One of the things that I love most about this video is that it isn't centered around his love for WWX. I feel like most analyses or edits about LWJ always focus on his intense and emotional love. And don't get me wrong, I love that aspect of his character but I love how this video really explores his own growth and realization about what being a Lan is truly all about. He realizes that right and wrong isn't always clear cut and he challenges the status quo of his sect, seemingly going against them but actually holding true to the principles more than anyone. He does this through his association with WWX but it's something he must face alone in some regards. It makes me excited to think about the future of the Lan sect under his guidance.
Karen Holl I keep coming back to this video and this comment because honestly? His character and his development is so good and theres so few places I’ve seen it so well portrayed.
@@gamer3d147 at the end doesn't he become the chief cultivator for the major clans? LXC kinda goes into seclusion for a while after the guanyin temple so i think LWJ is leading the sect
I want to applaud you because in this video you see Lan Wanji's character development, he changed in a way but at the same time he didn't. I think he's always been a righteous person, meeting Wei Ying gave him an other point of view about the good and the evil, but he kept on looking for the truth and justice while practising orthodoxy.
True. Wei Ying challenged the Lan's way of viewing the world in black and white, he showed him the nuances of gray as well, the slim line between bad and good, truth and lies, cruelty, mercy, justice and so on. Their differences made them work well together, both as a couple and as cultivators.
LAN WANGJI is easily the most strongest character out of the untamed. boy had to leave everything he knew, fight through everything he believed in, protect the one person who made him question his beliefs, stand against the one person he bowed to and respected his whole life while maintaining his righteousness, not afraid to stand against the world with the one he believed in. He really said everything without saying much.
Jesus. This is one of the most badass edits I've ever seen. Everything fit together so perfectly and the way you portrayed Lan Wangji's growth as a character really blew me away. He was always so silent about his pain and… damn. It's hard not to love him. He suffered so much. Him standing with Wei Wuxian 16 years later after revealing his one regret at Nightless City… it's incredible. Lan Wangji's bravery always gets me. This was amazing, thank you.
eragonsaphira inheritence ik right? At first I wasn’t sure about it as he seemed to be the type who smiled really easily(as I’ve watched him from when he was still in the group UNIQ)
I love this. It shows perfectly how one small thing or person can change our view on life. Open our eyes to the greys the world has to offer, to step away from being a mindless drone and be true to our soul and be the person we are meant to be. To stand by our own happiness in spite of what tradition states.
this was intense. one of the thing that hit me was lan wangji asking his shifu 'are there rules already set for everything in the world?' wangji growing up in a strict environment where everything has already defined as right or wrong, he never really had a chance to frame his own point of view of righteousness, doing everything according to rules, after meeting wei wuxian he sees a different pov and realises there is nothing as completely right or wrong but less right and right. lan wangji is an amazing character gosh i love him
This is truly beautiful and perceptive - everything I wanted to say has been said already! I just wanted to add something which just occurred to me - how his clothes change over the years. Besides the colours - after Wei Wuxian dies, so much more white (mourning) in his wardrobe, very little, if any, blue - his earlier outfits were so sharp in the outlines, especially the shoulders. Lan Wangji in his thirties has softer outlines: no longer inflexible.
Super sharp outlines is actually the reason why Lan Wangji's Sunshot Campaign outfit is a personal favorite of mine. He looks so regal in it but will be in the frontline when slaughtering enemies like a warrior prince. 🥰🥰🥰
The first time I watched the Untamed and saw the scene where he was told to stay in that cave for 3 years and copy those rules, I always thought how ironic it is that they punished him for doing what he believed was the right thing. And I also think that the sentence with "set up laws and good will be everlasting" was like a slap in the face for him. He knew it that killing off the whole Wen clan was wrong
The best thing about LWJ arc is that his principles never ever changed. He was set to be righteous and that was what he became. He only matured and grew up.
