In schools here we are allowed to play and are encouraged to be as rough as possible while keeping safe. It taught me to tackle safe and get tackled safely. Sadly we can't play the same aggression with our big teams like the boks but yeah... the hits in this video are insane 😮

I had the pleasure of travelling to Hermanus in western Cape recently to look at the Whales. while there, there was a rugby tournament on a Hermanus High school. Let me tell you something right now, the under 14s and under 15s are man mountains in SA schools. I live in the UK and have been to watch the local Colts, under 18's. Under 18's are tiny in UK. Also UK clubs teams are not televising games like in SA. Most SA school games are televised. UK way behind considering they invented rugby.

My son plays school rugby for Jeffreys Bay for U13. He's a real beast with 12 years, 170 cm and 60kg and under 8% body fat. Just muscles. But he is a born Austrian with Austrian genes. It's the type of nutrition we have here - steaks, chicken, biltong and potatoes. In that age they have more than enough testosterone on their own. They don't need a juice to grow that big with this nutrition yet.

So many people who are in complete delusion about the reality of things. Rugby players are on gear. Pretty much all pro sports players are on some form of PED's because of the prisoner's dilemma.
South Africa gets way too much stick from foreigners for this but it happens everywhere. I went to Uni in Wales and already then so many teenagers were doing it even if they didn't play rugby! I trained with the Uni team in my first year for a month and then gave up after having played rugby since age 7 because the guys were just so large compared to me (I was 70kg at 5 foot 8 age 18 so pretty average) and it wasn't fun anymore with so much weight training being emphasised. As a natural I just had no energy to go weight train and then go rugby train on the same day. Steroids allow you to recover insanely fast and do insane amounts of physical work at a high intensity. It is why people on gear age so fast. Your metabolism speeds up to insane levels but you age at a much faster rate as a result. I had a buddy who also went to rugy with me and he hopped on to keep up with them.
The reason South Africa is singled out is because rugby is so prestigious over there and there are very few opportunities in a country rife with social and political issues and a shit economy. It is hyper competitive and the only shot at getting out of hardship for a load of the kids there. It's like football in Brazil. Other rugby countries have a much larger percentage of kids that don't need to fill their body with PED's in order to have a shot at a good life as they have way more financial opportunities open to them.
Look at players from the 1990's when guys like Jonah Lomu were freaky outliers. Exercise science hasn't improved that much to cause the average rugby player to be 100kg and 6 foot 2 compared to 85kg and 5 foot 11 in the 90's. People really overvalue nutrition and weight training as a factor for that.
The sooner people accept that everyone dopes at top level but that you can still enjoy the sport for what it is, the sooner all the smoke and mirrors around it will stop.

No not even close. Saffa school boys rugby players are bigger than your NRL players. League is an exciting code to watch but if you’re comparing size of schoolboy athletes, the Saffas are another level. Only schools. See that matches surpasses their size is the pacific island schools.
