    Could u please tell me the difference in size compared to Roland AX Synth old model and AX Edge ...size in height and width... is it bigger than Ax synth old model ?

    • @IbandUK
      @IbandUK  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi,
      according to Roland's website the Ax Synth (the one just before the Ax Edge) is 1142 x 266 x 87mm and 3.9kg,
      the Ax edge is 1252 x 291 x 85mm and 4.2kg
      so the Ax Edge is bigger than the Ax Synth... 110mm longer and 25mm wider

    Yep have to press hard on ribbon or get intermittent jumpiness so push it hard but not too hard or the pressure control modulates the sound (if set to do so). I like the pressure for modulation however and it seems easier to control ribbon pressure than the modulation rocker bar; expected bigger range of motion or throw distance from this modulation bar.

    • @IbandUK
      @IbandUK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      nuclearhythmics
      Hi, thanks for your feedback. Adding pressure sensitivity is probably why the touch ribbon doesn't work as well as the one on the Lucina (which doesn't have pressure sensitivity), so I guess it's a reasonable trade off.

      @@IbandUK actually I'm thinking I should've got a used AX-7 instead, 3 lbs lighter and less bulky but craigslist had a $600 offer I couldn't refuse and I've been happy so far but not completely happy. This thing is HUGE! I want to put a hood ornament on it.

      @@IbandUK Thanks for your kind reply and nice review. Maybe the Lucina would be more practical for me to control with the ribbon and more compact but I'll soon get used to the Edge ribbon pressure. I like the control bar except for the limited range of motion so it'd be nice if it could be set to control a narrower range.

      @@nuclearhythmics the AX-7 is the perfect size in the Roland keytar line. It just doesn’t have any on board sounds and is only a midi controller. IMO the most comfortable keytar is the newer Kork Rk-100s or 100s2. Which is a controller as well as havimg the Korg Micro-korg sound module in it as well.

      Hi, I'm a gamer too, so I get what you are saying. The Ax Edge is a great instrument for some cool on stage gigging action but not so great as a home synth. Obviously it depends what your aim is but if you want to start making music at home, there are more inspirational gear out there.
      Apps like bandlab (either on your phone or on your computer) are a good way to get started, as well as a good way to see how interested you are in music making, without spending any money at all.
      Basically what I'm saying is... I like my Ax Edge a lot and love using it but I dont use it to create music.

    If I'm a classical trained guitarist looking to get into keys, is this a good one? or should I got for 88 keys?

    • @IbandUK
      @IbandUK  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ca Mo
      Hi, it rather depends what you mean when you say you are looking to get into keys...
      88 key synths usually have weighted keys so are great for piano style playing.
      76 and 61 key synths usually have semi weighted keys so have a quicker action suitable for more synth style playing.
      Synths with 49 keys (or less) are more suitable to playing with just one hand rather than two so create a different style of playing.
      The Axe Edge has 49 keys and is certainly a good synth for one hand playing styles.
      Also... difference synths have difference sounds so make sure the synth you get has the sounds you want.

    I have one and it's not worth $1000. For that much you might as well get something like a hydrasynth or something similar. The one thing I don't like the most about this synth is it doesn't have a midi clock to sync its arpeggiator or it's beats with other devices like a drum machine or something like the behringer td3. I mean come on the behringer td3 is around $130 and it has a built in midi clock to sync with other devices. I think the Roland axe edge's price is way too high for what it is. If they would of put a midi clock in the axe edge it would be worth the money.

      @cyruss3813
      Ah, you see, the Ax Edge is a keytar... A specialist keyboard from the 70s, designed to be played along side real drummers and real guitarists, in a real band. So you are indeed correct that for your purpose, a modern synth, designed for electronic music genres, would be a much better choice 😀

    I bought the AX Edge for an 80's cover band. I would say it has some really great bread-and-butter sounds to do all the 80s covers, and a good set of lead sounds. But the app to program it is really a disappointment - at least in its iOS incarnation (which is what I tried). It works somehow, but it is full of quirks which you have to get used to. I wish Roland would release an editor/librarian for windows or osx which is much more usable.

    • @IbandUK

      backslash68
      Hi, great to hear from another Ax Edge owner. Yes its great for 80s sounds and has so much potential through the editor app. Since the update to the Android version of the editor app (and the need to update the Ax Edge firmware to use it), the app is better. A lot of windows computers don't support Bluetooth midi and Catalina on Macs is a nightmare, so I can understand Roland avoiding that path (the windows editor for the Juno Di is no better for being on pc). Maybe when there are more musicians with surface pros Roland will have to think again.

      The only difference between a regular keyboard and a keytar is, that on keytar you play only with your right hand and you use the left one to hold the neck and control the buttons and controllers on it. So it's basically just like playing a regular keyboard, but with only one hand. And of course instead of being put on a keyboard stand, you have it strapped on the shoulder.

      Hi,
      There are no drum kit midi patterns or a midi track sequencer on the Ax Edge, so you cannot set up a drum beat and/or bass line to play along to. It does however have a built in MP3 player so you can play along to backing tracks.
      You can layer 4 tones into each sound, so if you are happy to get busy with the Ax Edge Editor App (and you know about STEPs and LFOs) you can create your own melody type pattern tones. There are also a few melody type pattern tones already on the Ax Edge.

All the bluetooth Midi devices I have seen state they only support Mac/Ipad/Iphone but maybe someone is working on a Windows10 App that can add bluetooth Midi to Windows10 (and actually work).