Imagine being brought up in such a rigorous environment. By such strict and firm rules, a lack of/restricted warmth from parental figures. Going by the book for 15- 16 years of your life. Being the key example to other disciples. Only for it to all be crushed by this one person u meet. This person breaks all the rules you’ve upheld ur entire life. U can’t help but resent them but then u can’t do that either since u see how genuine and righteous that person is. He becomes ur companion in the face of unforeseeable disaster. But also makes u question the core beliefs uve been growing around for ur entire life? The internal turmoil LZ must’ve experienced is unimaginable. He’d been sticking by the book since birth, but now he’s faced situations where sticking by the book doesn’t deliver his principles. This video quite nicely illustrates that conflict! It makes me really contemplate about LZ’s struggles
Amazing! You displayed Lan Wangji’s arc wonderfully. Going from ridge rule follower to thinking for himself and realizing the world is not as black and white.
This gives light to such a dilemma for Lan Zhan and most of us as well, because not everything is black and white, right or wrong, there will always be that grey area in life.🙃🐇🦁
Wow! Well put together. Both so beautiful. Wanji developing into his own person was so rewarding to watch. He took the teachings of his Uncle and Brother. But found he needed to make his own path even if it disappointed his family. Wei Ying was never evil just unorthodox. The times called for it. Wanji just failed at supporting Wei Ying during that critical moment in Nightless City. Hence his deep regret.
I can't say that Lan Zhan gave up a lot because every character in this drama/novel made tremendous sacrifices. But Lan Zhan's must have been difficult considering the way he was raised. In Asian culture and especially in China, traditions run deep. Respect for elders and those who raised you is held accountable at a very high expense. It takes guts to stand up against traditions and even more courage to voice out an opinion that'll ruin your reputation. Lan Zhan giving up all that for what he saw was right, is major character development.
Lan zhan gave up a lot, and it is true with so much pain in his heart he waited for his mother and wei wuxian to come back, he had no one but only his brother at that time, that can understand his emotions but not depth of it
Wow, what a thoroughly well made edit! It highlights all the internal and external struggles LWJ had to go through and that too very well edited with such fitting dialogues. The progression in his character is really astounding when you see it compiled like this. It's when I see edits like this that I wish we had CQL written in LWJ's point of view. I feel like his thoughts and turmoil regarding his sect, his family, and WWX would be so profound, and it makes me genuinely curious to know exactly how he felt throughout the story.
Actions speak louder than words. No one ever embodied that saying more than Lan Wang Ji. WWX was the catalyst for him to see that even if the entire world says it’s “good” it’s not always the case.
I identify so much with this character, having been raised in a fairly restrictive form of orthodoxy. I know how painful it is when you begin to see the cracks in a worldview you were raise to see as absolute. I mean, he's clearly prettier, more righteous, and has better hair. But, you know, generally I identify with that arc.
i'm a month late but!!!! wow!!!! this is honestly so amazing! i've always loved lan wangji's character arc and how he transitioned from someone who has a clear distinction from right and wrong (by the principles/rules of Gusu Lan Clan) to someone who realizes there is a grey area, and what they call as evil can actually be used for the greater good. his development in the live action is honestly so evident yet some watchers can't see it (for some reason) and tbh this video highlights it!!!! i love it so much tysm
It was so great to see a really smartly edited video that focussed on the character growth of Lan Wangji. Of course we all adore the slow burn love story. But it was the way he wrestled with his upbringing and principles. right and wrong ,and how he matured as a result of that pain and confusion, which really made me love him and a character. The scenes were really well picked, and I enjoyed how often you showed him alone, as it was something he went through by himself in a lot of ways. I also liked where you spliced several shots together to have him raise his gaze (in contrast to scenes with his uncle, representing the Lan strictness, where Wangji rarely looks him in the eye). Nicely done!
