The lady is Teresa WANG , Sensei. . The man is Shihan Paul Lee,, President of Aikido [in Taiwan] He shows beautiful round spiral aikido, wonderful flowing aikido.
The old man, Li Qinnan (Paul Lee) has passed away already, now Sensei Wang (Wang Xiujuan) is the chief of that organization. And what he is doing is the way he adopted some Taiji (Taichi) to Aikido. Gotta admit that I am going to check it out next month ( I live in Taipei), but she teaches at 7 a.m....
I think this demo is about showing spiral movement, one of the basics, its not about visible power and smashing uke..this is demonstration of spiral movement...this sensei is moving from the center u can see her stability...Like it!
Like my 6tg dan Aikido sensei always says, Aikido does not teach you how strike or kick but rather how to move fluidly and without effort. It's all about saving your energy and finding that special spot that sets opponent off balance.
There's a really odd lack of connection with uke, and movements that are clearly derived out of perception that in Aikido the nage (thrower) moves in a circular fashion. In applicable/mechanically-sound Aikido, the nage mostly moves in straight lines and does sharp, quick 180 turns, while the uke (attacker) can be found moving in circular/spiral fashion.
It must be assumed that you didn't watch the video in its entirety. Past about 50 seconds, the techniques performed with an uke are at normal Aikido speed. But even if the nage had been performing them at a snail's pace, we should reserve judgment about how slow or fast Aikido ought to be performed. I've seen dozens of different instructors, strong ones, supple ones, aggressive, passive, fast, slow, moderate. Who are we to judge the Aikido of others?
Exactly. Yes, a larger guy against a small guy may have some advantages ( strength, maybe height) But there are advantages to small to guy as well, especially using Aikido. All those muscles and brolic strength just gives the small guy more ammo to use against him. - Practices Kali and Aikido
Those spiral movements I saw them in Bruno Gonzalez sensei (I´m not saying they are the same anyway) and I liked them. You need to have a good balance and it´s good the dinamic in which you are always.
I apologize for mis-reading your comment. However, the essence of what I mean still stands. If people are enjoying their Aikido training, what is gained by your judgment of them being too showy or not? This appears to be a demonstration in any case. Finally, it seems strange to me that an Aikidoka would call another one a dumb ass. I don't take offense because through my training I've come to realize the futility of being rude and aggressive towards others. So, I wish you good training.
apology accepted. my sensai trained me in aikido mainly to learn the budo of its ways. and it is the way of the warrior in which i learned the most. ive gotten my ass kicked a few times because the fight isnt always worth it. i believe it stated (me and my sensai translated from japanese so a lot of what i learned was from illustrations) but a fight is only worth it to protect others, your family, and those that cannot protect them self...some how you are not part of that but thats what i like.
@hgamer Surely Aikido has kata's, but often they're not as static and they are often applied to a broader application in training forms such as Jiju Waza and Randori. A kata is just to train the technique in all its technical aspects. A, say, Jiju Waza would learn you how to apply the principles inherited in the technique and use them in a more realistic way. Hope that helps. PM me if you want more detail/explanation.
Beg to differ... it's good for both, or it would not be true unto itself. But think what you like. We'll just follow the Founder's instruction and not worry about what others say, just practice our Aikido.
whats funny is i can do all of those technices (training for 7 years) and its not ment to hurt the attacker or break any bones its more redirecting the kinnetic energy (Ki) of the attacker to your advantage
@hgamer oh, yeah...never have sweat SO hard than when doing basic movements and other kata for an entire class...solo techniques with weapons, can go on for hours. especially when Sensei is asking for really deep stances and strong movements
i know a girl who did chi gong for many years which has only a partial hard martial art style to it and she got attacked in the street in italy Quote i dont really know what happened but one guy was on the street one guy runnin away and i had another by the throat thus remember to get something into muscle memory it must be done 2000 times.might as well make it perfect.then go hard
You original comment was "This is not good." This could refer to a lot of things. If, as you say now, Aikido is good for the soul, then it is good. If you mean that Aikido is not effective as a defense against an aggressor (which I don't agree with), then it may be called "not good". I don't really wish to get into a long discussion right now about the efficacy of Aikido in terms of self-defense. My original point stands: judgment about an art does little to benefit all involved.
What is not good is judging another organization's Aikido. Removing the sense of good versus bad will only serve to give you more peace. Plus, it is rude to say things like this in general. I don't practice with these folks or in this style, but have come to a place in my training that allows me the freedom from silly judgments about the way other people do Aikido. If they are enjoying their training, what does it matter how they do it?
Aikido by itself probably isnt going to work so hot on anyone who's taken a few BJJ classes. Or a good wrestler. Altho guys like Roy Dean have taken Aikido and paired some of its techniques with BJJ. Probably a worthy tool in some contexts, when used properly in conjunction with more effective martial arts.
These TH-cam Aikido discussions are so pointless. OF COURSE going to some Aikido class once a week does not turn any office warrior into some kind of invicible superhuman. But neither would going to a boxing gym once a week. For those who want to slug it out with "well trained" attackers, well, they will have to dedicate their life to a full-time MMA regiment. Aikido is a fun and useful exercise with a lot of benefits. What is wrong about that. Why cant you people leave well enough alone?
Consciousness is not a reducible phenomena. Neurophysiology is still in its infancy, comparatively speaking. Our understanding of emotions and decision-making is largely behavioral psychology paired with a rough conceptualization of the roles of certain hormones. We still don't understand sleep, memory, willpower, or dreams, let alone the Mind-Brain connection. Consciousness is still largely in the realm of metaphysics, not empirical science. So I must disagree.
aikido is a solid principle against untrained grunts,i have seen someone get his fingers broken in application.Never trained it because it is UTTER NONSENSE against a well trained guy that studied modern striking and grappling techniques. At first as mythical overrated martial arts at 60's 70's we had karate, then came aikido then came wing chun.True that every art gives something to its practicioner but try catching my fist and i'ma fuck you up,it is common sense
No, I'm not impressed. Do not trick yourself by training with weak and unintentional attacks. Train with real attacks and a sense of danger and you will get a strong technique.
This is an awesome style of aikido that they're doing! So much more emphasis on blending. I love it.

