A phantom factory distracted Allied aircraft from the Krupp factory | Velbert | Germany

In order to distract the Allied aircraft from the KRUPP works in Essen, a so-called "dummy installation" was built in 1940. This plant was a few kilometers away. This facility looked like the real factory at night. The facility was illuminated, smoke rose, an unmanned train made its rounds. Until 1943, this was used to distract enemy aircraft. Today only the control bunker of the plant remains. The effects of the dummy were controlled in this bunker.