Love the edit. I only watched this drama just recently and I fell in love instantly. The character arc LWJ goes is absolutely amazing. Through WWX he starts questioning his belief system and everything he's been taught his entire life. All the time he spent "fighting" WWX it was infact, him fighting against his own self and trying to understand. Im the end he becomes his true self by deciding that clear conscience is what matters most. That's why I feel both LWJ and WWX got 2nd chance at life and love. These are exceptionally written characters.❤
I usually never write a comment but wow... this edit really does deserve WAY more views! You portrayed his character so damn well and really highlighted the main struggle of Lan Wangji. I often say that his struggle with what is right and what is wrong is one of the hidden but really important parts of The Untamed. Throughout the whole show you can see how he clearly is trying to stay loyal to what he always preached and studied for YEARS but he can't deny that Wei Wuxian is saying the truth all along. Idk how else to explain it hahaha I am not THAT fluent in english but I hope you understood what I meant. Just know that this edit might be one of the best edits I have EVER seen and I am for sure gonna share it. Keep going!!
Even after watching it a 100 times. I still get goosebumps. I still feel the pain, heartache etc. with this video. I love it. I love it from the bottom of my heart. My heart really cant take it at all. I never was in a bl fandom for this long but since I read the first few chapters when it just started to be translated i was hooked and here I still am after this long haha. Thank you again for this video thank you so much you showed and analyzed lan wangji so perfectly here. Its beautiful. Seriously I send all my love out too you!
Omg lovely edition. I really loved the whole internal crisis processing of Lan zhan's character . All the storm he went through in his mind , led him to a greater understanding of moral issues and human ideology . Of course wei ying is the leader of changing perspectives and embracing relativity or else this story wouldn't be born.
this really does hammer home to the core of Wangji's being which is that he was effectively raised in an emotionally abusive situation, as a person who presents which autistic traits, and by a man was himself extremely influence by witnessing his brothers choices leading him towards a bath to ruin. Lan Wangji is lost and alone in way that so connect him to Wei Wuxian, but there is still so much of his social conditioning to over come, and you really manage to convey that in this video
beautiful thrilling video, the best ive seen so far. it encaptrues Lan zhans fight and change so beautifully. well done, very well done. keep doing what you do.
OMG!! This is one hell of compilation! It's like a trailer to The Untamed from LWJ perspectives! I love it! You managed to edit the right parts of the scenes perfectly. And the background music is just perfect! Well done! And good job! Thank you for doing this...
I love Lan Zhan's character so so much! His character is the most growing one out of others..he becomes stronger and stronger..and then willing to leave his reputation behind just to fight beside his soulmate..it's beautiful🤧
I think this has to be my favourite The Untamed fanvideo :) Lan Zhan is my favourite character and you portraited beautifully his conflicts and his growth arc. Gorgeous edit!
Best Lan WangJi edit, as a character out of the novel, and out of the The Untamed so far. Thank you, just thank you so much for not including too much wwx in it, cause even the best editors somehow seem 'fail' a bit when it comes to the right 'amount' of the two of them in one vid. Oh, and, with no offense to anybody, really, thank you for no 'sweet moments between wwx and lwj'... I like it too sometimes but the essence of that wonderful story tends to get washed out too much cause of all that sweetness... At the end, thanks for a fantastic tribute to Lan WangJi.
Oooooh, I absolutely loved the parallel between past Lan Zhan asking Wei Ying whether he'd abandon the "right" path and the present Wei Ying asking the same of Lan Zhan! Chen Qing Ling really is all about what's right & what's wrong, who's black & who's white and how it's not that clear at all. Loved the mv portraying Lan Zhan's struggle with it.
I just came from watching another amazing LWJ video to this one and wow, this fandom is really full of such talented people. Seeing him from how he was from the start to the end.. you did such an incredible job in showing us that! This is definitely one of my favorites. Love it, and such excellent job!
I rarely commented on fmv wangxian even tho i watch a hundred of it but... your fmv is so good,it really portrays how lwj is pov slowly change because of wwx.