absolutely beautiful. i love it.
her movements looks graceful yet powerfull
putting some kung fu touch as the old man does definitely makes the aikido more beautiful!
Aikido is a close body contact art, this is a set back but it is great when defence is needed at close range

@FearThisChannel appreciate the response

Right! I saw in Bruno Sensei too

all that spiraling just makes you dizzy. its not the aikido i would chose to do.
@hgamer oh, yeah...never have sweat SO hard than when doing basic movements and other kata for an entire class...solo techniques with weapons, can go on for hours.
especially when Sensei is asking for really deep stances and strong movements
nicely say'd ^^
i think people misunderstood your comment...
interesting but who is the master ? the video is in the begining : we are waiting for the end
I would never shake hands with them

@sehnsucht77 thanks for the answer
I am sorry, is this a form of dancing or martial arts?

@hgamer What do you mean by "forms"?
@FearThisChannel like how karate has kata's

LOL keep on believing that
you know, all those ignorant people that talk about aikido without having a clue of what is it really...
Why are you even commenting, it's not the subject of the video
Why does it matter if he's Chinese, Japanese or black? What's that got to do with anything?
Guys, who is that old Sensei at the end? I am interested to see him in action with an uke.
Paul Lee(from Taiwan )
i have a question, are there forms in aikido?
nice mikkel
COMO SE LLAMA LA MAESTRA DE LA RESPIRACIÓN CONCENTRADA ?? :)
MUY BUEN VIDEO. :)
Por telefono
เกิดประโยชน์อะไร ในเมื่อไม่เคยใช้ได้อย่างที่แสดง
Paul Lee was gone a long time age, none his students are good at this technique.
chinese aikido? maybe it s ai chi do, the old man moves like tai chi moves or maybe when aikidoka becomes old it becomes tai chi do lol
These TH-cam Aikido discussions are so pointless. OF COURSE going to some Aikido class once a week does not turn any office warrior into some kind of invicible superhuman. But neither would going to a boxing gym once a week.

to bad ... sorry to say, but i dont think there was one technique i would have to take Ukemi for... not a single one was executed in a good way....

this is aikido: watch?v=bAhBPa6-CJ4
1:43 hehe
@patrik79a I agree. Over compliant uke's make for crap demo's and this was a crap demo. Once again, Aikido made to look silly by bad form.
solo es tai sabaki
No, I'm not impressed. Do not trick yourself by training with weak and unintentional attacks. Train with real attacks and a sense of danger and you will get a strong technique.
That doesn't make any sense.
this is way too much show, even for aikido
This video excerpt is really poor, gives Aikido a bad name. Why not simply market it like Tai Chi?
watch this crap and watch Moriteru Ueshiba
....another ridiculous aikido demo.....sigh.
Another ridiculus comment !
Jajajaja otro saco de weas que comenta lo que no entiende
Very nice.
