Mike. Looking forward to watching the progress of the changes described. Certainly ambitious, and I hear the enthusiasm and excitement with this new project.
Hi Mike loving the new look topley dale and the ideas you have planned the GCR bridge looks amazing where l live in Sheffield where the old GCR met the midland railway where they both head to Sheffield before they split at woodburn junction to Sheffield and the woodhead line over the Wicker Arches to victoria station and then Manchester there is still a girder bridge still in place but no tracks Kev Beighton Parkway Sheffield model railway
Mike, a very ambitious plan that will deliver an amazing amount of running options, so much more exciting than just a loop, i am sure you can pull it off, very enjoyable video, All the best.
What a great episode Mike, loved all the detail and planning, yes gradients can be challenging but with that much stock multi level is the only way to go with a fixed layout. Best wishes
Certainly a massive rebuild. Very impressive. Any thoughts on having a canal in your multilayered section? You could build the canal in an aqueduct and have the lower level line run under it.
Very ambitious Mike, loving it. Following your progress with keen interest. I also have a number of the kits from KMW shop which Im incorporating into my new layout.
Great update, thanks for sharing, looking forward to seeing it grow Re the bridge(s) I'd have it as two different bridges, Birdcage towards rear then a different bridge that's newer towards the front. Kinda like it was added as the railway grew Is this going to be portable or just for your home pleasure? (And no doubt as test bed for work!!)
This will be a home based layout, its going to be too complex to be portable. We like the idea of different bridges to suggest growth of the railway too.
Great progress and lots of exciting things to come. For the river bridge scene if you are using the GCR bridge it would be better to have it in the middle as it would remove the 'dog leg' between it and the viaduct over bridge. Have fun with the gradients! Test test and test again.
Wow, there's some extensive plans right there. Out of interest, has the layout always been in the same location? I think most of us are guilty of running a layout around the walls of a room to maximise the size however it looks like you haven't done this and the ability to easily access all areas and sides of the layout offer a clear advantage to building. Fantastic vision for what can be achieved and really looking forward to watchnig the progress to the new final plan.
Its moved to a new location now and part of the set up consideration was access. In its previous form with the storage yard against a wall it wasn't the easiest to manage, but by leaving a gap along the back (about 2ft) it means you can duck under the scenic area to access the rear of the layout for cleaning, maintenance or train changes. Glad you enjoyed the latest video.
Great to see Topley Dale being resurrected. It certainly has a different feel to the previous version. Looking forward to following your progress. Like a previous comment, not sure about a gradient on a viaduct, but then someone may reference a location or else rule one applies. Similarly a level crossing at a tunnel entrance. That seems more odd than the viaduct.
Thanks for the feedback. The level crossing is quite unlikely at the location chosen and there is a high chance it won't be added in for that very reason.
Good luck Mike. I’ve just started my own layout, the first in 36 years! One big problem that maybe you could ask Ellis Clarke and all the manufacturers. I want to model WCML circa 1980-84 with all the new A/Cs on offer and now OHLE should be easy but impossible to run a train! No MK2 TSO’s in blue grey, Hornby or Bachmann, No MK3a’s TSO’s, Oxford Rail. No Bachmann MK1 SO. Bearing in mind they pulled 9-10 coach trains then and these coaches were ubiquitous, what is the game? Why can’t you buy a pro typical train formation? Sorry but it’s crazy, multi-packs for second class coaches when released please! I couldn’t pre-order as I didn’t know when I could build a layout again. Now I have one but no trains!
The Class 67 on the depot is a 'full-fat' Hornby version which has the full die-cast chassis, directional lighting, central motor and flywheels etc. The alternative is the RailRoad version which is the ex-Lima model which we don't think has lights and has a more basic chassis but with an updated motor in Hornby's ownership.
With the sweeping curve around the front, it would look better with a camber on it, as it is missing the slight lean present on the real thing. Once incorporated into a layout, its so obvious when its not present.
Ditto, thanks for the update it sounds great..... does British Rail do viaducts on an incline?? I would of thought there would of been grade down, cutting and flat track across the viaduct and then further grade. British Rail is notorious for being flat because of pulling issues. But you could hide some grade in the cuttings. Just saying.
@@NewJunction Give him time, by the end of the month there will be a heritage line, narrow gauge railway, garden center mini-railway in T or Z and a fully functional canal with working locks. Oh and a Faller car system.

Very impressive, going to be an amazing layout
Great to see things progressing along. Looking forward to watching this build move forwards. 👌

Thanks for the update, when you said you are a busy chap you certainly meant it! Looking forward to seeing the progress 👍🏻
The multi bridge scene could be pretty iconic if you get the composition right. Good luck! Plenty ambitious
Great update, Mike. I'm interested in how this all develops and comes together.

Exciting times ahead thankyou for the tips and video
You are making some excellent progress Mike. 👍
Bridges.... I need bridges ...
Some lovely running shots in this one, Mike - splendid!
the 37 on the MOD train was particularly nice 😊
Mike cant wait to see this developing

It's looking good and you certainly like to keep busy. Hopefully you will encourage me to crack on with little 12ft x 1.5ft shelf layout
Great update, thanks for sharing, looking forward to seeing it grow

Just thinking about your plans made my head hurt. Complicated or what! Good luck with it. I'm looking forward to seeing it take shape.

Mike, is your class 67 a heavily updated Hornby version? Don't think they normally have working lights?
The Class 67 on the depot is a 'full-fat' Hornby version which has the full die-cast chassis, directional lighting, central motor and flywheels etc. The alternative is the RailRoad version which is the ex-Lima model which we don't think has lights and has a more basic chassis but with an updated motor in Hornby's ownership.
@@hornbymag Ah, that explains it, wasn't aware a railways version existed! Thanks for that.
Is it wrong that I’m more interested in the vehicle behind you Mike? 🤔🙂
Why not have the road go across the level crossing on the level lines then go up and over the gradient lines on a bridge?
With the sweeping curve around the front, it would look better with a camber on it, as it is missing the slight lean present on the real thing. Once incorporated into a layout, its so obvious when its not present.
Funnily enough, its on the list for the curves!

There are a few examples of graded viaducts, there’s one on the wcml near rugby I think
Years of work.
It will keep Mike busy!
Have you got a class 58 in heijen and i got two class 58 in 00 gauge in heijen
There is one lurking somewhere on shed! 58038 in Mainline blue.
The tankers at 15:43, which company produced these? I've been looking everywhere for some
In middle of screen? Dapol Silver Bullets (those ones are pre-weathered).
Not as ambitious as normal... you feeling okay? 😂😂😂