This is amazing! How did you manage to get me absolutely PUMPED to watch something I've already seen? You did such a good job of showing wangji's journey of finding his own moral footing in life rather than blindly accepting the strict unwavering teachings he's been fed from birth. He's such an wonderful character!
I really hope you still read your comments, because that was fucking beautiful. I loved how you could see how lan wangji involved, how he grew up and how he rethought his values and moral. LOVE THAT. It had awesome story telling qualities ^^ You picked really good scenes aswell so yeah! Just job well done mate! Hope you keep this up!
This is an amazing, beautiful and very powerful video showing Lan Wangji's growth. We see the pressures put on him by his clan and the consequences of the heavy responsibilities which weigh down on his shoulders. Thank you for this video. ❤️
this is shaping up to be my favorite cql edit, the editing is just incredible from start to finish, esp the ending. i went back to the scenes after watching this edit and was amazed by how much more impactful your edit had made those exact shots become..........aaaa thank you so much for sharing!
Lan zhan the most righteous person in the whole cultivation world, who loved A person with all his life, who waited for his love for 16 years, who stood side by side his lovers, who protected his lover with everything isn't this should be his introduction?without wei ying he is also A character who is the best lover in this whole cultivation world...🤗🤗
This is very impressive! The intense music kept me at the edge of my seat. The parallels are very well chosen. I just wish you would have sticked to one translation in the subtitles. Especially the part with who is good and who is evil, every time it is mentioned you use a different translation which takes away a bit of the effect. But I guess that is hard to do if you don't understand any Chinese at all... still loving this edit!
Thanks for your comment! As I said the translations are not mine so that’s why the sentences are different 😅 I didn’t want to misinterpret anything so I just followed the translations
@@onceuponavideo7143 Yeah, I get that. I don't really know why the official subs are different all the time. I feel like they let a different translator work on every episode.
Thanks so much for making this video. Wang Yibo performance was so stunning. I didn’t even expect from idol person like him. I was stunned and he really captivated me
SORRY FOR SPAMMING BUT HNGGGGG THE WAY YOU PUT HIS WHOLE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT INTO LESS THAN 4MINS, ALL THE PARALLELS!!! SHOWING HOW LWJ STARTED OF BELIEVING WITHOUT DOUBT IN HIS CLAN AND THEIR RULES AND THEN SLOWLY STARTING TO DOUBT AND QUESTION AND ABANDON ALL THAT TOO FOR THE PERSON THAT CHANGED HIS LIFE SO IRREVOCABLY I WILL GO CRY NOW
This is just so well done, let me just admire you because you just show how much he have developed and didn’t change at all. He did what it’s was right in his eyes he didn’t care about what people think about him he just did what it was right to do.
I watched the clip twice so as not to miss any insight. You couldn't have analyzed Wong Ji better, and yes, more and more could be added. I think he's a fascinating character precisely because he doesn't speak much and precisely because he is restrained and conservative with a rigid and rigorous upbringing, his eyes and behavior express all the inner dissonance felt by Wang Xien. Wong Xian makes him wonder and undermines all the elements of his life, causing him to turn his back on everything he believed in, wondering and actually making him develop and grow and grow. To see how this quiet, engaging character gets amazing and admirable content and not just an admirable look, it's really admirable. Two wonderful actors who brought this story to life and brought us a really special masterpiece. i wish there will be second season, its one of those stories that u want to keep going on and on....
I think this clip about Lan Zhan's personality and life in general couldn't have been better summarized than his last words in the video; 'too much talking' ! That says everything really.
Lan Zhan had to go against his family and everything he thought it was right because he understood that what they taught him with all the rules was going against to his promise in protecting those who are weak and there's no black or white. Who is right, who is wrong? Who is black, who is white? Wei Wuxian helped him realize that rules are not always good and that he must have no regrets, even if that means being punished, Wei Wuxian taught him he has a heart and unlock his feelings
this is the best cql fanmade video! it displays and explains his character development and the core question of the entire drama (and mdzs novel) so extremely well! wow
Got me thinking, how far LAN had to grow and change to stand by WWX’s side. 🥺Thanks so much for the fantastic video. If you’re not careful. Society can dictate what is evil/good, right/wrong. Lan Wangji’s character has he a strong moral common sense that I loved.
