If drilling a hole in a wall just get an envelope, stick it to the wall with masking tape underneath where you’re drilling and let the envelope catch the dust. No plastic bottles or vices needed. 😊
After I have turned 2 water bottles into a “drill-debris collector” and another bottle into a “nut sorter,” what do I do with the other bottles I use? Do I need to convert them to the same items so I won’t ever throw away another plastic bottle?
Cutting the first bottle was a bit dangerous as you were cutting towards yourself... One slip and that knife would do some serious damage. I would hate for that to happen to anyone. The milk jug separator wi a brilliant idea and I have a 5-gallon pail that is FULL to the rib with nuts bolts washers screws and such; this is ideal for what I would need to separate them. I cannot even move the bucket as it is just too heavy for even 2 men to lift... Thank you for some great ideas!
@@EmpathyStories86 Not tried it yet as I have other projects that need to be finished and moved out of the space where the 5-gallon metal pail is. It probably weighs a hundred pounds or more. I cannot move it alone!! I also do not drink milk so getting the milk container would be only possible on recycle day.
Glad someone else highlighted this too. I worked for over 30 years as a joiner and during that time saw some really bad accidents with people cutting towards their hands.

no you are wrong and he's wrong, it was all DONE WRONG!!! You are supposed to hit it with a centre punch to prevent the bit from wavering. Can you imagine if he had to find another cap!! Wasteful.
I have been rifilling the same plastic "recyclable" water bottle for almost 2 years!! And no holes needed to be drilled in it!! When it finally gets a crack, I will have to put it in plastic recycling rececptacle and get a new $1 bottle of spring water from Walmart.
Very clever! I wish there was a way to do that with a drill press. I’m in Wood guild and we make wooden toys for different children’s organizations. We drill a lot of holes on our drill presses. It’s the biggest mess in the shop.
You can find your screws easier and pick them up easier...so save all your caps because next time you buy a box of 1000 screws or 10 pounds or whatever, you can sit down and fasten each one to a bottle cap so if you are it a hurry you will be able to find them and pick them up easily!! Excellent project. Thanks for sharing - a great way to keep all those plastic water bottles out of the wastestream and threatening out previous sustaibnable resources. A favorite kitchen hack of mine is to poke holes in a plastic kitchen garbage can bag. That way that bag doesn't get all puffy when you add items - which of course means fewer plastic kitchen bags also enter the wastestream Works every time.
So he goes to all the trouble to make that tray out of a milk jug, & still throws most of it away. I think it'd be easier to recycle the whole thing & just sort out the screws like a normal person...
I like the dust catcher, but you don't even need the bottom bottle, just don't bore a hole in the cap of the top one. And why are you throwing away that perfectly good wood filling dust? lol
Please learn how to use a utility knife in stop cutting towards your hand before you sever your tendons that's a very expensive corrective surgery cut away from your hand.
Easier to use an envelope. Open the flap up, and use sticky tape to stick the envelope flap to the wall just below where you want to drill the hole. As you drill the hole the sawdust falls into the envelope, peel the envelope off and empty the sawdust into a bin.
