had any of the problems discussed here.

    EXCELLENT VIDEO! I was looking after a stray outside for 2 weeks (I have a heated outbuilding) and was going to try this method. The cat rescue agency, Humane Society and my Vet all recommended the exact same steps as you, but it is so much more helpful to see it in action. I was also prepared to have the new cat rehomed if my indoor girl didn't accept him. Fortunately, we found his owners 2 days before the introduction. ❤⚠️⚠️ Tip to all cat owners: Get your kitty MICROCHIPPED! The first thing I did when the stray started hanging around outside was to take him to my vet to be scanned for a microchip (it's free). He didn't have one and it took 2 weeks of work between myself and 2 agencies to find his owners.

    I too am growing more and more as to these people that believe in long, complicated intro's they have way too much time on their hands and just thinking about it too much. All cats are unique (why I love them so much). Ive seen some of these complicated videos where the resident cat is fairly easy going..dont think it necessary to have separated so long. Ive had one cat I think I did it too rushed but he NEVER liked any cats ..he "tolerated" them. To this day I discipline him when he gets too aggressive and over the years he has softened quite a bit. I just give him and my other cat LOADS of attn and love regardless.

    This is the most helpful video I found !
    I have two boys here and the oldest one still feels threatened and runs away every time he sees the other one...it's been 9 years now 😭
    Me and my dad we live in one house but it's separated in two parts.
    I live in one part with my boy Ramses, my dad lives in the other part with my boy Bruce.
    Bruce is always running, and frightened if he sees Ramses.
    I will try the re-introducing but it's already a different situation to start from.
    I hope this works somehow.

    Day 3:
    our 5 year old male cat absolutely hates the new 10 week old female kitten. I think we might have rushed the introduction and cause a bad first impression. We'll go over these steps and hope for the best. If not, we'll have to take her back to the shelter. Please wish us luck.
    Day 5:
    We keep the kitten in a separate room and don't let her roam around the house. The big cat sometimes comes over to her door and by using a door stop, we let him see her and watch her. At first he hissed and growled a lot but now he just sits down and watches her without making aggressive noises. He stays for 10 minutes and gets bored and leaves. He is more comfortable with using his litter box today. At first he would either not use it at all or use it every ten minutes (which i am guessing is because of stress).
    No signs of stress is shown at this point. But we still have a long way to go.

    My cat situation: Day 2, cat lies under my bed and hasn't moved for 20 hours
    Update (7 months later):
    The older cat has died due to a metal stick through her chest but the (then) new cat is great and has grown soo much and I love her a little bit too much for a cat this is not a healthy relationship AND we've got a new second cat from the shelter and both are having fun together and it's a joy to watch them discover the garden because they've never been outside before and it's wonderful, both are incredibly sweet I couldn't wish for any better cats

    I did this exercise 15 years ago with my one year old male. I adopted a 7 month old female. They were separated about a week before they were introduced together in the home. It worked pretty well as there was very little aggression. Unfortunately my male should have been in a one cat household. He never fully accepted my female. They tolerated one another. My male just died and I am considering bringing a new cat into the household. My Vet has given me some good advice. He suggested I might want to foster a cat to be sure they get along before fully adopting.

    I have decided to adopt the stray cat that came to our yard the whole summer and I fed outside. He slept in my yard almost every night and cried at windows and doors to be allowed inside. My cats fought him through the windows and mosquito nets. Rn the new cat is quarantined at my friend's house after we tested him for viral diseases but when I bring him home i doubt any of this will work. They already seen each other, smelled each other, and fought through windows. So what should I do when I bring the new cat home? I was really thinking to let them solve their differences and maybe eventually end up tolerating each other..?

    What if my cats have lived together for 2 or 3 years and still don't get along? I've had Cassidy basically since she was weaned, Scout I got from a friend. They're both territorial now. In fact one lives under the bed and the new cat challenges the other one to come out. The only time my original cat (Cassidy) comes out from under the bed is when I'm sitting close to her feeding and watering bowls and she feels Scout (the new cat) isn't a reasonable threat. Scout sees this as her home (territory) now as well. I hate this situation. I know Cassidy does. Do I give one or the other cat away? Or is it not too late to fix the situation? They do fight, allot of times under my bed. Cassidy has resorted to use the bathroom under my bed as well, but Scout uses the litter box no matter how dirty it is. This is another thing I'd love to fix. Cassidy using the litter box just like Scout. Thanks for any advice you can offer! I'm quite familiar with the "STARE DOWN" now. Lol.

    If I already have an older female cat who previously lived comfortably with a male for several years (who has since passed), is a kitten with a non-dominant personality a good choice for a new 2nd cat?
    I am hoping maybe the old female would become maternal with non-agressive kitten, rather than a more
    intimidating older cat.
    Kittens have definite personalities. With the help of the people I get the kitten from, I plan on choosing one who is less aggressive and more "laid-back" than other kittens from the litter, or shelter, whichever the case.

      @@truthgambit - I wish you better luck than I had. I must have chosen the wrong kitten, because it didn't work out. He was a young male and would not stop pestering the older female. After 6 weeks of trying, I felt I had to take him back in to the no-kill shelter I got him from. I really felt like a failure, and felt terrible for the young male, having to go back to the shelter after 6 weeks in a home. When I took the young male back to the shelter, both of us cried all the way there.
      I will never know what became of that kitty, and I will be forever haunted by the uncertainty.
      I did not try again with another cat.
      Hopefully, you will do better than I did.

    My issue is our male cat does not live inside, he only comes inside sometimes when mum allows him for 30 - 60minutes a day at most or when we feed him and rest of the time he is outside. Our new kitten is always being kept inside because we are afraid to leave him outside at 6 weeks still young. The adult cat mostly ignores and avoids the little one but if confronted does hiss and appears a little aggressive.

It's your responsibility to make them understand there is no problem, which they do if you give them the time they need. Cats are highly territorial and not pack animals, so it doesn't make sense to them to share, you have to make them understand there is no issue in sharing.