I have seen COUNTLESS Th Untamed edits for the past week (when i finished the drama) but I really have to say that this one is by far my favourite! It just shows Wangji's character development perfectly and is just generally super well edited!! Thank you for this😊

this really does hammer home to the core of Wangji's being which is that he was effectively raised in an emotionally abusive situation, as a person who presents which autistic traits, and by a man was himself extremely influence by witnessing his brothers choices leading him towards a bath to ruin.
Thank you!
This is amazing. You have highlighted exactly why LWJ is such a compelling character. Kudos to you. Your editing is brilliant
OMG!!
This is one hell of compilation! It's like a trailer to The Untamed from LWJ perspectives!
I love it!
You managed to edit the right parts of the scenes perfectly.
And the background music is just perfect!
Well done! And good job!
Thank you for doing this...
Thank you so much!
Omg yes! Seriously!
One of the most powerful fanvideo. No words. Its unbelievable.
I agree
Well this edit is a character study of Lan Wangji so of course I focused the edit on him!
Thank you so much for your comment!
This is so GOOD, it shows his roots and what changed and the GROWTH. Literal goosebumps
Little lan zhan must have been so adorable
I just came from watching another amazing LWJ video to this one and wow, this fandom is really full of such talented people. Seeing him from how he was from the start to the end.. you did such an incredible job in showing us that! This is definitely one of my favorites. Love it, and such excellent job!
Thank you so much!
GOD I love this so so so so so much. Lan Wangji is the only man who will never disappoint me.
yibo nailed the role as lan wangji
he is a great actor
I rarely commented on fmv wangxian even tho i watch a hundred of it but... your fmv is so good,it really portrays how lwj is pov slowly change because of wwx.
This is amazing! How did you manage to get me absolutely PUMPED to watch something I've already seen? You did such a good job of showing wangji's journey of finding his own moral footing in life rather than blindly accepting the strict unwavering teachings he's been fed from birth. He's such an wonderful character!
This edit is so marvelous,I love it, it's all about lan zhan knowing what's evil, bad, pure and good.
Lan Wangi é aquele personagem que ganhou um espaço muito especial no meu coração. Amo muito
GOD LAURA I DONT KNOW WHAT TO SAY HOW DO I MOVE ON WITH MY LIFE NOW OH GOD
Wangji is a total boss. Pure hero. So powerful a character. Yibo portrayed him brilliantly.
This was a fantastic view of his maturing process
I really hope you still read your comments, because that was fucking beautiful. I loved how you could see how lan wangji involved, how he grew up and how he rethought his values and moral. LOVE THAT. It had awesome story telling qualities ^^ You picked really good scenes aswell so yeah! Just job well done mate! Hope you keep this up!
Of course I do! I check the comments almost every day :)
Thank you so much!!! That’s very nice!
This is an amazing, beautiful and very powerful video showing Lan Wangji's growth. We see the pressures put on him by his clan and the consequences of the heavy responsibilities which weigh down on his shoulders. Thank you for this video. ❤️
The Untamed will always be one of those masterpiece dramas that will always be remembered
THIS IS ... THIS IS AMAZING!!! WOAH.!! you captured his development perfectly!!!
this is shaping up to be my favorite cql edit, the editing is just incredible from start to finish, esp the ending. i went back to the scenes after watching this edit and was amazed by how much more impactful your edit had made those exact shots become..........aaaa thank you so much for sharing!
Aaah thanks a lot that’s very sweet!!
He don't speak a lot but his actions speaks volumes! ❤️
I think this is the best performance of Yibo so far
Thanks so much for making this video. Wang Yibo performance was so stunning. I didn’t even expect from idol person like him. I was stunned and he really captivated me
The character development 😩😩😩 amazing!
