Four us swam through it with lifejackets and flashlights. There was a place a little way in on the trestle end where it looked like the cement lining was failing, otherwise it is in good condition. I was told that someone has already run a powerboat through (maybe 1977) so that steps it up some. The wires and strings hanging from the ceiling fixtures were a little creepy in the dark. It was an amazing experience.
That is pretty bad ass. Thank you.I’ve camped on Shasta many years ago with a big boy speedboat , But your journey was far more inspiring than a dangerous journey to the top of the dam. Well done.
Hi Barbara!! I'm an anchor for KRCR Newschannel 7 out of Shasta County! Just saw this video and it's incredible...I'd love to show it on our news tonight and give you all the credit and everything! Let me know what you think!
I’m not sure why, but this is some incredible footage......well, to me. It evokes a myriad feelings/emotions. Just wild! Edit: hope you got to show the footage on your station.
Craig ... I suspect another 5 ft lower and the track bed will be exposed. At that level it may be a difficult walk depending in how much silt is on the bottom.

Fancy meeting you here......I’d just come from watching your video about this trestle and tunnel. It’s a small world!

Thank you so much for sharing this once in a lifetime adventure !!! Amazing!
Very cool! Thanks for sharing!
I take it that when a train needs to use the tunnel, they lower the lake and later refill when train traffic subsides?
Train hasn’t been down there in like 80 years 💀
@@number8139 Wow, that would have been around 1941. I was just being stupid and was proving to my wife that she is correct in her estimation of me:)
Beautiful territory but sad the water is so low
Such a serene experience, why could they not chatter for ten minutes?
That was so cool thanks for sharing :-)

Dylan check out Jeremy Tuggle on YT too. He got some good lake footage as well.
Wow! Thanks for sharing.
These tunnels are visible only because the water level is extremely low?
Yes
Why is it flooded? did they bill a dam and made a Reservoir
Why did someone put train tracks through a lake maybe for a underwater tour?
Ya'll braver than I am!
Lol right that was to creepy for me🤣
Someone should have played a recording of a steam engine when they were half way through.
OMG they would have freaked ha ha!!!
Gotta love the smoke this year. Our lakes are a mess up here in montana too
How much does the lake need to drop before you can walk through the tunnel and whole bridge is seen.
I have no idea. If it does get that low the logistics of trying to get there could be a problem... mud would be an issue.

Where did you launch your kayaks?
Sugarloaf public launch. A bit of a maze of dirt roads to find it with the water so low.
How low is the water now 6-19-22 ?
The current elevation of the water level is 945.45' as of 6-19-22. Full elevation is 1067'
Cool thanks!
Cool.
It got dark in there!
Very cool video, that looks like fun. Could a paddle board get to the tunnel or is it too far from the launching point?
Yes , a paddle board could get thru the tunnel but the ideal lake elevation would be 912 - 904. Launch area gets very muddy at the lower elevation.
What was that tunnel for?
Is that fog or smoke in the air
It is smoke from either the Dixie fire or the Monument Fire.
Superb KayaKing through un tunneL.
Great video.....but this is how horror movies start! :)
Pretty soon you can run steam locomotive through that tunnel.
The tunnel has partially collapsed since this was video'd.
Do you have any details in this collapse?
Next time bring a brighter light
