@@jewishsinger613 you missed the almost in the comment. But the guy they picked is prefect for the every man kind of character they were going for in this so good enough I say. But I do like as much authenticity in my historical movies as possible you want to feel like your watching actual history and so in that regard it is a bit of a shame but I’m sure there’ was a good reason for why they picked the guy he did nail the role. As for Hollywood it has had an over abundance of "diversity" of late. The lack of it here in this movie was defiantly a breath of fresh air.

    • @rilonius2865

@@jewishsinger613 Henk Rodgers is partially of Indonesian descent, but is mostly ethnically Dutch for the most part. When Indonesia was a Dutch colony, many Dutch settlers interbred with native Indonesians, but when Indonesia got independence, almost all the Dutch settlers and people their descendants including the mixed ones were migrated back to the Netherlands. There is a lot of Dutch people with partial Indonesian ancestry because of that. Taron Egerton is a pretty accurate representation of Henk Rodgers. If you looks at old photos of Henk Rodgers, you can find that he looks similar except with darker skin from his Indonesian ancestry.

You completely misunderstood the licensing issue.
Stein's original contract includes computers and videogames (console) because it used a broad definition of computer. This was Stein's trick, which Elorg did not catch.
So Henk did sub-license videogame properly, but showed Elorg how the original contract with Stein screwed them.
That's why they pressure Stein into signing a new contract, which is amended with a narrower definition of "computer" so that now, Stein loses videogame rights.

I am a tetris player since early 90s, yes I am old. The movie was beautiful as it had the political climate at those (last) years of USSR, the history, riskiness of entrepreneurship, the complicated world of patent or license rights, meaning of freedom, suppression, integrity of a character in trade for true partnership and foxy bad partner screwing up everyone, friendship, loyalty, family…and the songs were just nice surprises in exciting scenes, great acting by ALL cast. Loved it, highly recommend 🙌

In the movie, Gorbachev did not refer to him as a politician. He was talking about Valentin Trifonov who is technicallya politicianby ussr standards. He already knew who Robert Maxwell was and what his story was. The Maxwells were also the only foreigners there, Robert being the only one who was actually relevant or under any focus. And Trifonov was starting to fall under suspicion by other KGB agents by then and was trying to engage in shady dialog (for which he should have been a neutral party and not even present) right in front of Gorbachev. When Gorbachev asked to find out what they could on him, only Robert and Valentine were in focus. Not only that but he specifically said no when asked if he was talking about the foreigner. Valentine was the only one who was not a foreigner.
Of course, this is all just plot stuff; being ad the investigation never happened at all in real life.

@@val-tg6yh No. of course there are fictional freedoms (the Gorbachev storyline and the corrupt official as well as the KGB-Agent-translator are basically fictional) but a lot of things are true, for examples all the contracts and I guess the negotiation went somehow how the movie portrayed it.

@@HT-vd4in Yeah, very plausible how everybody in russia were a dark kgb spy like person who doesn't understand jokes (everybody expect those who were at US' side and were like fans of final countdown). Everything in russia being grey and robotic, totally different from the humanistic america, the land of freedom (the same land which made all countries in latin america become dictatorships). The movie doesn't differ from any piece of cold war propaganda. The movie was supposed to be about tetris, instead it became a pro US cold war pamphlet.
