Nunzio performs El Cumbanchero, 1990

Charles Nunzio, the last of the "American Golden Age of the Accordion", plays his own fantastic arrangement at the world accordion competition in Kansas City in 1990. He was born in 1912 and stopped performing around 2002. He was the perfect "all in one" package: performer, composer, arranger, teacher, sales & repairs. Presently he is relaxing in a nursing home awaiting his next life.

Notice that he makes no attempt at artificially creating sounds alien to the original composition. His playing is all about rendition of a composition naturally and beautifully, not impressing the listeners with showy finger dexterity. I simply love the way he plays the accordion. Only a virtuoso can do that. Rest in Peace!
