I typically do not do reviews but OMG!!! I have paid almost $200 for guitar samples to add to my Roland AX and cannot use them, so I got stuck and for the most part fxcked!!! Marc Barnes your samples are the bomb!!! I paid for them a few minutes, followed your instructions, and up and running with your sound on my Roland AX Edge now. Thank you so much. I hope this is the beginning for you and I of a great and $$$ relationship for more sounds. Thanks in a huge way from the state of Delaware, in the U.S.A.
stefan946 thanks so much for your comments and your recent purchase. Out of interest who sold you the other guitar sounds I’ve not heard of any others?
love the review Marc. Could you please explain quickly what your set up is to perform on stage wireless with the board and vocoder and how you send your outputs back to front of house? Thank you.
Hi James thanks for your comment. Setup on stage is very simple. Wireless transmitter plugged into the left output of Ax-edge. Receiver plugged into the mixing desk. Mixer send the sound to front of house, I have a monitor mix with auxiliary’s sending to my stage monitor. Mix for vocoder plugged directly into the mic input of the AX edge. I have a separate mic for backing vocals etc only use the mic into the AX for vocoder parts.
In terms of a keytar, the Roland is a far superior instrument and it’s not that much more expensive. Btw I’m a huge Korg fan in terms of their synths Wavestate etc
Hi Marc, what mic/headset are you using for vocoding? I've got a Shure WH20 mic/headset which is good quality but I'm having to use an adapter as it's xlr so it makes it very cumbersome. Great review by the way, I totally agree with everything you say, especially the editor aaarghhhhh!
Ah, that explains it, I don't think they make that one any more, just two versions, the XLR version (which I have) and the female 4 pin version. Thanks Marc, back to the drawing board I think!
Roland is shooting themselves in the foot, because underneath the terrible app there is a great synth engine that people just aren't using. I also feel you on the top screen. I can't understand engineers, since anyone who plays this keyboard for a few minutes would instantly notice they have to tilt the keyboard up to see the screen. Why is it pointed at the crowd? I will ask: Could you tell me what headset you are using for the Vocoder. Also, do you have any recommendations for stereo wireless output?
Hlecktro I use a line 6 relay G10 for wireless. Roland recommend the Boss WT20 but they took so long to get it to the shops I needed to get something different. The mic is a Shute wh20..
Thanks for reviewing after using it a whole year. Very helpful to see someone, who really uses his instrument for making music - and not only for a short" unboxing and first look"-video... I have my AX-Edge since July 2019 and i am still scratching only on the surface of the sound engine: so many possibilities and such a bad editor! I agree in 100% to all your pros 'n' cons. Roland please give us a better editing software. (And also sometimes a little firmware-update?) By the way: There's a Guy, called Momo Müller, who has made a bunch of editors for a lot of different synths (for example: jp-08remote.jimdo.com ). Maybe Momo would help us? But i think, unfortunately there aren't enough AX-Edge sold to justify that work... But now the new Roland Fantom also has the AX-Edge sound engine in it (i think). - Maybe this is the chance for us, to get a good editor?
Hardy O thanks for your comments. Yes I agree with your comments if you know someone who can make a new editor that would be amazing. I think the fantom has a completely new sound engine, the mc707 has a sound engine based on the AX-Edge engine.
@@Angelstarscotland Unfortunately i don't know Momo Müller personally. Just found his editors by reading gearnews... I'm sure, the new Fantom hasn't only one sound engine (for example, there is a full V-Piano engine in it, too). And the Fantom has a Preset-Bank full of Sounds with "AX" in their name... Therefore my guess: There could(!) be the AX-Edge engine in the Fantom. (Of course, only as one of several engines...) My hope: With all the (hopefully) sold new Fantoms, the basis is big enough for Momo Müller to create a software editor that can edit both, the Fantom and (maybe like one section "extracted" out of the Fantom-Editor) also the AX-Edge...
One piece of gear I have I can’t sell is my AX-EDGE it’s integral to my live shows. I’ve noticed quite a few people selling them because of the current situation.
Again it’s a typical Roland job. They can do some great things well they used to do some great things only they let it down by taking their eye off the ball with the editor. This is what the marketing department cause. Get it out there but leave the other important stuff.

Great review, I’ve just purchased one off these and your comments are really helpful
Glad I could help

Great video but cannot decide between this Roland n The Korg Microkorg S .. any advice ? Thank you 😊

It’s a WH20 but mine has a 1/4 inch Jack. I believe they have different versions of the WH20. Thanks for your comments,

Great recap. I can’t find other videos on this Keytar from you. Is it just two videos?

Thanks for your comment
Cool, how much money is the Roland keytar in your country?
The price hovers between £759-£850
Incredible video, very useful evaluation
Thanks

You would need 2 wireless for stereo.
Very informative and I'm thinking of getting one x.
Thanks for your comment, Yeah they are nice instruments for sure

Ainda já a possibilidade de comprar seus timbres do ax Edge?
Unfortunately not
Great review Marc. Amen to the editing but otherwise a great instrument with a good, full sound. Like button pressed 👍
Jack Spencer thanks so much Jack
Are there any convincing b3 sounds?
There’s some not bad ones

Raden Agung hope you enjoy it m8
Pleaseeee drop a video on how to make your own patches in editor!!!
Great Video🔥🔥🔥
I may well do that if enough people ask, leave it with me.
i would wanna own one of this....wanna sell it ????

Not sure what you're referring to but the Roland AX Edge is an amazing instrument.
Seriously, the editor is the worst. It takes like 20 minutes to load for me, and if you even minimize it, you have to start over..
Nick it certainly needs improvement