Adorei este personagem do Yibo ( Lan Zhan). Maravilhoso.
SORRY FOR SPAMMING BUT HNGGGGG THE WAY YOU PUT HIS WHOLE CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT INTO LESS THAN 4MINS, ALL THE PARALLELS!!! SHOWING HOW LWJ STARTED OF BELIEVING WITHOUT DOUBT IN HIS CLAN AND THEIR RULES AND THEN SLOWLY STARTING TO DOUBT AND QUESTION AND ABANDON ALL THAT TOO FOR THE PERSON THAT CHANGED HIS LIFE SO IRREVOCABLY I WILL GO CRY NOW
I’M SO HAPPY YOU LIKE IT THANK YOU SO MUCH
In this drama there’s beautiful peoples everywhere, yet he still rise above
One of the best edits of wangji !! OMG !! Amazing 👏
I love this, you have captured lan Wangji perfectly. Great editing and wonderful choice of music
Evolution of Lan Zhan's character.... The MV's so good... 🙌🙌🙌🙌
My favourite LWJ video, thank you for sharing ❤️
THE BEST LWJ EDIT I'VE SEEN SO FAR!!!
BREATHTAKING IS WHAT I'LL SAY IT WAS🔥
Honestly this is the best video I've ever seen summarizing Lan Wangji's growth. You did an amazing job. I am in awe!
Thank you so much!!
This is amazing..I got tears in my eyes..I love Lan Wangji so much..
Heh, those two impacted each other a lot. I adore both of them
I must say, Lan Zhan smolders a lot. Lol but this is amazing. Great edit. The music worked well with the building tension. ^_^
honestly I always come back to this edit, it’s one of the best I swear, there should be more views. Good job either way
Thank you so much!!!
My my, its things like these that remind me why moving on CQL is so difficult..Damn I love this edit! Thank you
thank you for this amazing edit!! It shows perfectly his development through the years
This is just so well done, let me just admire you because you just show how much he have developed and didn’t change at all.
I always seem to come back to this video! It’s just sooooooo good!
Thank you so much !!
Amazing u can feel his pain and struggles even more... Thank u
my most favourite and most watched video of Lan Zhan to date
There should be a movie about his life and this should be the trailer for it!!! This is really great!!
Thank you!!!
This is stunning.
Except that I can't see all the translations against Wangi's pure white outfit.;)
Wow! I have no word to express what I felt while watching your edit. The music and every scenes that you choose make it just perfect. I love it!
Lan Zhan had to go against his family and everything he thought it was right because he understood that what they taught him with all the rules was going against to his promise in protecting those who are weak and there's no black or white. Who is right, who is wrong? Who is black, who is white? Wei Wuxian helped him realize that rules are not always good and that he must have no regrets, even if that means being punished, Wei Wuxian taught him he has a heart and unlock his feelings
this is the best cql fanmade video! it displays and explains his character development and the core question of the entire drama (and mdzs novel) so extremely well! wow
This is a master piece...I cried... Thank you for this !
Thank you for this😊
Thanks a lot!!
That what I call incondicional love from Lan Zhan 😍😘💋💖
so so beautiful!!! very grateful to you for this beauty
Not me crying alone in the dark while my cat judges me 👁👄👁
Just video title was enough to make me cry yet I watched while video and now I am all soaked with tears
LAN ZHAAAAAAN
Loved this so much!!! Just finished watching the untamed and i cant get over it. The chemistry of this cast is honestly amazing. I hope they're able to work in the near future. Especially Wang Yibo and Xiao Zhan.
I loved the section of the video with all the books of Lan Clan rules, that was a really nice choice!
See that *thanks for watching* at the end
Me : NO THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS T-T
I did not know I needed this in my life omggggggg. I love the overall theme and progression you laid out, especially the parallel (lol ur description) of Lan Zhan/ Wei Ying asking each other the choices at the end. Ugh so good. Subscribeddddd
